I'd like it if it wasn't flowery, and if it was longer. And grey, with big pockets. Oh, and some sleeves. And linen. Then I'd love it and swish and swash in the playground with my hands in my vast pockets. I'd wear it with Blundstone boots and hand knitted red socks. I might put a little cute puppy on the pocket too, just for that extra touch of glamour and elegance.

Unfortunately no such dress exists so I'll have to wait for DD to move on from making Barry dresses to making me dresses.

Why are some people getting wound up about a SRD? It's funny, I like that it's like the old days and happens so infrequently these days. I am 92 though.

FaFoutis · 02/04/2019 12:20

I'd buy that grey linen dress Rabbits, it sounds perfect.

Ivegotthree · 02/04/2019 12:29

I pass a primary school on my way to work where this year's School Run Dress, and last year's, come to think of it, is pyjama bottoms, a fleece and a fag clamped in mouth.

My school run dress is my work clothes.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/04/2019 12:30

Out of interest, Rabbits, what would the socks be knitted out of? I like knitting socks but they are all wool and a bit sweaty to wear in the summer.

Elllllle · 02/04/2019 12:31

Love the term inverted snobbery, even if I'm not exactly sure what it means Grin

RabbitseatDogs · 02/04/2019 12:32

FaFoitis TK Max had about 8,700,45 million a few years ago but this year it's all flouncy Mary affairs.

It should look like this but not as shit.

Have to say, of everything, I'm most appalled about the school run fags that keep being mentioned. (1) Revolting and (2) The children!

RabbitseatDogs · 02/04/2019 12:34

TheCountess I don't know. I did have a lovely alpaca pair once that were lovely in the summer but I shrunk them to the size of a baby frog. I'd love to be able to knit socks but it all looks so complicated. Do they take you long?

PinkieTuscadero · 02/04/2019 12:34

Don't worry, the children are offered a drag too.

Elllllle · 02/04/2019 12:38

Ahhh Paul that might be it! Thank you! It doesn't look overly long but I could crouch down. I'm going to look at Seasalt now .....

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 02/04/2019 12:56

Rabbits I have got almost that exact dress, except that it's black and doesn't have sleeves. It is now entering it's 21st year and I still love it as much as I did when I was a teenager. It's SO comfortable, and because it's black, it doesn't show sweat marks Grin

Palominoo · 02/04/2019 13:03

For handmade socks, this is an easy crochet pattern

ATailofTwoKitties · 02/04/2019 13:10

wait for DD to move on from making Barry dresses

Does Barry appreciate them, though?

3out · 02/04/2019 13:15

I would absolutely freeze if that was my school run dress.
If I lived somewhere where the sun came out, the wind ceased and the rain only fell at night then I’d maybe try it on, but the model looks very tall, so I’m not sure I’d suit it.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 02/04/2019 13:17

On the subject of Bon Marche...a jumpsuit was in this month's Good Housekeeping and I actually googled to buy but didn't realise about the sizing. I'm 33! I think they're taking a new direction...

Don't hate the dress nor love it.

I've only been here about 4 years but understand perfectly what the shorthand SRD is saying. And it's nothing to do with 'sad' women and their 'sad' lives who have nothing better to do than dress up for the school run.

SwappitySwap · 02/04/2019 13:18

I have your dress Rabbits (well a version, slightly shorter and with short sleeves) in fairly heavy chambray. Ideal summer dress. School run or no.

Has the Bollock stopped squeaking yet?

Ellapaella · 02/04/2019 13:23

I have that dress as well @RabbitseatDogs
Mine is from Seasalt but a few years old now. Mines a dark blue, almost denim looking.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 13:30

Still got those popping veins Paul, all that disproportionate rage & namecalling

FaFoutis · 02/04/2019 13:41

Thanks Paul. I'll have a look. I prefer the sleeves and shape of Rabbit's design though.
I have an ancient one like that, it is knackered but I still wear it. I might have got it from TK Maxx.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 02/04/2019 14:00

It’s the sort of dress Toast used to do well before they went a bit maiden aunt attic offerings.

Oska and other Lagenlook brands are probably worth a look for that style.

FindPrimeLorca · 02/04/2019 14:12

Here’s my basic black Jigsaw SRD - still bizarrely in stock after almost 2 years. I think I may have paid less for it.
www.jigsaw-online.com/product/silk-trim-deep-v-back-dress/J33658_BK000
Hits most of the required elements except that a) silk trim ideally needs ironing after washing (it says hand wash only but obviously that’s crazy talk and machine wash on delicate is fine) b) doesn’t completely pass the underwear test because it wouldn’t work with a racer back sports bra.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 02/04/2019 14:15

Toast? Possibly a tad Cersei walk of shame... 😁

HOwever I am drawn to these beauties -school run playsuit...

Why does everyone have my dress? What with that and Brexit I'm not sure I can cope!

I've just been down a rabbit hole of lines dresses ..... I've found the almost perfect one but it's £££££ and in the land of Mr Trump.

Thanks Palomino but I'm as accomplished at crochet as a pig mending a watch. I might take one more stab at it though. I imagine myself a crocheter (and a millionaire) but the sad reality is that I'm a poor, non crochet person.
