It was a great day out for me. DH and DS were quite totally stunned that anyone would meet Internet chums in real life, but apart from not knowing who to approach in the foyer of the V&A, it rather felt like meeting correspondent colleagues with very close shared interests.
And the exhibition was stunning. Of course the clothes were spectacular, as was the staging and the lighting. The toiles were as perfect as the couture dresses. (How, and where, does anyone learn to sew so exquisitely?)
The surprise for me was that I had expected to like/dislike different eras of Dior, and while I had thought Maria Grazia Chiuri a surprising choice to head the house, I loved how elaborate her detailing was, while the designs appeared so subtle. The jardin fleuri dress, with the feather flowers............. wow!
After John Galliano, whose designs I liked much more than I appreciated when they were first shown I felt it was a more coherent historical narrative than I expected. The element I loved especially were the tiny doll-sized replicas of outfits in the spectrum phase of colours and accessories.
On a fine afternoon, it was a treat and a half to stroll back down the King's Road to help Red decide on her preference in trench coats, admire Elle's choice of coat and wonder how Bo could dismiss the Isabel Marant jacket so finally and quickly. Me, I couldn't get my feet through the ankles of the trousers I tried, so clearly not my day to shop! Though I might have a COS basket with Flo's culotte jumpsuit in it (as it wasn't in store), I haven't pressed buy yet. Sorry for the magnum opus!
