Hope things get better with the rash Bani. I've left my dermatologist stumped with a couple of mysteries in the past and had to treat with some scary medicine that pharmacologist really didn't want to make because of all the fumes Shock worked a treat though after attempting to treat with the more conventional stuff, cortisol creams never did a thing for me.

alldressed, I personally wouldn't bother changing for dinner don't know if tights are a London thing but to me they do tend to feel out of place in spring and it's quite easy to feel out of synch in Paris if you're not dressing seasonally. It'll be around 20 degrees this weekend (with the occasional bit of rain) and warm temps always feel higher in Paris due to its geography. Smart layers remain my advice, a jacket you can stick in a bag, etc. Sorry, not a fan of the khaki jacket either, feels more autumn to me and I'm not sure the material is up for the weather. Trousers look promising but probably not the best choice if it rains properly.

I'm not a fan of destination dressing to fit in either, Red, but weather usually does dictate a slight adjustment. And as much as I hate it, levels of modesty come into it too, my rule of thumb tends to be I'd never show more skin than the locals but don't necessarily dress down to that either by default but subconsciously you adjust gradually anyhow if you're somewhere long enough.

Rash update: feels like it's "halted" now anyway and isn't spreading. Bought La Roche Pisay Lipikar lotion yesterday which feels so nice and cool and I do think the rash looks a little paler which I'm attributing to the niacinamide, an ingredient I am convinced does wonders for me and placebo is, after all, also an effect. ;) Since it looks better I had mr Bani document my flesh through photos this morning so I can show the fecking doctors if it suddenly clears up. Atm it's hard to see how I won't be stuck with pigmentation changes at the very least and end up looking like a leopard... Current style inspiration: modest dressing.

botemp · 13/05/2019 09:56

Is 'modest leopard' the new 'rich bitch bohemian' WinkGrin

Do you use a cleansing oil rather than soap/shower gel for the body already? That should help a bit too.

Completely forgot to post what I initially came to post, Loïc Prigent posted another behind the scenes mini documentary, this time the Chanel resort show. There have been a few others the last few weeks but they weren't as interesting, the Chanel was quite touching in the details with a nod to KL. Have to admit, I'm more interested in what Virginie seems to be wearing throughout than the models Blush

Don't know about the leopard bit because no-one will know that the modest bit if because of the leopard bit haha.

I haven't bought any cleansing oil (yet) but I might. I've been focusing my washing on pits and bits and avoiding the skin that's most sore, just kept up the moisturising. Did have a moment there where I put oats in a muslin bag and washed with that.

Floisme · 13/05/2019 11:51

Oh bani you poor thing Flowers A family member is prone to itchy rashes and they're convinced it's linked to diet, particularly eggs, nuts and seeds / berries. That's never been medically confirmed and may bear no relation to your condition but I'm just throwing it out there. I get red, itchy flare ups on my face if I wander too far from a very limited list of skin products and when it's really bad, I use nothing but olive oil for cleansing and moisturising. (The light stuff doesn't have the salad bowl smell.)

alldressed I quite like that khaki jacket but I'd wear it with the wide leg trousers, not the jeans. My ex boss was plus size, always looked great and one of my favourite outfits of hers was a long, straight tunic (but not thigh length, to the knees and sometimes longer) over trousers - narrow leg as wide legs weren't in fashion at the time. She wore simple, streamlined shapes but vibrant colours.

Catherine I love that instagram pic. It's exactly how I look inside my head although the camera disagrees Grin

And bo thanks for the Chanel link. Only watched the first few minutes so far but I love some of the travel motifs, like the wrought iron look lace. And I'm thrilled to see Virginie in double denim.

quirkychick · 13/05/2019 16:08

I hope your rash clears up soon, bani Flowers.

I did a charity shop run this morning and got a white, stripey TMLewin shirt for £8. My old stripey shirt is quite thin and needs mending again, this one is less oversize and more fitted. I'm thinking it will look good with jeans, denim skirt or looser trousers.

banivani · 13/05/2019 19:44

No big change in rash.

But but but - my daughter who works in accessories have me a scarf she got at her companies sample sale for only about 3 or 4 Euro and it’s lovely. Perfect colours for olive green, all the ones mentioned! It’ll be on the market in the autumn so for ONCE I’m ahead of the curve haha. I took a photo of coat with new scarf (red, orange, blue etc), the grey scarf, and the blue toned one that I also got from my daughter (same company) that I wasn’t feeling with the olive but maybe I was wrong?. The only thing I’d fault it is that I’d like something less warm but it’s lovely.

Those are all lovely bani. Sorry the rash hasn't disappeared but it will go.

Interior design derail. Everything except the sink and the worktop was delivered today. The painters have got a coat of paint everywhere except the utility. There are boxes everywhere I look. I am looking at it and worrying that it isn't as good as it looked in my head. Have I gone too pale being the main question. I keep telling DH that colour can always be put back in but in a very light south-oriented room, the colour is easily bleached out. The decor touches a biplane propeller and some pictures will go up at the end. I have played safe, because the layout is very similar (it worked well for my style of cooking and our lifestyle).

Redandblue11 · 13/05/2019 20:07

Good news on scarf and shirt fronts Bani and quirky

I personally prefer the third scarf. The first one is lovely too but I see it as more of an autumn one nothing stops you to wear it as is still nice. To be honest the grey is ok but just ok imo.

Redandblue11 · 13/05/2019 20:12

I tried these mule sandals today and flat slingbacks. The first ones impossible to walk on , the second ones ok to walk shortish distances and looked nice I thought.
I was just trying in Jigsaw while making time for train , no real intent to buy remained that way

Gorgeous, bani, the orangey one looks more autumnal, I think. The light grey is nice, but the last one looks really lovely, especially for spring. I might be biased as I was wearing an old anthropologie scarf in blues (including klein blue), ecru and blush today.

quirkychick · 13/05/2019 20:21

Cross Post with red.

timeisnotaline · 13/05/2019 22:33

The orangey scarf definitely looks more autumnal but is my favourite! Not helping.
red I’m glad you don’t like the shoes, I walk past those mules daily and think they do look quite nice , now I don’t have to go in Grin. I don’t like the slingbacks sorry, some heels (or lack) make the shoe look like the heel is lower as opposed to flat and I think the volume change at the heel is doing that.
Glad you’ve found something alldressed, changing for dinner is too hard. Nice if you can but you don’t want to plan to have to get back to hotel and change.

timeisnotaline · 13/05/2019 22:35

Back to spring and pink- I would wear this www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/dresses/product.ruffled-chiffon-dress-pink.0750143001.html

And the (moderately) ubiquitous kaftan for flo www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/dresses/product.kaftan-dress-pink.0641960004.html
Grin

Floisme · 14/05/2019 07:26

Hey is that my kaftan dress in pink? Wow I nearly didn't recognise it!

Whatever would would Karl say?

ToEllewithIt · 14/05/2019 08:36

Red I agree with time on the slingbacks - they're too covered up at the front to be that open at the back. If only the V were lower.. I'm jealous of your dainty feet though!

Another vote for scarf 1 or 3, it's funny how 2 doesn't do the coat justice at all. The nice thing about printed scarves is that you can arrange them so that your best colour is closest to your face.

Wow xing your project is flying along

bani sorry I missed that you has a rash: I hope it's not too uncomfortable and that they mange to get to the bottom of it.

Enjoy your trip alldressedup - lucky you! I agree that the second and third look are good and the first jacket is a good idea, just needs to be a bit plainer and maybe a better fabric. Hope you have a wonderful time.

I'm very un-French today in a floral dress and blazer.

timeisnotaline · 14/05/2019 09:14

Advice please! Here is one of my Sandro skirts (the one I wear less as it’s shorter and flippier). It’s navy so I’m wearing nude stockings. Any other suggestions apart from bare legs? (With my psoriasis and crocodile skin I just don’t feel like bare legs at the office much). I don’t particularly like these nude stockings either, they’re a bit thick and dull. Will also take any other styling suggestions at all for the skirt, I just wear the same couple of tops with it. This one is a silk blouse bought in Vietnam from a dressmaker who studied in France :)

Hello! I've really enjoyed following these threads from the shadows and I'm hoping I can call on your wisdom for some advice.

I have a wedding coming up for which I've bought the attached dress. I need a jacket/light coat to go over it as I have nothing suitable. I could do with a spring jacket anyway and don't have much budget so I'd really like something versatile, e.g. I can picture a white oversized blazer with the dress, but that's too impractical for further use. But I'm drawing a blank on what else could work - not good at formal dressing! Any ideas much appreciated. For context, I buy most new stuff from the H&M empire (Cos, Weekday, Other Stories mainly) and wedding will be fairly fashion-y.

quirkychick · 14/05/2019 10:10

I like your top and skirt, time . Would it also work with something neater or more fitted to offset the flippiness? I'm probably no help at all on the bare legs thing as I only go bare legged in full hot summer (I had a dvt in one pg). I have some nude micronet holdups, that are very barely there or I use the airbrush legs if I do go bare.

Gorgeous dress, trolley. Would a longer line, but slim fitting jacket go? If not white, a lighter neutral?

I'm definitely feeling very French today in straight, raw hem jeans, new (to me) stripey white shirt and red lipstick Smile.

banivani · 14/05/2019 12:29

Red I quite like the pointy ones tbh - that is, I'm not a super fan of pointy toes on the whole but I think the shoes look good on you. The others feel a little empty/bare/missing something, more like slippers (granted, that's the point, but I wasn't feeling it). But we're talking micro-nuances.

Thank you for feedback on scarves - both orange and blue ones are Beck Sondergaard. Also they're pure wool, so a little wrong for current climate. I've been wearing the blue one all winter Grin so am very happy with the other one, in different colour scheme. I agree, the grey scarf is just "okay", but it was a good thing to play with with the olive. I'm going to keep a look out for something in blue tones in a lighter fabric after all the tips upthread, thank you! I still need something like that.

Time am looking forward to any ideas on how to cover legs lightly - I have massive problems with this too.

Trolley I'm still into kimonos and kaftans so I'm seeing a vintage kimono/haori ....

XingMing · 14/05/2019 12:51

Bani, I have an ancient eau de nil silk chiffon big stole-scarf with huge spots (very early Perry Ellis) which would look amazing with that coat (hence I suggested the colour). I haven't worn it in forever so if you'd like to give it a whirl, feel free to PM me. I can probably find it for a picture.

Floisme · 14/05/2019 13:40

time I’ll probably be expelled from Style & Beauty for admitting this but, if I wear a skirt at this time of year (not very often) I dig out the footless tights. Not leggings (too heavy and I’m not keen on the seams but I think f/less tights are a bit less formal and they draw the eye to your ankles rather than your tights if that makes sense.

Have you tried that skirt with something plain/casual like a T shirt and denim jacket, or one if those utility jackets (‘cargo jackets’ the last time around) and plimsolls? Or if you need something a bit smarter, a long, oversized blazer?

Floisme · 14/05/2019 13:48

Trolley that’s such a nice dress, I’m struggling to think of any cover up that won’t, well cover it up. I can picture an oversized blazer (not sure about colour) draped nonchalantly over your shoulders but in reality it’s just going to fall off isn’t it? Or I’m wondering about a big wrap thingy which may sound a bit 2005-pashmina but wedding style is often more classic and the dress is very modern so I think you’d get away with it.

But do you have to wear it with anything if it’s a summer wedding or is it in a field in the Orkneys or something?
