Previous thread

Let's keep criticism to the clothes rather than the women please...

I also have a blazer like that in black. But my lined cuffs are polka dots. It's great for business travel because with the cuffs unrolled and with smart trousers, it looks professional, but roll the cuffs and put on jeans and a t-shirt, and you have a casual look.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/02/2019 13:25

Meghan's blazer is this one by Alice & Olivia. Not Zara but not couture prices either!

Years ago I worked with a Syrian guy who said that if you visited the Middle East and wanted respect as some sort of hotshot you needed to look the part, which especially included nice nails and hands. A bit like Russia - there was a thread recently where a woman was travelling to Ukraine for work and got the advice to glam up because normal British formal workwear would be frumpy So the choice of the sussexes to be so casual is a little interesting. They do, maybe, risk coming off as disrespectful. At the same time , it’s also a bit of a marker that you consider your status so high as to be beyond the conventions of mere mortals (also a very British/English sentiment haha). But I bet their nails and hands are beyond reproach ;) and the mothers of the children in the video can’t fault the reception the children got ❤️

Thanks for new thread Queen
I think Meghan is nailing it with her clothes this trip. As a pp said Meghan has been taking our advice!

mrscampbellblackagain · 24/02/2019 14:13

The red looked great but I am not a fan of those jackets with roll up sleeves with 'jazzy' linings.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/02/2019 14:41

I felt a bit inspired by Meghan's look last night and happened to pass a charity shop earlier and spotted a green cape. I tried it on and thought it looked a bit Marklesque so was umming and ahhing about getting it when DP took one look and said "looks like something Theresa May would wear"! It immediately went back on the rack!

Oh Queen Grin

I hope you gave him the silent treatment

certainlymerry · 24/02/2019 17:06

i am another one who thinks both of them look very dressed down, particularly Harry. It just seems odd. Skinny jeans seem a very strange choice in a Muslim country.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/02/2019 17:10

It's Morocco, not Saudi Arabia. Skinny jeans with a long line top, like what Meghan wore, are fine.

Reading reports I think she really is the brains of the outfit. She spoke French whilst he said he didn't have a word of it (money well spent at Eton, then...) and when he remarked on how a lot of the kids essays were about how their fathers wanted this or that, she answered "Yes the paternal narrative is strong here".

Shes really very quick minded. Everything he said sounded like a off the cuff quip, everything she said sounded like a perfect encouraging feminist soundbite.

They are such an odd pair. Maybe he's got hidden intellectual depths but I've always gotten the impression he's basically Tim Nice But Dim.

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 17:28

Harry was never intended to attend Eton and Charles and Di had been pointed to less academically rigorous but still aristocratic schools.

Her death just before that choice should have been made meant Eton made an allowance for him and it was felt in the best interests of both to keep them together

Harry didn't thrive there, didn't like it and is on record as saying so

Whether he would have had a good secondary experience anywhere considering the circumstance is another consideration.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/02/2019 17:31

I think he's like Diana, who was no great intellectual but had emotional intelligence and was good at connecting with people. He's not academic, that's for sure but he's set up some very good initiatives like Sentebale and Invictus, which I don't think he'd do if he was your typical TNBD type.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 24/02/2019 17:33

He also seems content to let Meghan shine and come across as more accomplished and there's still a lot of men who wouldn't be happy with that.

Rhubarbisevil · 24/02/2019 17:33

I think they’re a lovely couple and the only reason why he’s looking miserable is because people are being vile to the woman he loves.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 24/02/2019 17:35

Prince Harry is not a natural academic, he's made no secret of that and the fact he disliked Eton. He also had a fairly traumatic experience about the time he started there, I can see why his school days weren't the best and didn't leave him with the ability to speak French. But I don't think he comes across as dim at all. And I love a man who loves an intelligent woman.

I was watching a documentary about the start of the Channel Tunnel the other day and the Queen was giving a speech in French, very impressed.

ElspethFlashman · 24/02/2019 17:35

I still think it's embarrassing that he doesn't have a word of French. The Queen is fluent and I'm fairly sure Charles is too, and William made a speech in French in Canada.

All Harry seems to have done in school is paint, tbh. And there was a whole pile of contraversy over that at the time cos it was rumoured his Art teacher helped way too much with his piece for his exams.

I'm sure he's a very nice man but he seems to have had a piss poor education.

Like I said, Tim Nice But Dim.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/02/2019 17:35

@BartonHollow Makes you wonder if somewhere outdoorsy like Gordonstoun might've suited Harry though obviously that was never going to happen. Charles has always said he hated it there but his brothers seemed happy enough. Even Edward, who was supposed to be the sensitive one, was (I think) Head boy?

I love a navy and black combo!

Meghan does look lovely in that causal outfit. Just nice and chill. Shame she wouldn't be able to do that here, there would be a ridiculous uproar of some kind.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/02/2019 17:40

No I really don't think he's dim. I have friends who've met him through their HIV work and they said he was engaged and knowledgeable about the issue. I've met proper TNBDs and they are a whole different breed!

I saw a photo of the henna design and it was rubbish. Megs must be thinking “Bollocks (I’m sure she will have embraced this word by now) I’m stuck with this for the next week” Grin

LoversLane · 24/02/2019 17:49

It’s Dior for the Rabat reception.
I quite like it, covered up and conservative as would be expected for a high status Moroccan event.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/02/2019 17:53

Meghan in a caftan!! See, I told you she's been reading our threads!!!
