Most of the Sovereign Grant is for the upkeep of the palaces which if the RF kept their own homes and the historic palaces were National Trust would be a valid investment

It'd be quite interesting to me if they did just that with BP post HMQs reign.

It's meant to be very dated and draughty - I could see them just not living there - using it for receptions, garden parties and balcony posing and keeping it mostly open to the public except on the odd occasion

I’ve been in BP for a non glamorous meeting & it’s like a big old hospital. Lots of corridors underground, lifts with padding on the walls to protect them.

Even Victoria and Albert hated BP and they were the first to even live there! It was being built prior to her reign

Liz and Phil famously didn't want to live there either

BP should get a lot nicer if they can hang on for another 6 years when their private rooms get a 369 million pound improvement. That's a heck of a lot of improvement for some private rooms, I wonder if it's stuff that Prince Charles would want doing before he takes over?

My grandfather used to work on the boilers for the swimming pool in the late 40s, early 50s but it wasn’t something he ever talked about. I did go to a bread factory once with him, that was interesting.

@BigGreen - I went to BP for an event a couple of years ago and hated it. We left early as did another couple and we all agreed it was a frightful place. It has a really dead, heavy feeling to it. I can't imagine any of the RF wanting to live there or stay there really. I would think once the Queen dies it will be more or less defunct apart from official functions and tours for the public.

They should turn BP into Nando’s.

I don't think we'll need Beatrice and Eugenie and other nephews and nieces and cousins once Charles becomes king because it will be the ideal opportunity to cut down on all of the unnecessary ribbon cutting by the hangers-on. If your event isn't worthy of one of the inner circle so you really want one of the cousins turning up?

I don't think BP has ever worked well, either as a palace or a family home. It's needing a lot of refurbishment because the electrical and heating systems are so outdated. And parts of the building itself are crumbling and falling off.

It is an iconic building, though, so I think it should be preserved. I doubt that Charles will want to live there, nor K&W. But with some imagination it could possibly be re-purposed whilst still keeping the essential bits for royal-related stuff.

Thinking about British brands Kate and Meghan could wear I had a look at Burberry. They’ve both worn Burberry coats before but nothing else as far as I could find! The blue dress seems quite Kate to me and I could see Meghan in one of the all black outfits post pregnancy!

Disappointingly, the pucker at the waist seems to be intentional? It seems to be sewn in that folded way? Shame.

The blouse underneath is stretch lace by the looks of it. I love the colour of it all and I love the grey lining on the coat.

I wonder if the fur cuffs are older separate pieces that can be attached onto whatever coat she wants. They look a bit like they weren't part of the original coat.

Going back to the Duchess of Kent I remember watching a programme years ago about her and one thing that stuck in my memory is that she did volunteer work, she was in this old persons house and she was doing their washing up! I think she is a very kind woman, I mean who could forget this?

So sad to look at that photo and think that poor Jana Novotna is no longer with us.
