The queen was foxy in her time, incredible dresses, this po faced victorian attitude to anything the young ones wear baffles me. Elizabeth and Margaret wore film star type gowns.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 26/02/2019 19:12

Those Dutch princesses are become real swans aren't they?

I'm glad the family haven't been put off skiing.

Tortycat · 26/02/2019 19:14

Just catching up on the thread.

Really saddened to hear about Wimbledon excluding a bereaved child. I always liked the Duchess of Kent and wondered why she stopped doing it. Dont blame her at all. I wonder if Kate will take over that role soon?

I cant believe the cost of some of Meghans dresses this tour. I have more issue with tour wardrobes as they are financed by the taxpayer arnt they? Couture Dior in times of Austerity is taking the piss. And this is directed at all of them not just Meghan. I don't think any other Royal would be offended by lower price tags even if they knew, there's no excuse.

Tortycat · 26/02/2019 19:16

Just to clarify, by any other royal i mean royals of other countries, not any royal other than Meghan!

Hairydilemma · 26/02/2019 19:20

I think someone might have mentioned this shop already on a previous thread, but I thought of you all today as I went past a gorgeous secondhand jewellers in Piccadilly that had a fabulous range of tiaras!

I doubt any royal pays full price! I'm sure it's still ridiculously expensive but I would imagine there are deals done.

So I have had a quick look at future events next one I can see is the

5th at Buckingham Palace where we should see everyone.

6th William and Kate are then in Blackpool.

Nothing else I can see so far confirmed but then there is the common wealth service on the 11th that I imagine all will attend and could possibly meghans last outings Depending on due dates.

beanaseireann · 26/02/2019 19:38

Oh HairyDilemma I've just gone down the rabbit hole of Bentley and Skinner tiaras on their website. Grin

BigGreenOlives · 26/02/2019 19:47

I’m being stalked by yesterday’s long blue dress. My phone can tell I need a style upgrade from leggings & an old jumper.

beanaseireann · 26/02/2019 19:47

I always thought the Duchess of Kent was such a classy lady. Her daughter Lady Helen Taylor is lovely too.

Didn't the Duchess of Kent convert to Catholicism ?

Hairydilemma · 26/02/2019 19:51

Bean, amazing aren’t they?! Whoever do they sell them to???

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/02/2019 19:53

She did @beanaseireann, and her sons and some of her grandkids converted too and are no longer in the line of succession.

The whole Kate Wimbledon Thing is I think a bit Awks for all concerned

The Duke Of Kent is PRESIDENT of the AELTC which makes them refusing to honour a request from his WIFE all the weirder.

Kate has the PATRONAGE having replaced the Queen

I think it's obvious to all that the AELTC would rather have Kate bringing the glamour, flying the flag and giving out the trophies but the DoK was doing it so long because The Queen can't be arsed with Tennis (preferring racing) that they can't insult him with

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR YEARS, WE'VE GOT KATE NOW FUCKITY BYE

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/02/2019 20:03

The Duke is in his 80s now (and has been duke for about 74 years!) so he may be thinking of retiring from public life. In fact, a lot of HM's cousins are getting on a fair bit so I wonder who's going to replace them in the engagements they carry out? I think Harry and Meghan will remain relevant for a while yet but they and the Cambridges won't be able to do it all. Charles may come to regret not giving Beatrice and Eugenie some sort of official role!

High Five Queen - SwotISaid like 45 threads ago. Grin

There's going to be a big gap in workforce between when Old Guard AND The Queens older children become too infirm and George and Charlotte graduating to proper roles

itswinetime · 26/02/2019 20:29

I wonder if we will see some back tracking on Beatrice and Eugenie although even those 2 won't be enough to cover all the cousins and then eventually the queens children. Since the wedding Eugenie has been posting lots on Instagram about visits that look to me very like royal vists but then aren't their role or lack of role seems very flexible and grey to me.

Harry and Meghan will be at the fore front throughout Charles's reign I think and probably Williams to.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/02/2019 20:34

I suppose there's Louise and James too and by the time William is king they'll be old enough to take on royal engagements.

Aberforthsgoat · 26/02/2019 20:43

barton I want fuckity bye as my new username next time I change Grin

HairyToity · 26/02/2019 20:49

For goodness sake, surely we don't need all the queen's grandchildren on the civil list. Can't Beatrice, Eugenie, Louise and James get proper jobs. No other country needs a huge extended family to cut ribbons. It's daft.

I would ideally like a republic, but if that's not possible, then definitely less hangers on. The Dutch don't have a big extended family carrying out engagements.

Royals are just people, I don't believe any of them have special blood. All this fawning is bonkers. Although I do like the clothes. Blush

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/02/2019 20:50

Who is actually on the civil list? I thought the Kents and Gloucesters etc weren't anymore.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 26/02/2019 20:52

@HairyToity I think the extended Dutch royal family do carry out duties. But yes, of course a republic would be better!

OP posts:
BartonHollow · 26/02/2019 20:52

Beatrice and Eugenie do have Posh Girl Non Jobs

Louise is an accomplished rider and may go the Zara route

James will probably go the Matthews/Middleton route Posh Boy Hedge Fund

SenecaFalls · 26/02/2019 20:53

I think the Civil List went fucklty bye a few years ago.

BartonHollow · 26/02/2019 20:55

Civil List was abolished about 5 years ago

It's the Sovereign Grant

HairyToity · 26/02/2019 20:59

Well sovereign grant then. I think that was Cameron giving them a pay increase by the back door.

HairyToity · 26/02/2019 21:03

I mentioned Dutch as I think I read once that the King's siblings all have normal jobs. I thought how refreshing!
