Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

I don't like her dress, it reminds me of medical drawings of dissected people - the cream being the bone and the pink being the muscle!!

That or raspberry ripple ice cream anyway.

Sorry love, it's a fail from me, but I don't suppose you'll be crying into your prosecco! Grin

TokyoSushi · 13/02/2019 21:49

Flippy skirt today was well, fine. Beautiful dress tonight but possibly better in a different colour.

Busy the last few days but just to add that I loved the BAFTA dress, but I do love Kate very much anyway!

UrsulaPandress · 13/02/2019 21:53

Oh Mmmm that's what it reminds me of. Dds biology book

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/02/2019 21:54

@Mmmhmmokdear that's all I can see now, Gucci's Gunther Von Hagens diffusion range!

Best thing about KM’s look tonight was her smile. She’s so game, and looks enthusiastic and happy to be doing what she’s doing.

The dress though.....oh dear. That would have looked just gorgeous on Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Monica Bellucci, Glenn Close. KM is too young, too lithe, not buxom enough for that dress. The dress wears her (also she’s stepping on it, too long). Also, all that floaty, ethereal fabric is inappropriate for a Women in Finance dinner I think. A really slick, black or printed/textured, satin/silk palazzo pants trouser suit/tuxedo, with tasteful jewelry, heels soft make-up would have looked nice. Something Amal Clooney would wear to a work do, basically.

chocolatecheesecake · 13/02/2019 22:13

I love tonight's dress. Gorgeous colours and shape, and I love the burgundy accent of belt and bag. Much preferred it to the bafta outfit.

Schoeny · 13/02/2019 22:14

Queen Letitia is in a white evening dress tonight:

Lukewarm on Letizia's white dress. It looks very 1996.

Another one who's not a fan of Kate's dress tonight. The chest wrap bit is bizarre and the skirt should have been one colour or the other IMO. I think it's the kind of dress that looked better on the hanger Grin

BlingLoving · 13/02/2019 22:23

I like Letitzia's dress.

I feel later dress tonight was too similar to Sunday. Belted, soft floaty skirt, chiffon.... sure the bodice and colours were different but it was in same vein. Agree with pp that something slicker or edgier would have been better.

kooshbin · 13/02/2019 22:26

7salmon - yes, that's it. It was the wrong kind of outfit for the reasons you've said. It's a voluptuous dress, but she doesn't have the figure for it. And it's too floaty for that kind of event. I agree that something a la Amal Clooney would have been better.

However, I've just watched part 2 of the Paxman documentary, and I still think that the RF got very lucky with Kate. I know these threads are all supposed to be about the clothes and jewellery, but if Kate gets it wrong it's only minor in comparison with her uncles-in-law.

BeautifulComicalThings · 13/02/2019 22:39

The sparkly shoes tonight were Oscar de la Renta, the ones on Sunday were Jimmy Choo. They look pretty much the same so it’d make more sense to make the shoes a rewear to me 🤷‍♀️

It looks very 1996.

Or a bit American MOB for any of the last three decades, except for the color, of course.

Letizia still looks great, though.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 13/02/2019 22:53

I'm genuinely curious how people know these things. How do people know they aren't shoes she picked up in the New Look sale?! The dresses I get are a bit more distinctive but if it's just a sparkly pair of silver shoes, or a plain black cashmere jumper, how do people know where they are from? I don't think the royals do press releases or anything, so is it just eagle eyed fashion fans?

BeautifulComicalThings · 13/02/2019 22:58

AFifthOfKoolAid I’ve wondered the same in the past - apparently a royal staff member lets the press know what they royal is wearing when they arrive so that’s how they know so quickly Smile

BartonHollow · 13/02/2019 23:14

Loved tonight's outfit, outright perfect Princess look.

You can only hope she's reading and thinking :

Get a load of this then vipers !

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/02/2019 23:23

@7salmon
Your suggestion of le smoking for Kate was spot on for the business dinner.

She could go black, like Catherine Deneuve with nothing underneath, and just a diamond sculptural necklace.
Or white li ke bianca jagger. Kate looks awesome in trousers; but not her skinny jeans; flows pants with heels

7salmonswimming · 14/02/2019 01:04

Actually, possibly more Michelle Obama than Amal Clooney. Don’t want to fall into the misogynist trope of women having to suppress their femininity in the still male-dominated world of finance. MO manages to be beautiful and feminine (but not frilly/ frou-frou) and still command the room in a predominantly man’s world (unlike Hilary Clinton who always looked like she’d be more comfortable in a smock). I think it’s a combination of height, bearing, and a “I’m here on business” attitude. KM has the first and third, but lacks bearing (also has an appalling posture).

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 14/02/2019 01:37

Yes 7salmon I agree re the posture!

IdaBWells · 14/02/2019 04:02

I definitely would like to see Catherine in some more glamorous trouser suits. They could be a great addition to her uniform of coat dresses and two piece skirt suits.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/02/2019 07:33

I don't think we'll get a duchess sighting again til H&M's Morocco trip, although KP doesn't announce visits more than a week in advance these days so they could surprise us.

The Cambridge and Sussex engagements don't even appear in the Court Circular, although there are a few events coming up in HM's diary that they may well attend.

There's been no announcement about when Meghan is going on maternity leave has there? People seem to think it's after the Morocco trip but I'm not sure the palace has confirmed it. They did for Kate's maternity leaves.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 14/02/2019 07:36

I would too @IdaBWells and I look forward to seeing Meghan return to her suits after she has the baby. The McQueen tux remains one of her best looks. Kate looked great in wide-legged trousers for the RAF visit too, but maybe she just prefers skirts and dresses.

Found you Queen

Another great thread title.

I am loving this week for gowns and Kate. If only every week had so many beautiful dresses!

I adored the white but the pink gown from last night is equally amazing.

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Can you imagine if Kate came out in le smoking with no blouse and just jewellery under her jacket? I think the Daily Mail would spontaneously combust!!

She'd look great though. She's a very striking woman with a fantastic figure and could carry off a sophisticated look like that.

Or even something like this, complete with the edgier hair. It's got the skinny trouser she favours but what a change that would be. She'd make the front pages the world over!

Kate really suits these floaty dresses, beautiful! Now pp says it looks like an anatomy figure I can’t unsee it! Why is there a dark stripe over the boobs? That rather flattens that bit BUT overall a nice glamorous look! Also agree on posture but Kate’s rather tall and likely slumps a bit to match the height of others
