Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

I really think this red Valentino dress is a hit. This is what true couture /bespoke tailoring is, perfectly fitting clothes that works with your shape. Valentino fabrics are always thick . they have a fabric called couture crepe and it doesn’t crease that easily , I think this dress is made out of that fabric .

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 22:25

Affected literally means pretentious... if you are saying something someone is doing looks affected you are saying they look pretentious. Because an inanimate object in itself cannot be affected, therefore the comment is about the person.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 22:26

I always wonder with these things, do they get changed on the plane after it lands? How have they not got a crease on them?

Paradyning · 23/02/2019 22:28

Jealous of your beautiful Valentino dress Queenofarles!

Slapdasherie · 23/02/2019 22:29

An action can be affected without being a comment on their character.

Maybe lay off the koolaid for a bit.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/02/2019 22:35

Let's all just agree to disagree about the gloves shall we? Otherwise we'll just end up going around in circles again!

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/02/2019 22:36

@AFifthOfKoolAid I'm convinced they travel in comfortable clothes and get changed just before landing.

But to follow it up with "but Kate doesn't do this, and the Queen and Princess Anne do but it's allowed, but when she does it it's affected" is clearly a comment on her intent and character

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 22:38

Sorry QueenOfTheAndals I'll shush about the gloves!

I do that on my travels too. Except I fail to change out of my leggings.

justasking111 · 23/02/2019 22:38

I like the Valentino dress, very elegant.

frugalkitty · 23/02/2019 22:42

I like the dress, nice colour on her, not crumpled (no label hanging out!) I'd say it's a hit. Can't get het up about the gloves, it would seem a bit odd to me to only have them to carry, maybe she was going to wear them and changed her mind. Maybe they are actually Harry's and her asked her to put them in her handbag but they didn't fit Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/02/2019 22:54

Amazing colour on meg. Valentino red.
That’s a lot of FCO budget ( tax payer’s money) to spend on an Italian couture coat, when you’re supposed to be promoting Britain.
She really DGAF

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 23:07

Maybe she's making a subliminal anti-Brexit statement.

FiveTwoFaster · 23/02/2019 23:48

She looks great - I love this look on her. Very Meghan and you wouldn’t get Kate in it. Great colour. Not sure on Harry’s suit.

Aberforthsgoat · 23/02/2019 23:59

I love Meghan’s dress but think they’d look better together if harry’s Suit wasn’t so pale.
He looks good though!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 24/02/2019 00:13

I thought everyone on here would have just been delighted that Meghan had read this thread and decided yes it’s time I took the advice of the mumsnet massive and wear proper maternity wear!

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 00:22

I thought that too

As well as ooo look she's clearly picking up on the little touches now

BeautifulComicalThings · 24/02/2019 00:22

Red looks great on her and I love the 60s shape of the dress! Agree about the accessories itswinetime I don’t love nude with red, I think because nudes can look pink toned they don’t necessarily go.

I don’t think the gloves would match the length of the sleeves even if they were worn?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 24/02/2019 00:46

Gloves don’t have to match the length of the sleeves they are a bit of a statement worn that way rather than just functional, I love these vintage looks.

I don't think MM is struggling with the adjustment to royal life.

I do think there are sections of the press and public who are struggling to adjust to her presence in the royal family. Actually, I think it's just the press.

I love that jewel red on her, and the style is perfect for maternity.

I wonder is it possible that the gloves are a more formal touch given that this is an official visit to a kingdom, or even a culturally sensitive one given that Morocco is a predominantly Muslim state. Either way, I think they add to the incredibly cool 60s vibe here, as does her hairstyle. This is how my mum used to wear hers Smile

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 24/02/2019 02:03

Bring back the glove I say, it just looks so polished and together.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/02/2019 02:47

The 50s / 60s vibe ( Mad Men era) suits her professional (duchess) wardrobe the best.
She is petite so the tailoring and proportions work well on her.

I like the carried gloves; it’s very chic and retro. However bracelet length sleeves require bracelets otherwise those bare arms look too bare.

I like the nude shoe; hair was perfect.
The bag jarred a bit; I think a red the same colour as her coat would have blended, she had too much in her hands.

Hope to see the coat again post pregnancy and without the capelet thing. Swinging open with a lbd and black stilettos and 60s hair.
Would also work well with colour blocking, as that shade of red is a classic and practically a neutral.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/02/2019 02:55

I think Meghan shouldn’t try and blend her personal off duty style, as she has it nailed. Hollywood star, shades, ripped jeans, statement bag. That’s her comfort zone.
When she tries to jazz up the duchess ( that white shirt tucked into long black skirt) it looks a mess.
When she pays it straight; notably the Dior for the raf service, Stella nmcartney at the Albert hall, many others, she just looks wrong.

A lot of the senior royal ladies don’t mix their off duty style with work wardrobe.
Off duty queen: tweeds, Barbour, Hermes scarf. On duty: zingy mad colours.
Kate: Breton T-shirts, skinny jeans, Zara. On duty: McQueen, wickstead, Packham.
Meghan: off duty, Hollywood stuff; I like it.
On duty: fitted Givenchy, McCartney, please find some more British designers! Meghan’s patronage would be worth billions to uk fashion.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/02/2019 02:56
  • sorry that should be playing it straight, she looks right
rosewater20 · 24/02/2019 03:00

Love the raspberry colour and the classic cut of the dress. I am not keen on the cape part though, it does seem a bit odd to me and makes the top part of her look quite wide. As always, her make is flawless. I would love to see how she applies her makeup and what products she uses.
