Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

It used to be fun before people could not help themselves sniping at a woman for carrying gloves

hopeishere · 23/02/2019 21:40

Maybe on a young person it looks affected is what I meant. It's a very dated concept.

queenofarles · 23/02/2019 21:41

Oh I like that dress, Claire Foy wore A similar style ,

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/02/2019 21:43

Ok let's just drop the gloves debate and look forward to what tomorrow may hold for Meghan, sartorially speaking!

What I mean is :

Meghan doesn't wear/carry gloves =

LOOK AT MEGHAN NOT FOLLOWING PROTOCOL

Meghan wears/carries gloves =

GOSH LOOK AT MEGHAN SO AFFECTED OF HER

The girl literally cannot do right for doing wrong

And that's why I get annoyed because yes these threads are supposed to be light and fun but in recent days they've become very much :

OH GOOD AN OPPORTUNITY HAS PRESENTED ITSELF TO DRAG MEGHAN FOR FILTH (as the youth say)

BartonHollow · 23/02/2019 21:46

Sorry Queenie we cross posted 😘

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 21:48

Exactly, Barton.

Here are two young royals carrying gloves.

Side note, apart from the hat I actually adore Beatrice's outfit here!

I think she looks great. And sometimes I wish that gloves would make a comeback a la Jackie Kennedy in a coat with bracelet sleeves and soft kid gloves.

BartonHollow · 23/02/2019 21:49

And I still think the cape bit looks like bog roll but I like the cut of the dress the finish and the colour, very old glamour as you'd expect from Valentino

MrsArcher23 · 23/02/2019 21:50

Meghan looks beautiful- the colour really suits her and she looks very appropriate for the occasion. Hot husband in grey suit sets the look off to perfection 😊

beachyhead · 23/02/2019 21:50

I think the gloves add to the whole 60's vibe and the cape covering her shoulders is respectful. I think she looks great....

SenecaFalls · 23/02/2019 21:51

I meant Meghan looks great, although I agree that Bea's ensemble is good too, minus the IUD hat.

certainlymerry · 23/02/2019 21:56

I love the colour and shape of it but agree the cape is a bit strange. It's very unusual. I think the reason the Royals wear gloves is to use them when shaking hands with the common people for fear of catching germs. It's also a bit of a throwback to earlier times when wearing a hat and gloves for women was the done thing. The RF are still doing it , like the headscarves the Queen wears. No one wears them anymore in normal life, but women used to wear them routinely.

hopeishere · 23/02/2019 22:04

I like the cape. I think it lifts it.

Slapdasherie · 23/02/2019 22:08

Carrying gloves looks affected whoever does it, IMO. Beatrice and Eugénie included.
Surely different opinions are still allowed?
On the plus side, the dress is beautiful, can’t quite workout how the cape works, but she looks stunning.
Except for the shoes. I think a darker colour would have been better.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 22:09

Saying you don't think carrying an accessory looks good is different from saying the person carrying said accessory is pretentious

Haworthia · 23/02/2019 22:10

I think they look fabulous.

hopeishere · 23/02/2019 22:13

I do not think Meghan is pretentious. I think she is a fantastic woman with the wit, knowledge, aptitude and position to make a difference. Highlight issues.

I think she is struggling with the adjustment to Royal life. And that is not unexpected. What looks like fun from the outside is probably a gilded cave.

hopeishere · 23/02/2019 22:14

kooshbin · 23/02/2019 22:15

I wonder what advice is given for overseas official visits? I should imagine that for somewhere like Australia/New Zealand, the advice would be pretty minimal, except maybe to avoid colours that might be politically sensitive, e.g. flags of countries that Oz/NZ are a bit at odds with.

Morocco is probably more sensitive in terms of what's appropriate clothing. Presumably no low necklines or short skirts. Maybe, you know, the gloves are there to add a touch of formality.

The colour of the dress looks amazing on Meghan, and perhaps not coincidentally is the colour of the Moroccan flag.

queenofarles · 23/02/2019 22:15

Beatrice dress is Valentino too, gorgeous colour This blush/dusty pink Colour was dubbed the new Valentino red buy Maria Grazia and piccioli . I fell in love with this colour and bought this gorgeous Valentino dress, in 2012 it’s still one of my all time favorite dresses.

So maybe Meghan's bringing a style back with her glove carrying. Like Kate drawing her inspiration from 16th century headgear.

And didn't we see Max recently carrying gloves?

Slapdasherie · 23/02/2019 22:18

AFifth. Who called her pretentious? PP said it looks affected, ie the carrying of the gloves, not MM.

Paradyning · 23/02/2019 22:20

She looks fabulous. Very business like and 'appropriate'. Immaculate make up as normal.
Harry looks a bit odd. I wonder due to the delay that was a more daytime suit. It just looks odd at nighttime but he's a boy and probably doesn't give a crap about stuff like that.
