Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

I gave birth at 31 weeks so I'm very pleased I wasn't expected to dress up and eat dinner in another country at 30 weeks Smile

Quintella · 23/02/2019 21:00

90% of the good looks in that relationship are Meghan's.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 21:02

What can I say, Quintella, ginger beards and grey suits do things to me!

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/02/2019 21:02

Oh I'm not averse to a bit of Harry! He's certainly upped his sartorial game since Meghan came on the scene.

Quintella · 23/02/2019 21:08

I just hope he's careful with his bathroom visits in that pale grey suit! Grin

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 23/02/2019 21:12

Meghan looks absolutely fantastic. Agree with pp that it's got a cool 60s vibe, and the colour is beautiful.

hopeishere · 23/02/2019 21:13

I think she looks great. But... she needs to ditch the gloves. So affected. Also, and I'm channeling my dear departed mum here but a dress that expensive should not have a seam down the middle of the front.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/02/2019 21:15

I've never actually seen her wear gloves before.

OP posts:
BartonHollow · 23/02/2019 21:16

Front view is better than side view

Reminiscent of Grace Kelly

BartonHollow · 23/02/2019 21:17

Until very recently gloves were compulsory

You never see Anne without

hopeishere · 23/02/2019 21:24

Yes. But she's in her 60s and does actually wear them. On Meghan it looks affected. Kate doesn't wear them (unless it's cold!).

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 21:27

Who cares if Kate does or does not wear them? Maybe she sees Anne with them and thinks it's the done thing so is trying to do the same in a bid to be more in line with protocol? Or maybe she just wanted to carry a pair of gloves?

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/02/2019 21:27

Is there some cultural reason for it?

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 23/02/2019 21:28

Or maybe she's like me and gets really cold hands!

kooshbin · 23/02/2019 21:28

hope - it looks more like a pleat at the front of the dress rather than a seam. I wonder if an extra bit has been let in to accommodate her bump?

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 23/02/2019 21:30

I'm not mad on the dress- it reminds me of a catholic cardinal's cape.

The length is great on her though, and the colour is a nice change.

ElspethFlashman · 23/02/2019 21:31

I'm not keen. Fluffy red tent.

hopeishere · 23/02/2019 21:31

But why try and stay in line with protocol. It's so dated. I though she wanted to modernise?

Yes I can see now it goes down to a pleat. My mum can rest easy!

UrsulaPandress · 23/02/2019 21:32

She looks fab.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/02/2019 21:32

Who said she wanted to modernise?

Grinchly · 23/02/2019 21:33

Re Meghan Markle the simple fact is, now she has access to unimaginable wealth, she is behaving like an A-list celebrity, rather than a member of the Royal Family.

The two are very different.

BartonHollow · 23/02/2019 21:33

"On Meghan it looks affected"

Ah I see...

That which was protocol for the Royal Women for decades looks AFFECTED on MEGHAN presumably for the crime of being Meghan

Kate wore gloves on Christmas Day, as did Eugenie, Sophie, Autumn and Beatrice. HTH.

ElspethFlashman · 23/02/2019 21:36

Looks like the Capelet part is removable.

Even though its embroidered, I would have much preferred if the Capelet was removed and it was just a chic red trapeze dress. The capelet is a bit Star Trek.

hopeishere · 23/02/2019 21:37

Yes. Wore gloves. Not carried gloves.

Seriously people. These threads used to be fun. Sad

7salmonswimming · 23/02/2019 21:37

This look is a success in my books! Well accessorized, hits the right tones, appropriate for the occasion and time of day, appropriate for the host country, sufficient leg/arm coverage, fits perfectly. Hair tied back so no girly/flippy bits. Bit of make-up gloss, which would go down well there. Appropriately duchess-y. Harry looking appropriately bland, letting his wife shine.

To me, this is 100% success for her, for the first time ever on a royal engagement!
