All of my DdS' friends watched Suits and recommended it to us. Lots of friends watched it too. It ran for 8 seasons and she was a leading role. She was a successful actress earning tens of thousands of dollars an episode. Frankly I think she was mad to give it up for this.

I should imagine one of the reasons the baby shower got so much coverage so cos it’s the first publicised visit MM has done to the US since her wedding - I’m sure US journalists really want to see her and she may as well let herself be seen, Seems like there is still a string interest in her in the US.
We really feel like we own her now as she is part of the classic British Institution of the RF but the way George Clooney has spoken about her and the Beyonce/Jay Z bit at the Brits indicates to me American still see her, to some extent, as an ‘American princess’ and as such she might well feel she needs to perform that when in the US.

This is speculative but if she had snuck of to some property in the Hamptons or where ever else rich Americans live she wouldn’t have been ‘doing her bit’ in America by being seen. I think she has the unique challenge of remaining relevant to a US and UK demographic - which as we can see from the comments here is really difficult.

Also the George Clooney comments are surely partly to do with the fact he and Amal have successfully sued the Daily Mail - he has personal beef with them and Meghan can’t respond in the way he did. I mean I’d love it if she sued the DM but I don’t see it happening!

Who actually cares if she was or wasn't well known before Harry. The woman was absolutely NUTS to move to be constantly bullied and criticised. The British need to take a long hard look at themselves. They either accept the RF while accepting they don't get a say in how it is run or they support a democracy and get rid of the RF altogether. That is the choice. Though goodness knows given the debacle of Brexit how easy it would be to get rid of the RF.

Fabulous pictures of the children, @QueenoftheAndals and @banivani - it's lovely to see them doing ordinary things. I find the way they dress really endearing - it's style I try to emulate with my dd.

I know others have said it, but please can we stick to style and beauty? All the noise about the shower this week has been done to death and is getting rather tedious on a thread which is meant to be fun.

There is. She is a bi-racial divorced actress who married into the only RF that most Americans have any familiarity with at all. There is a lot of mainstream media coverage of her in the US, which is almost overwhelmingly positive, by the way. US media coverage has also focused on the racial aspects of the negative coverage of her in the UK. Considering what she has experienced in the UK, I am sure that her short visit to perhaps friendlier shores occupied by friendlier media probably gave her a much needed lift in spirits.

That tweedy Gucci @CurlyWurlyTwirly posted is one of my all-time favourite Kate dresses. It's very Jackie O. It dates from before the racism controversy so she'll get a pass from me on that - I can't say the same for her recent Gucci choice!

The Hello headline made me laugh - it sounds like Letizia has phoned Meghan to give her a few tips! "Wear a light colour" and "take low key accessories" won't be problems for our Megs, and I'm also wondering if the cultural context will mean less of the bodycon outfits she's favoured lately? All will be revealed tomorrow...
