And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

@pingudance
I didn’t know Rihanna cited Diana as a style inspiration....?

Btw, what is normcore?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/02/2019 15:21

the pink dress from the Diana Exhibition

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/02/2019 15:23

Look at the Royal doppelgangers

AFifthOfKoolAid · 22/02/2019 15:24

Sherbet I think one of the royal weddings last year (or possibly both) also donated their flowers. At least they don't go to waste! I wonder what happened to the trees from Kate and William's wedding, surely planted for posterity somewhere.

Article about the Queen

Normcore is a kind of millennial way of describing that 90s no-fashion fashion, just looking really standard but deliberately so - can also be sort of ironic.

The Rihanna quote is great - it does make sense too, I think Diana wore a lot of her later outfits with attitude

Thanks @pingu

It’s interesting seeing Diana through fresh eyes, by people who were either very young or not yet born.
I love the «Diana as a gangsta» quote. She totally was!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/02/2019 15:30

I guess mom jeans are normcore?

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/02/2019 15:30

What was Lady Helen thinking? That's an outfit I see on lots of MEN outside my local mosque on a Friday afternoon!

I’m loving that @dianaremembered thread.

This photo of a State Banquet is classic 80s wear.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/02/2019 15:37

This has got to be Gangsta

Diana loved her literal dressing!

BartonHollow · 22/02/2019 15:41

Kate did similar when they went to Canada didn't she Curly ?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/02/2019 15:41

Those sunglasses would be so hip now.
She looks like Kanye

@bartonhollow
Yes Anne of Green Gables

BartonHollow · 22/02/2019 15:46

Like she wore a white and red outfit it was really nice but I wouldn't know where to find it

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/02/2019 15:52

Kate takes literal dressing to a new level. Not only did she wear an AOGG dress in Canada, she also wore a hat in the shape of a maple leaf. The only way she could've got more Canadian than that was if she'd dressed as a Mountie!

Just found this portrait of Diana in 1981. Here is the full version

She was shot by Snowdon for Vogue.
I think she looks utterly contemporary with the short dark hair and ruffled top. Stunning.

EstrellaDamn · 22/02/2019 15:52

She so doesn't @BartonHollow Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/02/2019 15:54

Diana had beautiful skin. And those were the days before photoshop! Her short hair was very unusual too. The only royal woman I can think of today with short hair is Charlene of Monaco.

ElspethFlashman · 22/02/2019 15:59

That photo of Diana in the yellow hat! Nope!

(Also remembering how nobody could look bored and pissed off like Diana...)

BartonHollow · 22/02/2019 16:09

I think she really does!

She still looks like a beautiful elegant woman whereas the rest of us would look an absolute bag of spanners in the same outfit

SenecaFalls · 22/02/2019 16:11

normcore

There is also "menocore* for women of a certain age. Smile

UrsulaPandress · 22/02/2019 16:14

The fit of those jeans is shocking.

PinguDance · 22/02/2019 16:15

I think the spirit of normcore is that you don’t have to bother with your clothes cos you know you’re all that - so it works for Steve Jobs and Barack Obama and early 20s vice journalists alike. Also off duty Diana.

Love this pic of Diana looking mardy af too - imagine if MM or Kate tried got caught with this expression!

pinkground202 · 22/02/2019 16:21

Sorry to drag the conversation back to the baby shower, but this as a NY society florist I follow, It seems they did flower arrangements and donated them to charity.

No matter what MM does or doesn't do she will be criticised for it, poor woman. No Amount of Givenchy dresses or private jets will make up for the loss of privacy IMO.
