Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

The angst over this, mostly drummed up by the Daily Mail which is almost entirely fictional.. blows my mind.

She is rich. Her husband is rich. Herhusbands family are rich. Her friends are rich. This is fact. (And putting aside thenhand wringing 're Other People's Money because without public funds, believe me, they would all still be RICH!! The public funds are used for all their very expensive official stuff).

Rich people throw parties in fancy hotels. And eat at fancy restaurants. I just can't get worked up about it.

What does annoy me is the blatant fiction. The DM and Sun in particular. Making up stuff about the baby shower. And then it all gets reported elsewhere as fact. It's outrageous.

Broadly, i have felt the media gets a bad rap. But these is insane. You can't print as a fact what appeared in another story in another paper as speculation!

IdaBWells · 21/02/2019 08:57

We know they are stalking Meghan and she can get nothing right but it does seem strange that she wouldn’t have done this truly in secret because if she can wing in and out of places on private jets in would be very easy to do so.

Notmyrealname855 · 21/02/2019 08:58

But you can just put aside OPM, it’s our money Hmm Maybe they’re all much much richer than they’ve made out, anyway them being so rich exposes the gulf between us and them - this is why the others all try and look very meek. It starts to stress test ideas like can they represent us (when they don’t live anything like us), and can you really care about any cause but live like this. Some of us have been saying this for years (and years and years), it’s all a con.

Saying that, the press need to be held to order. It’s dangerous to report anything that’s inaccurate, especially when MM is acting as a lightning rod for the rest of them. They seem to be so keen to report a story and not fact check, very dangerous territory! It’ll be very interesting when MM goes on mat leave as the press will (should) have nothing to say!

Shame we don’t have much fashion to talk about! Any new events coming up?

ElspethFlashman · 21/02/2019 08:59

Privacy is 100% possible. I mean we still don't know where they went in honeymoon! Some say Canada, some say Ireland but nobody has a clue really. And they were suspiciously tanned the other week and they definitely have gone on holiday recently. No photos, no reports.

You could hire a big party house in upstate NY for a weekend and just go to town. Have everyone stay over, have the whole thing catered. 40 mins from Grand Central. Easy!

Actually now that I think about it - do Royals ever spend 5 days in a hotel? Even on a Tour they move hotels every 2 days and are put up in local Government accommodation where possible. On private Holidays they simply do not use hotels at all. They rent or borrow cottages or houses or villas. Always!

And this is why! I would absolutely LOVE to see Anne's face right now.

Notmyrealname855 · 21/02/2019 09:06

Do we really not know about the honeymoon? Ooh I’d spend it in Botswana!

AFifthOfKoolAid · 21/02/2019 09:07

Notmyrealname, I'm not sure about this notion that a monarchy is supposed to make us feel good about ourselves and that any royal is just one of us Confused.

Of course they're filthy rich. The Queen has mountains of jewels from colonial times, she has numerous Rolls Royce's, she has multiple palaces and castles... They aren't just moderately rich. They're stinking rich. The gulf between them and the man on the street is not a con, it's blatantly obvious and no secret.

Paradyning · 21/02/2019 09:11

The closing their own door thing is not the 'done thing' for security reasons. It so that they can dive straight back in to somewhere safe should an immediate threat present itself upon exit. Apparently!
To us meet mortals who dont have targets on our heads it doesn't matter as much.

Paradyning · 21/02/2019 09:12

IdaBWells · 21/02/2019 09:16

frugalkitty hope you are feeling better and also that it wasn’t anything serious.

IdaBWells · 21/02/2019 09:26

Not many “moderately rich” people that pass multiple tiaras down through the fam and play a sport that involves a number of ponies per player each game which you schlep around in conveys Grin.

beanaseireann · 21/02/2019 09:46

I agree with your post of approx 9am ElspethFlashman.
It could have been so much more discreet.
I hope FrugalKitty you're recovering.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/02/2019 09:52

It sounds like it was discreet for a few days but once the media found out I can't blame her for putting some measures in place.

And photos from the alleged shoot for Harper's are yet to appear so I'm wondering if that was a piece of fiction too?

AFifthOfKoolAid · 21/02/2019 09:55

If it has been behind closed doors we'd have no outfits to talk about 🤷

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/02/2019 09:58

I would absolutely LOVE to see Anne's face right now.

Anne whose son sold his wedding photos to Hello??

peridito · 21/02/2019 10:30

I know my posts are largely invisible because I haven't garlanded them with niceties introducing myself ( or possibly because their content is of no consequence Smile ) but.....

a) I thought Meghan's mum was al;ready ensconced in Uk

b) Just why doesn't Meghan wear clothes that suit her pregnant state for her formal duties in the UK ? She looked spot on in those baby shower photos . Maybe she's overthinking the step from casual to formal ?

and c)I was musing about this sentiment Back to Meghan and I think she needs to be very careful about how she's perceived at the moment and wondering if she actually does ? Or if she cares ? Will she arouse the wrath of the firm ,will "they" make life difficult for her and Harry ?

SlipperOrchid · 21/02/2019 10:38

Just saw photos of Meghan inher sports clothes. Oozing style and despite showing her baby bump so early in her pregnancy, she doesn’t seemto have put on an ounce anywhere other than the bump!

Not going to comment on her trip otherwise because I find the press coverage and constant slagging off poisonous.

itswinetime · 21/02/2019 11:27

i thought Meghan's mum was already ensconced in Uk

Hello 👋 nope Doria has stayed in L.A there have been many rumours but no confirmed news of a move.

Just why doesn't Meghan wear clothes that suit her pregnant state for her formal duties in the UK?

I think it's case of finding out what her formal style is as a royal and then again as a pregnant royal. She seems to be trying to blend her style with what is considered appropriate royal outfits personally I think she would be better just doing what she wants seeing what happens.

And as to c) I hope that they aren't to bothered personally lots of what is being said is spiteful rubbish.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/02/2019 11:32

Meghan heading home.
The tracksuit is a surprise, but very sensible for travelling.
Like the cashmere coat and trainers

Quintella · 21/02/2019 11:33

If I were Doria there's no way I'd make a permanent move to the UK. Isn't she an LA dwelling yoga instructor? I'm not sure dreary England and the intrusive press would be an alluring swap. I'd imagine she's planning a long visit after the baby arrives however.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/02/2019 11:36

How fantastic does the Queen look in magenta. I also love the sari colours of the ambassador from Sri Lanka

BartonHollow · 21/02/2019 11:38

If I was 7 months pregnant on a 12 hour flight I would also be wearing a tracksuit Grin she makes it look polished anyway

hopeishere · 21/02/2019 11:40

They definitely came to Ireland for a short break. They stayed in Ashford Castle.

I do think a shower shoot for HB would be a terrible idea. Peter Phillips gets no money from the crown hence selling his wedding pics.

Why would someone keen to be seen as "boots on the ground" do a shower shoot (not a British invention) with super rich people in an expensive hotel. If and it's an if (and I don't think she has done it) it would be spectacularly tone deaf and the sign she is getting shocking PR advice.

Quintella · 21/02/2019 11:45

The jewel colours on both the women in that pic are fab.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/02/2019 11:51

Meghan is promoting her friend Abigail Spencer’s tv series on her cap

I thought she’d learnt after the Serena Williams blazer promo on the Down Under tour.
Who on earth is advising her on etiquette ?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/02/2019 11:54

Having been a huge Diwna fan in the 80s / 90s; I never thought I would say this but I am glad that after the Queen; we will have Camilla.
