Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

I couldn’t understand the candy machine and the photos of baby themed biscuits. None of the guests look as if a morsel of sugar has ever passed their lips.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 21/02/2019 14:00

Queen looking wonderful there

Notmyrealname855 · 21/02/2019 14:13

Queen looking fab! I’ve never met a lady her age who tries those sorts of bright colours, and they always look great on her. Hair and makeup always impeccable too!

PineapplePower · 21/02/2019 14:37

The other funny idea to me is that when you go to NY you should easily be able to see your friends and family in California

On her level, yeah, actually, it would be. Meghan is “catch the next flight to New York/LA” rich. The hoi polloi would need a bit of notice to make the trip, and it might be a bit of a sacrifice, but still most first-time grandmothers would do whatever they could to be a part of it.

EstrellaDamn · 21/02/2019 15:34

The words shower shoot are Grin

Maybe just my dirty mind! As you were...

AFifthOfKoolAid · 21/02/2019 15:57

Critical when she takes a private jet (apparently). Critical when she doesn't hire a private jet for her mum to attend a baby shower (apparently).

She cannae win.

cathyandclare · 21/02/2019 16:03

I think it looks like a lovely event. The Harper's pics so far are hardly exclusive (so far). Nice touch with the flowers. I love Meghan's off-duty fashion, she looks cool, glossy and relaxed.

BartonHollow · 21/02/2019 16:27

So as expected it was an appropriately handled and private event.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/02/2019 16:32

I honestly didn't think it would be anything other than that @BartonHollow. As if Meghan would've invited Harper's in to do a shoot at her baby shower!

And yet we have another thread bashing her for "excessive spending"

At a party that was laid on and hosted for her by a multimillionaire sport star Hmm I couldn't be arsed to argue.

cathyandclare · 21/02/2019 16:46

Glad to see that horrible, and unnecessarily vitriolic, thread has been taken down.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/02/2019 16:46

The tax payer didn't pay for it so I'm not too bothered tbh. Her friends can afford it and all earned their money themselves, unlike a certain other family!

I didn’t like the meanness of the comments on the other thread - on both sides! We need a code of conduct on this one where people say “I respectfully disagree” and move on, I’m saying that as a republican! This is part and parcel of the problem of having anyone represent a nation, maybe people should instead think there’s someone for everyone in the Royals - if you like glamour, then MM, if you like meek, then Anne, and so on. I don’t think there’s any point in ignoring the problems of that thread, as it’s only going to be like this forever!

Notmyrealname855 · 21/02/2019 17:04

Was also going to say that the queen and Camilla look quite summery! Very cheery going into spring

AFifthOfKoolAid · 21/02/2019 17:17

Princess Anne, meek?!?

Notmyrealname855 · 21/02/2019 17:30

Hmm how would you describe her though?! I really like her so trying to think of the right word... no nonsense?!

Notmyrealname855 · 21/02/2019 17:33

Oooohhh let’s turn it around so we’re positive about all of them :)

Queen - living legend
Philip - erm living legend? He has done some very good schemes (DoE) and some of his jokes are funny
Charles - he likes saving old houses and giving young people opportunities
Camilla - managed a PR somersault, people have warmed a lot to her
Edward and Sophie seem nice
William and Kate are basically head boy and girl
Harry and Meghan can be a bit naughtier/ more casual
The others are fine... I’ve run out of royals Blush

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/02/2019 17:34

Some describe her as being like her father who "doesn't suffer fools", but that's an expression generally used for wealthy people who are incredibly rude and irascible!

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/02/2019 17:51

Back to fashion now and, for a change, male royal fashion. Prince Daniel's combination of polo neck under a double breasted suit makes me think he's been cast as the villain in the next Bond film!

OP posts:
AFifthOfKoolAid · 21/02/2019 18:02

No-nonsense is good for Anne!

Head Boy/Girl for Will and Kate is perfect Grin

Philip- racist granddad.

Eugenie - the gal you'd love to be your friend

rosewater20 · 21/02/2019 18:02

MM looked great in all of the photos from the shower. That being said, I found the entire thing to be very poor optics on her part. She would have known that this was going to attract a lot of press attention and if she had wanted her shower to remain private, she would not have done it in the middle of New York City while staying at a luxury hotel. I do not think surrounding yourself with celebrity friends who seem desperate for press attention is a great move either — and wearing a hat to promote a friends TV show...just no.

The taxpayer might not have paid for the cost of that shower but we did pay for the security, and I am sure it didn't come cheap.

Notmyrealname855 · 21/02/2019 18:06

I think KM actually was head girl at her school! I like them being head boy and head girl, safe pair of hands. H and M just need to find their stride. Anne seems no nonsense! I’d love to have her as a friend :)

Daniel looks like a villain but I secretly love him for helping Victoria when she was ill Star and love her for being open about eating disorders, and as a young woman in the lead role Star

Eugenie seems very sweet, I bet her and her husband are great fun

7salmonswimming · 21/02/2019 18:15

Last comment in MM then moving on: I wasn’t suggesting the baby shower would be featured in HB. I was suggesting that HB will have done an interview with her (undoubtedly glowing, pretty, feminine, lots of emphasis on her humanitarian and charitable work blah blah), with photo shoot done in that hotel suite, and will have paid for the use of it. The shower will have happened there (perhaps not in that suite) after/before. Point being HB will have paid for it, not the RF/taxpayers/friends. The deal would have been done in language like “we’d be delighted to contribute to xyz cause, in return for access. Oh, of course, The Park is a great idea! Is there anything else we can do to help make this happen?” and so forth.

Whether or not the article is run remains to be seen. It’s entirely possible HB get shafted and it’s pulled, or postponed.

PineapplePower · 21/02/2019 18:17

Critical when she doesn't hire a private jet for her mum to attend a baby shower (apparently)

Don’t misunderstand me. I just think it was odd her mum didn’t attend. I do think it was more of an event with her celeb friends and less a traditional American baby shower.

She did look good, better turned out than at her UK events.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/02/2019 18:24

I find it hard to believe that she'd do even that tbh. I don't know where the story about Harper's getting an interview even began because there was nothing about it online.

And re choosing nyc - maybe that was what Meghan wanted! A trip to a big city to see all her friends. Why should she hide away in the countryside? It's not like she doesn't pull her weight in terms of
royal duties- she's done loads since she got engaged, maybe she felt like a city break!

And her cap wasn't to promote her friend's latest show - it was a show her friend starred in years ago. Pretty hard to promote a show that's no longer on the air! Maybe it was just one she had lying around!
