Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

Clothes.

user1457017537 · 20/02/2019 16:48

Well I have to disagree style is also how you conduct yourself and the manner in which you do it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 16:51

75k a night is ridiculous! I can't imagine what they could offer that would make that worth it. But I'm guessing if Serena Williams hired it then they'll offer her some sort of discount on the basis of being a sleb. But still!

Then again it's the Daily Mail and we know what their agenda is so they could even be making the price up!

I just thought it was very staged- Meghan really smiling at the photographers, whereas Kate / Pippa in that situation just don't engage. I couldn't put my finger on it but from this thread now I understand that Harper's is involved.
She really needs to listen to good PR advice.
Why couldn't she have a nice baby shower in a rented private home rather than all this farcical 'circus' outside hotels/ restaurants and museums/ galleries ?
I just don't think it's behaviour that will endear Meghan to the Queen and her ilk.
If Ralph Lauren has a Polo restaurant branch in Chicago I think I was there a few years ago. Great for people watching.

MakeItAmazing · 20/02/2019 16:54

Hello everyone .

Some of this thread is lovely to read. Thank you.

I'm behind everyone else but I've just watched the second Jeremy Paxman programme about the Queen's children. One commentator said about Prince Edward filming William at university yet another programme I watched said that had all been made up, along with some other royal stories I can't remember now. Who does one believe?

itswinetime · 20/02/2019 17:05

I think I remember the documentary you are talking about was it the same one who said that Charles leaked info on William and Camillias first meeting ect? I can't remember it exactly but I think the documentary said the Edwards team did. Stay but they weren't trying to film William just in the general area so I think the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

BlingLoving · 20/02/2019 17:07

I just looked up the Mark's suites. Now, hers might be extra super special, but when I did a little search for a few nights in march, the most expensive one was $3336 per night for a two bedroom suite.

It's the daily mail people. They. make. shit. up.

Having said all that, a suite for a few days, plus flowers, butler, food (catering for say 20 people) etc, could probably rack up the bill pretty damn quickly. But please, let's not jump to conclusions re $75k per night....

Notmyrealname855 · 20/02/2019 17:13

Lol the hotel markets itself as “NY’s most boldly lavish hotel”. Relatable. The penthouse suite is listed as €75k (base) on third party sites. I’m refusing to click on the DM as trying to be sanctimonious :)

AFifthOfKoolAid · 20/02/2019 17:31

I'm sure Kate and the Middletons stay at the St Bart's version of Premier Inn when they go on their annual jolly.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 17:34

Let's face it, there's nothing the royals do better than spend money. Hell, in the last couple of week Kate must've easily spent 75k on those two gowns, evil frog dress and bespoke D&G suit!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 17:35

That's a bit extravagant @AFifthOfKoolAid, surely they do Airbnb?

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 17:36

Re the Paxman programme, was that it or is there another episode tonight?

Paradyning · 20/02/2019 17:36

Ah come on. There is no way that they will be paying the market rate. Look at all the free publicity they are getting. That is priceless.

ElspethFlashman · 20/02/2019 17:39

They don't stay at a hotel at all. They rent a holiday home.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 20/02/2019 17:40

A timeshare, I bet.

Skirmisher · 20/02/2019 17:47

“NY’s most boldly lavish hotel”.

I have decided 'boldly lavish' means there are naked models painted in edible gold leading lion cubs around on dog leads.

Notmyrealname855 · 20/02/2019 17:57

Well as long as they’re all equally bad! I’m a republican so Grin Was keen to see what modernising the monarchy means, but obviously it’s Mustique and “boldly lavish”. Same old same old :)

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 18:00

I'm a republican too and would happily see the back of the lot of them. Unfortunately I don't think they're going anywhere but I'm happy to criticise them equally!

OP posts:
Notmyrealname855 · 20/02/2019 18:00

I think boldly lavish at a baby shower = the piñata’s filled with diamonds

Thedarklady · 20/02/2019 18:04

Do wish it had been a private, smaller and less lavish affair. However, I doubt it costs what the DM are saying it does. Her friends probably arranged the event for her. I agree with user that it's probably comped or heavily reduced.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 20/02/2019 18:09

That's the thing though, they don't get equal criticism, not on here and not in general. I don't remember Mumsnet threads slagging off Kate for getting her maternity wardrobe so wrong when she was foolish enough to go out in a flimsy dress that blew up on the wind. Or for wearing expensive clothes by racist, homophobic designers. Or for her luxury holidays in wealthy company. (Though I'm also remembering a story about the Cambridges on an easyJet flight?! I wonder if they paid for speedy boarding).

I love both Queen Kate and the Duchess of Success, even though I'd rather not have a royal family at all. I don't remember a series of MN royal threads that filled up in a matter of days before the advent of Meghan, so she's clearly got a) her fans and a) people pressed.

Notmyrealname855 · 20/02/2019 18:10

I’d like the monarchy wound down after the queen has gone. People like to focus on something so in her place we should have a representative from one charity a year taking any diplomatic ceremonial place she had, and promote a new cause each year (you could theme them so there’s variety). The problem with any lifelong post is this sort of numbness to normality, and any philanthropic gesture by them looks pretty hollow. It’s pretty stupid having a bunch of millionaires/ billionaires raising awareness to causes they could entirely prop up. Going to give myself a Biscuit for being a difficult thing :)

ElspethFlashman · 20/02/2019 18:16

Ah no, Kate was ripped to shit for her bottom baring antics.

I mean, she kept on wearing bloody thongs whilst wearing very short flippy dresses! In windy conditons! It was embarrassing. I was sick of the sight of her arse at one point.

But those days appear to be pretty gone, thank god. But yeah she was fair game when that stuff happened.

And personally I think her gucci/D&G day last week was as tone deaf as it comes. I was pretty contemptuous of that.

MakeItAmazing · 20/02/2019 18:20

itswinetime , yes, I think it was that one. I wish people would just tell the truth.
