Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

AFifth definitely definitely need balance! Especially on Kate’s two dresses - still can’t believe outlets didn’t pick up on that. But my hopes for MM being cool/ normalish are dying :( her failsafe route would be to sack her stylist (who tbh is making a beautiful woman too often wear badly fitting clothes), and carry on doing small public events. She’s never going to win again DM commentators, but there are lots of ways of starving them of oxygen too. Hiring that PR guy was a bad move, there’s nothing sassy enough you can say or do to win against the DM and its kind. Being a royal is just a very slow slow marathon, proving to people that you’re dedicated. It doesn’t come overnight and sadly is undermined by shows of extravagance like this. Those DM commentators used to rip into Kate all the time! The biggest favour Kate ever got was have MM on the scene as a decoy.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 20/02/2019 19:13

Why did you think an actress who ran a lifestyle blog about her penchant for lovely expensive things would be normal, though?

I'd understand it if she previously worked in Safeway and liked hanging around All Bar One and buying homeware from Primark, but I don't think that was ever her. I am not sure where these expectations that she's failing to match up to came from..

AFifthOfKoolAid · 20/02/2019 19:23

Also being a royal is all about extravagance. Have you seen the queen's bling, clothes and cars? And Princess Margaret? And Camilla? And the York sisters? Meghan is doing nothing unusual if we're talking about how much royals blow on fripperies.

MakeItAmazing · 20/02/2019 19:34

Queen the Paxman programme was on a week or so ago I think.

queenofarles · 20/02/2019 19:51

Why did you think an actress who ran a lifestyle blog about her penchant for lovely expensive things would be normal, though? I agree koolaid , honestly it doesn’t bother me how much they are spending.

But I really find it strange how it was all publicly displayed, Every move was /is being reported by Harpers Bazaar. Looked like it was something Kris Jenner, and not RF memeber would do.

LovingLola · 20/02/2019 20:02

So her late mother in law -who was the arch manipulator of the media -was not a member of the Royal Family then ???

LovingLola · 20/02/2019 20:04

She would be more a Kris Jenner ??? Grin

itswinetime · 20/02/2019 20:24

In meghans defence though she has tried the keep a low profiles just do the 'job' thing and she's still being slated. I can't blame her for trying something different. And in terms of being 'normal' I actually think Kate was more normal pre William than Meghan pre Harry she made no secret of liking the finer things. If she changed completely a whole different lot of people would be complaining she is loose loose from what I can see.

I think the paxman documentary was a 2 parter so it's all done.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 20:32

Wasn't Meghan in nyc for 3 days before the press got wind? Surely if she was after publicity she would've alerted them right from the start?

Anyone watching the Brits? Beyoncé and JayZ just accepted their award with a pre-recorded message... they were standing in front of a photoshopped image of MM with a crown on her head 😄

AFifthOfKoolAid · 20/02/2019 21:01

Just came here to say that, Gooseygirl! The Duchess of Success keeps slaying x

Notmyrealname855 · 20/02/2019 21:05

How is that slaying?!

AFifthOfKoolAid · 20/02/2019 21:06

Yea she probably orchestrated it with the press for attention.

VanillaSugarr · 20/02/2019 21:25

Hi, if you want to slag off Meghan repeatedly then please feel free to start your own threads.

I was on a thread the other day that had zero to do with Meghan in any way and someone still managed to make a bitchy post about her on it.

People who don't know her say more about themselves than her with their comments

VanillaSugarr · 20/02/2019 21:30

Queen Elizabeth in a lovely red suit

7salmonswimming · 20/02/2019 21:39

I think it’s a cultural thing. For Brits, this is all grossly distasteful. Flashy and look-at-me.

For Americans, it’s completely normal. HB will have paid for the hotel, a bespoke deal will have been done. All the flowers and whatnot delivered yesterday will have been paid for by them. Expect to see them featured in the photo shoot, which will have taken place in this suite.

Friends will have turned up to the party today, enjoyed the jolly on someone else’s tab. They will have paid for some stuff themselves, but very modest amounts relative to what HB is paying. Perhaps food, a cake, some avocados and turmeric tea saucer of milk!

It’s very tawdry, as it’s all about money. Imagine your baby shower being sponsored by a brand. Exposing your pregnancy (your first one, at that) to a magazine in return for favourable PR. It’ll all be very Oprah (minus the humility), and fall flat on its face in the UK. The Americans will lap it up, the girl next door married to an English prince.

If Doria doesn’t show, she’ll be a far wiser woman than any of the rest of them.

Gooseysgirl · 20/02/2019 21:45

Here's the regal MM... I can't believe she had anything to do with it though!!!

BartonHollow · 20/02/2019 21:46

Is it definitely being featured in Harper's Bazaar? I find that so unlikely really.

Peter Phillips sold his wedding to Hello of course but I understood that a ban on :

"That sort of thing"

Was initiated afterwards as it was considered a mistake by all involved

LovingLola · 20/02/2019 21:48

So do MN posters think the queen’s granddaughter- Zara Tindall - is flashy and ‘look at me’?? After all she is the brand ambassador for Landrover and ICandy. And horror of horrors - one of her 2nd daughter’s first public outings was being in an ad.
I would think neither the Queen or Princess Anne give a flying fuck.

VanillaSugarr · 20/02/2019 21:50

Only 18 pages left...

ElspethFlashman · 20/02/2019 21:52

Well supposedly the baby shower gift to the attendees is a pice of luggage by the very sponsorship friendly Insta-brand "Away".

Amazing publicity for the brand - 17 cases emblazoned with the logo being wheeled past the photographers.

Suspect there was a huuuuuuuuge discount there, if she paid anything at all. Away are BIG on gifting. I don't think any influencer has ever paid for a piece of Away luggage.

BartonHollow · 20/02/2019 21:52

I think it's understood that Zara and Peter don't necessarily have to uphold protocol and gift rules in the same way as Charles, his children and spouses particularly as they are not titled. Any former Olympian can be offered product endorsement opportunities.

Even Eugenie is allowed to keep her private Instagram as she is not a working royal
