Previous thread

And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

It's called Style and Gossip. Gossip is 100% allowed. I'm reporting the reports. This trip is an unusual situation which is outside of the RF wheelhouse.

Personally I think it's never wise to reveal your hotel to anyone, for security reasons. But I don't know if I have much of an opinion beyond that. It is what it is.

VanillaSugarr · 20/02/2019 14:03

Ilove that Caroline Herrera dress.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 14:07

Omid Scobie is the royal reporter for Harpers so pretty much like Richard Kay or Rebecca English. The photos in Harpers just look like press photos rather than a posed photo shoot though.

@Paradyning The sunglasses were available in black on Net-a-Porter this morning but have since sold out :( Oh well, I'd have probably lost them anyway!

Wow curly you are quick! I was just coming to post that but you got here before me. I love Letizia's whole outfit here, but especially the shoes.

I also love Meghan's outfit with the buttoned coat, she really can get it right when she's in her comfort zone. Does anyone know what the bag is? I read Carolina Herrera but haven't found a link/ name

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 14:27

Charlotte from Mad About Meghan has a very balanced take on the trip to NYC and the shower. She makes the good point that once the press found out Meghan was staying at the hotel, maybe the most sensible course of action for her was to let them get a couple of photos of her leaving the hotel in exchange for them leaving her alone afterwards.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 14:28

@TotallyAnonymousUsername it's this bag

BlingLoving · 20/02/2019 14:30

Except they didn't leave her alone. have you seen he videos being shot through the windows of a restaurant? It was horrible. It looks like the staff realise what was happening and get her to move seats but honestly, I think it's horrendous.

Once things leaked, I think the barriers etc all make sense and can be done quickly - especially at a hotel that's used to handling celebrity guests. And for Meghan to then try to hide is a bit pointless. But I suspect she's furious because her city break is being disrupted. Hopefully she's just grateful that she got a few days first.

LaurenOrdering · 20/02/2019 14:32

Queen you beat me to it!

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 14:34

That's horrible @BlingLoving, and so intrusive. I can't believe that she'd deliberately orchestrate something like that, how would it benefit her?

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 20/02/2019 14:35

That article sums up the situation pretty well, I think. But still there are people, including some on these threads, who will try to put Meghan in a negative light.

I loved her look and especially the CH handbag.

VanillaSugarr · 20/02/2019 14:37

queen - will you name the next thread Royal Style and Reverance or something, to stop the Megh8ers?

Thanks!!

BlingLoving · 20/02/2019 14:39

@queen - exactly. I just don't see it. I think a lot of people have a weird view of how media work and the way those in the spotlight interact with the media. I see no benefit for her. And I haven't figured out if she IS doing a Harpers Bazaar shoot, but I can't help wondering if she IS doing it, is what allowed Omid to find out she was in town and then attempt to track her down so that he can "break" the story. Which would make me pretty furious with HB myself.

LaurenOrdering · 20/02/2019 14:53

I suspect one of Meghan's friends is one of 'The Loose Lips Sink Ships' brigade

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/02/2019 15:05

I'm a bit surprised at Harpers tbh as I thought they considered themselves a cut above the likes of the tabloids. But of course once they broke the story then it was a paparazzi free for all.

Thank you (both) for the bag link! New bag to covet I think Grin

Changing the subject completely I came across this article earlier www.refinery29.com/en-us/2012/06/33359/kate-middleton-beauty-routine Honestly, I can't imagine how it's accurate because it is pretty much all guesswork but it did name some products and I realised I hadn't really considered the cost of the hair/ beauty regime before

Notmyrealname855 · 20/02/2019 16:17

This is very reminiscent of the engagement photos and the £56k dress. Yes you might have the money, but it’s tone deaf when you are supposed to represent a nation where so many are struggling right now.

Really, totally get why you’d want a baby shower. Must be a lovely time and nice to do it in America (easier for her friends).

But. Why would you book a hotel in central NY, and greet everyone at the main hotel entrance rather than just at your room door? And at $75k a night? That is literally obscene. Is her mum invited or is this just a “sleb” event? Just remind me how this is this extreme show of schmaltz and expense is modernising the royal family?

Really thought MM would pitch herself as being more relatable and more about the messages she supposedly promotes. And yes I’m sure the royals all secretly spend thousands like pennies but they usually don’t do it so flagrantly, and yes I’d hold her to a higher standard as gasp she seemed more normal and think we all had high hopes for her. There is so little relatable or admirable about this, it’s such a big own goal.

Notmyrealname855 · 20/02/2019 16:18

Sorry for the rant, but hoped MM would be more of an ambassadorial type and it seems she really just always wanted the celebrity bit :( let down

DontCallMeCharlotte · 20/02/2019 16:24

What the hell are they are offering for £75k per night?!

LaurenOrdering · 20/02/2019 16:28

According to the DM (sorry about the link) Serena Williams is footing the bill: www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6724981/Serena-Williams-Amal-Clooney-host-baby-shower-Meghan-Markle-75K-penthouse.html

Notmyrealname855 · 20/02/2019 16:29

Champagne baths?!

Skirmisher · 20/02/2019 16:32

£75k a night!

Wowzers, three nights accommodation in that hotel is worth more than the value of my flat. I can't imagine any kind of luxury worth that sum, even if it involved a Jason Momoa lookalike private butler telling me I was the most beautiful women in the world.

TheCraicDealer · 20/02/2019 16:32

Well, to be fair DontCallMeCharlotte it does have five bedrooms. Wink

I'm with you on this Notmyrealname855- it's more than a bit tone deaf, regardless of whether they have the cash or who foots the bill. It just doesn't seem like a plan you'd go with if you were genuinely trying to be low key and discrete.

user1457017537 · 20/02/2019 16:44

I doubt very much if anyone is paying for the hotel suite. It has probably been comped or seriously reduced. I think it is inadvisable though if you are Royal, after all there is no such thing as a free lunch. MM is not going to be discreet and loves being a celebrity.
