Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

I'm getting really bored of using my nuface and have dropped out of the routine already. It's such a pain in the arse slathering myself in cold gel every night! I can feel a return coming on.......

princessTiasmum · 17/02/2019 10:09

I have just sold mine on ebay, doesnt seem to be making any difference, although my previous nu face mini, seemed to, fed up of wasting money on these gadgets, they are not strong enough to do anything much imo,and i used it every night,

countrygirl171 · 17/02/2019 10:10

Hello - I was just looking for some advice. I've had a few problems with my skin becoming very sensitive over the last 9 months, I think from damaging the skin barrier by overusing products. I'm happy with my current skincare routine but I feel like my skin is very dry, make up is clinging to little dry patches etc. It doesn't feel tight though. Could anyone recommend anything that I could introduce to my routine to help with this... Or if there's anything else I seem to be missing...I'm 36. Thank you.

So I'm currently using:

AM
REN evercalm gentle cleansing gel
REN evercalm anti-redness serum
REN global protection day cream or REN glow daily vitamin c gel cream
LRP anthelios sun protection

PM
REN evercalm gentle cleansing gel
REN evercalm gentle cleansing
REN evercalm anti-redness serum
REN global protection day cream or REN bio-retinoid anti-ageing cream

Thank you.

country, unless you're very oily and really in need of a cleanse I'd swap out the morning cleanse for just tepid water (with or without a flannel/muslin). If that makes no difference you can look into incorporating a hydrating serum.

You may also want to swap out your first cleanse in the evening (or cut out completely if you're not wearing a water resistant make up/heavy make up) with an oil cleanser as this depletes the skin of water less than water based cleansers.

Hmm Nuface us not coming out well, how long exactly are you all using it now?

As a result I'm now pondering the benefits of Ziip beauty which is nano current (like CACI) but a pricier investment (in comparison to the Nuface mini) and looks like a PITA to use.

countrygirl171 · 17/02/2019 10:26

Thank you. I will try this. Are there any hydrating serums that you recommend? Thank you.

SallieSallow · 17/02/2019 11:22

Country as you like Ren and know it suits your skin I’d have a look at their serums, they seem to do a couple of facial oils too.

I’ve not seen any results with nuface but I’m only couple of weeks in so wouldn’t expect to. I started it around the same time as this thread which is a handy way of keeping track.

I’ve got used to doing it and it doesn’t seem a chore, it absolutely did last time round when I was trying to do the enhanced routine with all the lifts etc, but I can cope with 5 mins in the morning. I’m in a different situation though as I bought and abandoned mine a couple of years ago so with no MBG I might as well plod on.

I got a tip from Hot and Flashy to leave your face wet after washing then you don’t need much gel at all and it can be re-activated by wetting your face either with water or a thermal spray. I think slathering on gel last time caused some of my issues (itching and spots) but I seem to be ok this time round, though I’m not using the gel that came with it.

GrimDamnFanjo · 17/02/2019 11:28

Popping as I'm off to the US this week. I've already got Cerave PM on my list to bulk buy- anything else worth brining back at the moment?
I'm really cross that you can't view the US Sephora site in the UK so my research had been a bit hampered!

SallieSallow · 17/02/2019 11:42

Grim you can get cerave pm here now in Boots, it’s not called PM but the ingredients are exactly the same and it’s not too pricey so you might want to save space in your suitcase for something else Grin

The Sephora thing annoys me too as I like reading reviews on there, I get round it with a VPN, I use tunnel bear. It’s free if you just want to use it occasionally for web browsing.

mintmagnummm · 17/02/2019 12:59

Sallie have you started using your timeless vit c? How are you getting on with it?

I haven't used my Clinique ttdo balm for a while now and have realised this was causing irritation to my eyes! They are still watery and naturally easily irritated but it's definitely reduced!

GrimDamnFanjo · 17/02/2019 13:28

@sallie thanks for this - I'd not noticed Cerave had extended the range!
will try tunnel bear x

Tsmummy08 · 17/02/2019 13:55

Sallie THANK YOU for Tunnel Bear!!!! I have a friend coming over from Seattle in a couple of weeks and she asked me yesterday what she could bring over, now I can order a couple of bits for her suitcase :) I'd hug you if I could!

SallieSallow · 17/02/2019 14:42

I love tunnel bear - he’s super cute too as you can watch him ‘tunnelling’ to where you want to be ie the US for Sephora. You can use him for streaming and downloading too (if you wanted to watch bbc iPlayer on your hols abroad for eg) but you have to pay for that.

Mint so far I really like the timeless Vit c, I actually prefer the texture to the medik8 one as it’s thinner & more watery. Too early to see any results though (only used a few days) or to know if it will cause irritation or itching, no issues at all so far but it sometimes takes a while for that to start, I’ve been caught out before thinking I’m fine and then suddenly want to claw my face off!

I’ve also finally started using the simple cleansing oil, no issues with that either it’s just a very bland innocuous oil (and doesn’t smell funny like the Una Brennan one!) so perfect for a first cleanse. It doesn’t irritate my eyes at all but think yours are more sensitive than mine - it’s only about £3 though so worth a try.

SallieSallow · 17/02/2019 14:49

Disclaimer with regards to tunnel bear - not sure if he’ll get round the issue of placing an order or not, as Sephora may no longer accept U.K. credit or debit cards, I’ve never actually bought anything. But you can at least mooch on the website and read reviews etc.

princessTiasmum · 17/02/2019 15:36

botemp i have been using nu face for about 2 years, and initially had a nu face mini, which i thought made a difference, but it packed up eventiually, i actually bought it off ebay, second hand so it lasted well really, but i have not noticed any difference with the nu face trinity, in fact my jowls look worse to me, which is why i have sol;d it,, and it was brand new,
The ball contacts are bigger on the trinity, and i only have a small face so maybe it was working the wrong areas
The demo video seemed to show the ladys eyebrow lifting first time it was shown ,but that cant be right, the current isnt strong enough to do that

SallieSallow · 17/02/2019 16:27

Princess it really pees me off that the nuface demo videos give the impression you’ll see instant results Angry just be honest FFS as it’s ultimately only going to lead to more returns for them.

Enid there’s an Elemis today’s special value set on qvc today, not sure it it will be of any interest but might be worth having a look on their website as they often have other offers on TSV day.

RuggyPeg · 17/02/2019 17:25

Grim - YES!!!!! QRXlabs sell their strongest acids and peels in America, where they're not allowed to in the UK. Have a look at otc retinols too. Not sure if you can buy tretinoin OTC in America but if you can, get stocked up on that too!

mintmagnummm · 17/02/2019 19:05

Thanks Sallie I'll keep fingers crossed it doesn't cause any irritation or itching in the long run, keep me posted please if you don't mind.
That's also good about the simple cleansing oil, will consider that one 👍🏻

Pupsiecola · 17/02/2019 22:27

Very happy with my fillers. Exactly what I was aiming for. Just a softening of the marionette lines and a few lines above my top lip (not in the lips as I have very full lips - she did it above and side on and OMFG that stung, even with numbing cream), and what was left in tear troughs. Very happy and got a bit of a spring in my step.

RuggyPeg · 17/02/2019 22:52

Pupsie - fantastic 👍 Did the cheeks and tear troughs hurt?

EnidButton · 17/02/2019 23:26

Pupsie Brilliant! Is it an instant results thing or does it take a few days to settle in?

Sallie Thank you for the Elemis heads up. No more beauty spending for me this month (being good this year Grin) but I'll have a look anyway. Flowers And Tunnel Bear! Who knew?! So handy.

Pupsiecola · 17/02/2019 23:35

The tear troughs I didn't even feel. She got in lower downa and then up at an angle slightly because you have to be extremely careful of the orbital bone.

It's instant. I'm pretty sure with botox you have to wait a few days to see the full results but with fillers it's instant (which makes sense if you think what they both do). I have had a small bruise to the left of my mouth which looks like a soot smudge. A little bit of swelling but all find now.

I was a bit scared of course, even though I had done my research. Not sure I ever imagined I'd have fillers in my younger days. But then I didn't realise how I would feel once I hit late 40s. I said to her I guess people don't bother with injectables when they're 60+ and she said on the contrary they do, and that she has one client in her 80s.

RuggyPeg · 17/02/2019 23:53

My friend had fillers and Botox for the first time at 68. Her results were fantastic and completely and utterly undetectable.

EnidButton · 17/02/2019 23:58

All sounds really good Pups!

Sallie TB is fab u lous! Just had a nice browse on Sephora and remembered how good their reviews are when trying to find something. Slightly sad about all the "exclusive" stuff we can't buy but feels good to be able to browse again.

Still annoyed at them for being lazy feckers and blocking an entire country overnight but anyway

SallieSallow · 18/02/2019 08:40

Thanks for the update Pupsie sounds great. I guess my issue with fillers is I'm not sure where they'd go to give me the results I want. Studying the pre-nuface selfies I took, my marionette lines are not actually that bad, it's more that my mouth droops down and I have sagging between my lips and chin/jaw rather than nose to lips. But I guess a good practioner would discuss all that with me.
