Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Thank you so much Mint you are a star! I just realised though that I never told you my real name - my postie will be wondering who on earth Sallie Sallow is Grin Grin Grin

mintmagnummm · 25/04/2019 14:02

😂😂 I just put Sallie on the front I didn't put Sallow ha ha

YesQueen · 26/04/2019 12:49

Today's makeup products! I was watching Hannah Martin on insta and she did a lovely soft bridal makeup with smudged liner so I gave it a go

Queen, I've been meaning to ask, have you been seduced into buying one of those spinning brush cleaner gadgets?

OP posts:
mintmagnummm · 26/04/2019 13:01

Queen send us a pic once you have finished make up

YesQueen · 26/04/2019 13:18

@botemp no - I don't think long term they're good for brushes. I do have a ridged silicone pad which I use for cleaning when they're really mucky!

TantricTwist · 27/04/2019 15:54

Thanks Enid I will try again (although I clearly do not have the knack) I'm going to attempt again today and see how it goes with my RT brush and a beauty blender.

I used REN wake wonderful night-time facial a couple of nights ago and my skin look visibly refreshed, glowing, clear and plump the next morning. I tried it again last night and again it looked visibly transformed so it wasn't just a fluke the first time. This stuff is great for my skin. Whereas REN V-cence revitalising cream made no difference.

CJDoesTheJackal · 27/04/2019 17:09

Does someone here use an exfoliating body lotion? I'm sure I vaguely remember...

TantricTwist · 27/04/2019 20:43

Enid The beauty blender made a huge difference I'm so impressed. I used one that was quite soft and it was dampened first. My DD did it for me after I used my RT brush to apply my foundation first, which was just my Rimmel Match perfection, and she just kind of dabbed the sponge over it. As she was given her blender we have no idea what make it is so I can't buy my own, she said I shouldnt buy a harder one.

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 05:25

Oh that's good Tant! Glad it worked. I much prefer soft blenders.

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 05:26

If you do want your own, post a pic of the blender, me or Queen might know which make it is,

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 05:26

^or anyone else who uses them. Smile

NiceUnusualDifferent · 28/04/2019 07:53

I use the nanshy beauty blender, lovely and soft.

Annunciata333 · 28/04/2019 09:30

I used to use the official/original beauty blender but it’s about £15 and I kept losing them when I was travelling so started buying dupes from amazon for around £5 and they’re just as good IMO and all nice and soft.

CJD I think Bo was maybe using an exfoliating body lotion but can’t remember the details.

SallieSallow · 28/04/2019 09:37

Sorry that post above is me ^^^ I name changed for another thread and forgot to change back Blush definitely want to keep Sallie for S&B especially as I’ve had post addressed to that name now Grin

Azura2019 · 28/04/2019 11:24

Hi ladies, please could you recommend me a retinol face cream with spf?
I've used LRP Redermic R but there's no SPF in it so need another option.
It's minefield out there..

botemp · 28/04/2019 11:34

Azura, Retinol needs to be used at night, it becomes unstable and gets destroyed by light. You need to use a separate standalone SPF with it during the day. Have a read through the retinol guide linked in the OP for more info.

CJ, technically the Eucerin Urea 10% body lotion has keralytic properties which is what I usually use. Currently I'm using prescription tret on my body and using a PHA gel with the Tripollar but I'll be following it up with a glycolic body lotion, I had intended getting the Neostrata 15% one as it came in around the same price as the one from Alpha Skincare recommended by hot and flashy (as it comes from the US) which is slightly more product but lower percentage at 12, currently Amazon.com had a 20% off Alpha skincare offer so I ended up ordering that as it came in a lot cheaper and under the VAT import threshold, in total it was 21€ delivered (Vs €33 not delivered for the Neostrata but it's cheaper in the UK). The more expensive Neostrata body lotion also looks interesting which has PHA in as well but I think it's meant for mature skin.

Thank you, Botemp, will have a read of the guide.

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 14:51

Discussed before in here but you know my memory is next to useless. Is anyone actually regularly using a facial roller? As in one of those fancy jade or rose quartz ones? Do you like it, does it do anything or is it just a nice thing to do?

I used to use the body shop knobbly facial roller and quite liked it for a massaging feeling. I have TMJ on one side from clenching my teeth at night so it felt good first thing.

I think the coldest of a stone one could be good for depicting a bit. I'm not into the woo side of crystals etc so any claims on that front don't interest me. Just wondering about trying one. Plus you know me, I like the fancy look of them casually left out on the dressing table of sink...Blush

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 14:55

I was admiring the fancy name Sallie Grin

SallieSallow · 28/04/2019 16:06

Enid I had a jade facial roller and liked it, nice and cooling and I did find it relaxing, but absolutely no idea where it is now Blush

I name changed for posting on the bereavement board as for some reason it felt a bit wrong to be talking about loss and makeup/skincare under the same name - all turned out to be a bit pointless though as I keep mixing them up!

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 16:20

Understandable Sallie. You can ask MN to delete the one up thread if you want to keep the two separate, they'll def understand. Flowers

Promise I haven't seen your jade roller! Grin I like the look of the rose one. Thought I could put it in the fridge for Summer. Reminds me, I keep seeing beauty bloggers etc with mini fridges in their rooms just got nail polishes and skincare! So fancy 💅🏻

TantricTwist · 28/04/2019 16:55

This is the one. It's not quite symmetrical if that helps. It feels firm but soft and dense Confused

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 17:01

I don't recognise that one but I bet someone will. I like your nail polish!

mintmagnummm · 28/04/2019 17:20

The real techniques sponge is soft, I've used it for years
