Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Oh Sallie I am so sorry to hear such sad news, sending you a virtual hug. Look after yourself x

EnidButton · 06/04/2019 15:52

Sallie I'm so sorry for your loss and for all your family. It's the most stressful and confusing thing. Please take good care and be very kind to yourself. So very sorry. Flowers

SallieSallow · 06/04/2019 21:02

Thank you all Flowers Flowers Flowers ❤️❤️❤️

RuggyPeg · 07/04/2019 07:10

Sallie - I'm so sorry to hear about your dear mum. You have my deepest sympathies.

Ok, my poor skin is even worse this morning. It feels and looks like severe sunburn. Everything I'm putting on it, including Cerave, is burning and stinging. I guess I'm just going to have to wait a few days until it's all calmed down. I honestly think retriderm should be prescription only. My skin is so tough after years of using all this stuff and yet, just 2 days of using it is has created something that feels like a chemical burn. Ah well, you live n learn 😑 Serves me right really.

PositivelyPeach · 07/04/2019 14:48

So sorry to hear that Sallie Thanks sending you and your loved ones strength at this difficult time.

JDSTER · 07/04/2019 21:07

Dear Sallie so sorry to hear your mum has died. Such a difficult time Flowers

vaz119 · 08/04/2019 15:49

Sorry to hear about you mum Sallie x

botemp · 08/04/2019 19:20

Well I've ordered a Tripollar (for the body), should be here before Friday. Decided to pay extra for that, I assume you will all get an extension but just in case as I really don't want to suddenly be confronted with import and vat taxes on such a high priced item. I'll report back in a couple of months if it's any good.

JDSTER, how's your Nuface doing these days, will you keep it?

OP posts:
JDSTER · 08/04/2019 19:24

Doing ok with NuFace but I haven’t religiously used it every day for the two months, or whatever it is they suggest, so difficult to evaluate how good it is. I’m going to keep it.

SallieSallow · 08/04/2019 19:48

Thank you again everyone for your kind words Flowers

My poor old nuface, I don’t even know where it is! And I seem to have misplaced my Timeless Vit c too Confused

I’m still in between locations and have got a heck of a lot to sort out in both places so might be a while before I’ve got back into a routine (skincare or otherwise!) again. But I think I’ll definitely be looking into some cosmetic procedures once everything is back to some semblance of normal, I’ve lost weight (good) but the effect on my face and droopy jowls is certainly not good Sad

princessTiasmum · 08/04/2019 19:53

So sorry for the loss of your dear mum Sallie

EnidButton · 08/04/2019 20:08

I looked a bit haggard due to stress after my Dad went last year Sallie and after a few months my face/skin went back to normal again. Same when I lost a couple of stone, it kind of adjusted. I was very tempted to book a boob job after losing weight but they filled out again after a few months. No idea how or why. Maybe I just got lucky but I've seen others say the same.

EnidButton · 08/04/2019 20:08

Not that I'm saying you look haggard! Brew

SallieSallow · 08/04/2019 20:34

Thank you princess Flowers

Enid I most definitely do look haggard!! And the drooping is horrendous, partly down to weight loss but I think a lot of it is just due to stress and looking/feeling miserable, it’s like my face has ‘set’ like that now. But I’ll take your advice and give it some time - and of course you never know, the nuface might work a miracle - if I can ever locate it...

EnidButton · 08/04/2019 22:14

Some gentle basic self care is enough to help a bit. Even if it feels pointless sometimes. Take it slowly I think.

I'm just contemplating buying the Elemis cream-oil stuff, even though I know the ingredients don't hold up well on paper, I'm sure I looked brighter and less poorly when I used it every other night. Just wish it wasn't so overpriced. I have a £10 voucher to use and a free gift if I team up with my friend to push the order over £100 do we could divvy that up. Hmmm...

EnidButton · 08/04/2019 22:16

Sallie that first bit was to you. By basic self care I mean eating well, sleeping when you can etc as well as skincare. Just be gentle with yourself. Flowers

mintmagnummm · 09/04/2019 09:02

Enid try not to get too caught up on ingredients, if you like it and it made a difference to your skin then go for it. I've avoided certain products due to a 'bad ingredient' only to find out later down the line that my skin really got on with it! On the flip side I've also used products containing no known irritants or acne inducing ingredients which has actually broken me out and caused reactions! I now think it's a load of old bollocks, if you like something then don't worry about the ingredients that someone has said to avoid! (Unless of course it's certain things like parabens that a person chooses to not want to use themselves etc) hope that makes sense lol.

mintmagnummm · 09/04/2019 09:03

Been thinking of you Sallie x

Tsmummy08 · 09/04/2019 14:39

Sallie I've just seen your post, sending you lots of love at what is such a difficult time... grief and all the stresses of a loss (and what may come before) can definitely do a number on the whole body! Take care of yourself xx

Tsmummy08 · 09/04/2019 14:47

Feeling brave: I've added a before and after photo of my fillers - not a perfect result but I was advised that I wouldn't get one! I'm happy with what they've achieved, as even without makeup on I look much less tired. None of my friends has noticed or said anything so who knows. More than happy to answer any questions...

RuggyPeg · 09/04/2019 21:47

Oh, that's a pretty good result. Definitely an improvement. Did you just get tear troughs filled? When I saw my doc about them, he said I wouldn't get a great result without something in the mid face too, to bolster the whole droopy visage!

EnidButton · 10/04/2019 00:28

Looks good TS. Subtle but a definite difference when you see the pics next to each other like that. Looks very fresh.

I ordered the Elemis stuff. I like the scent of it and need something that feels a bit of a luxury atm. Helps my mood. Had a cracking migraine for the past 24hrs so now the codeine's kicking in I'm buying myself some treats. Grin

TantricTwist · 10/04/2019 02:10

TS there's a definite difference if you cover up one face to compare with the other rather than looking at them both together.

I think if no-one's mentioned it then that's a good thing, means it doesn't look weird, just a better version of yourself.

Tsmummy08 · 10/04/2019 10:44

Subtle is fine by me :) I think it looks better in real life, with normal lighting, and weirdly seems to change day by day - possibly depending on hydration? IDK... I might post an update in a couple more weeks when it should be "set" completely...

Ruggy yes just tear troughs, with a cannula (no bruising but uncomfortable procedure). was advised I had decent volume in my cheeks.. guess if they filled more under the eye I'd get the hamster cheek look! I can see myself going for it in a couple of years though!

EnidButton · 10/04/2019 16:22

By subtle I mean it's not that obvious 'done' look iykwim. There's definitely a clear difference comparing the two pics. Looks really good.
