Usual rules - say what you like about the clothes, keep it civil re the wearers.

Thanks Queen. Meghan is so glossy!

It’s a little conservative, but I really like this navy dress CP Mary wore for the armed forces reception

Paradyning · 04/01/2019 22:14

The results are in of the day/cocktail best dressed if anyone voted.

Here's the list that's been released today of the estimated costs of the royal wardrobes for 2018. Meghan needs to rein it in, it's actually disgusting.

  1. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex: £406,915.43 ($515,879.65)
  1. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark: £88,999.57 ($112,831.96)
  1. Sophie, Countess of Wessex: £73,570.41 ($93,271.17)
  1. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge: £68,334.23 ($86,632.84)
  1. Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway: £52,307.18 ($66,314.05)
  1. Princess Charlene of Monaco: £52,199.00 ($66,176.90)
  1. Queen Máxima of Netherlands: £48,338.20 ($61,282.25)
  1. Princess Beatrice of York: £47,859.10 ($60,674.86)
  1. Princess Marie of Denmark: £43,650.54 ($55,339.33)
  1. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden: £37,365.96 ($47,371.85)

  2. Queen Letizia of Spain: £36,075.78 ($45,736.19)

  3. Princess Eugenie of York: £31,860.80 ($40,392.52)

  4. Princess Sofia of Sweden: £26,452.73 ($33,536.27)

  5. Princess Madeleine of Sweden: £22,806.53 ($28,913.69)

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2019 22:46

Meghan's total includes her wedding gown, which is why it's so much higher than any of the others. I assume Kate and Mary etc would've had a similar figure the years they got married.

OP posts:
8misskitty8 · 04/01/2019 22:46

Does Meghan’s costings include her wedding dresses ?
She also has her own money so maybe payed for some of her outfits herself.

Wonder how much the queens outfits cost ? She never wears the same thing twice.

8misskitty8 · 04/01/2019 22:48

Kate was on maternity leave for a lot of the year so I would expect her clothing bill to be less than normal.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2019 22:52

Apparently Meghan's wedding dress was £387k! Kate's was £250k but that was back in 2011 so would probably cost a fair bit more today.

OP posts:
Ilovedotcotton · 04/01/2019 22:52

The article I read said that the total does NOT include Meghan’s wedding dress.

kooshbin · 04/01/2019 22:52

I think Meghan's costs include her wedding outfits. I know Eugenie is much lower down the list, but she doesn't undertake any royal duties, so presumably her costs are just for her wedding outfits.

Also, Meghan did a royal tour, which must bump the costs up quite a bit. Did any of the others near the top of the list do a royal tour?

Anyway, how did whoever it was compile these figures? Must be a lot of guesswork involved.

Paradyning · 04/01/2019 22:53

I thought they excluded the wedding dress costa for both MM and Eugenie.
They have scoured the back end of Twitter to get that article. Only geeks like us (me) would have known if its existence it's so obscure.

MotherofPearl · 04/01/2019 22:55

Why is Beatrice's total so much higher than Eugenie's? Does Eugenie's include her wedding dress? If so the discrepancy is even odder.

Paradyning · 04/01/2019 22:55

There's no way Vogue Williams isn't in on these pap shots

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2019 23:01

Ah wait, if it's this site it doesn't include the Givenchy gown, just the Stella M one, although the price it's now retailing for could be misleading. There's some uncertainty over some of her jewellery as it might've been a gift, but that would still mean over £200k was spent.

None of Eugenie's wedding outfits are included in her total either, and I suspect they cost a lot too.

OP posts:
queenofarles · 04/01/2019 23:01

The article clearly says the cost of the wedding dress is not included.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2019 23:02

And what's with the weird disclaimer about Rania? Would an obscure fashion blog really have discussions with the royal court in Jordan?

OP posts:
Paradyning · 04/01/2019 23:10

This was their source data. I think they did regenerate them so not a blatant rip off

ufonomore.com/blog/costs-2018

Cel982 · 04/01/2019 23:12

They only costed new outfits, AFAIK; at least half of the stuff Kate has worn this year was 'recycled' (you know, that clever DM term for wearing an outfit more than once Hmm) so not included, and I'd imagine it's the same for most of the royals. Only Meghan needed a full, brand new wardrobe this year.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2019 23:20

And I assume it's for all of 2018. Surely what Meghan wore before her wedding shouldn't count as she would've paid for it herself and/or got it at a heavy discount?

SenecaFalls · 05/01/2019 01:50

Speaking of wedding music, at Prince Joachim's first wedding, he entered to the Prince of Denmark's March. It's popular wedding music (we used it at our wedding as did Charles and Diana), but was especially fitting for Joachim.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 06:49

I would agree that’s Meghan has had to invest in a brand new Toyal wardrobe. I guess if you wanted a more accurate comparison, you would have to value their entire wardrobes at the price they paid for each dress, when new.
Kate’s would easily match the price of Meghan’s; probably outstrip it.

The problem is, Meghan has been making some expensive mistakes, which we will probably never see again. Kate’s wardrobe is expensive, but she has completely honed her style, so we will probably see 90% of her wardrobe reworn.
Her maternity clothes have been inexpensive, so she will have passed them on.
When Meghan has had the baby and got back to her normal weight, she should sit down with a seamstress and adjust her wardrobe; take up hems, some of the dresses she wore in early pregnancy could be adjusted; by taking in the seams
Angela Kelly, who dresses the Queen has her own couture house. Surely she could send a dressmaker over once Meghan is at Frogmore.
I know Meghan likes fashion, but we’re not talking high street, but even things like the vb coat on Xmas day. Was a classic navy but the sleeves were too short.
I cannot believe that they do not get their off the peg clothes at cost price. I bet they get given tonnes of handbags. In Hollywood, all the A listers get access to the gifting suite.
I hope in 2019, Jessica Mulroney fucks off. She dresses like an Essex girl and has done very well career wise in the US riding on Meghan’s coat tails.
Meghan looked very unsure on Christmas Day. She is still learning and is desperate to do the right thing. I really hope that Sophie takes her under her wing. She is a safe pair of hands. Meghan needs to take fashion advice from brits, not Americans. Every Claire Waight Keller outfit has been perfect ( but £££££s). Victoria Beckham clothes suit her, as long as they are not trailing on the ground ( but let’s face it; they are all designed by Roland Mouret).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 07:02

Just read the source data from @Paradyning
They included a £200k Cartier bracelet from Prince Charles; which has completely distorted the figure.
Also Meghan’s evening Stella McCartney dress, I have heard mixed valuations. On her wedding day, they said it was £80k but there is a retail version at £20k.
So it looks like Meghan’s wardrobe costs are less than £200k
Next year, they will be negligible as she will be on maternity leave, and probably return in the Autumn like Kate.
