Previous thread.

Usual rules - say what you like about the clothes, keep it civil re the wearers.

The Monegasque twins really are the last word in adorable @CurlyWurlyTwirly!

Popping up to share a picture of the queen as a guide and her sister as a Brownie (guide and browine leader here).

I stretched to the thread because the QM has fairly substantial heels for what I imagine in my head for the period AND a Kate style hat.

I was aghast at how good Pippa looks too, so soon after giving birth. I wondered where the baby was, but no doubt at home with the nanny! Has anyone seen the photos of Nicole Kidman on the beach at Christmas? She has the body of a very lithe 24 year old. Her face is a different matter...

Gosh those QM heels! Don’t usually think of QM & heels in a sentence.

mikado1 · 04/01/2019 19:15

James Middleton's new gf is 'gorgeous'? Really? Amazing figure yes. That photo is really odd, it reminds me of a Madonna and child! He looks massive and she, tiny!

Meanwhile, I am going to channel MM, as best I can, in forest green dress and rust coloured heels for a wedding this month, à la the Irish trip outfit!

Bloominglovely · 04/01/2019 19:22

James Middleton’s new girlfriend looks tiny. Kate and Pippa must feel like heavy giants beside her. When will this madness of being as small a human as possible just stop! I have daughters and this photo scares me!

I always think the QM was dowdy and frumpy despite the jewels.
She wasn't 'aristocratic' looking.
By that I mean when you look at the photographs of Countess this and Lady that in the 20's, 30's and 40's they had an air of sophistication about them. She doesn't.

It's a good job I'm not a British subject - it would be off to the Tower with me if I were. Smile

Clionba · 04/01/2019 19:46

Ah. Naughty Wallis referred to the QM as "that fat Scotch cook", for which QM (understandably) never forgave her.
QM thought "chic" was quite a cruel term.

AlsoBling2 · 04/01/2019 19:57

I really don't like Helena Bonham Carter but I always thought she was a brilliant choice for queen mum in the movie about the queens dad. She's not smooth, and classy but comes across as determined and charismatic.

AlsoBling2 · 04/01/2019 20:00

I'm also going to reiterate about good genes/fast metabolism because I find all the slightly snarky comments about Kate and Pippa being so thin because they palm the kids off and do nothing. Do none of you honestly have friends who have bounced back? Or believe some of the posters on this thread who said they did?! It really does happen for some women. Not necessarily effortless but not that hard. I am much bigger but I lost the pregnancy tummy pretty quickly myself.

They have domestic help, of course, but I don't believe for one minute they aren't very engaged hands on parents.

Quantumblue · 04/01/2019 20:05

Back to Sophie and her dad being so discreet. I think her brother sold his child's christening photos to Hello so there was a rocky start for Sophie there, even before the Fake Sheikh saga.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2019 20:07

Yes, apparently Wallis called the QM "Cookie" but that also alluded to the rumour that her parents' cook gave birth to her. Princess Marina also turned up her nose at her and referred to HM and PM as "those common little Scottish girls".

One hopes that the QM got on with the last of her SiLs, the Duchess of Gloucester! I think she may even have outlived the QM.

And.... relax!

We watched the Mary Portas “what people bought in 2018” show last night and I arrived just in time to say that the Meghan Markle boat neck top was a best seller. Apparently there was going to be another Meghan feature after the ad break. I piped up “that will be Meghan green, I have a Meghan green coat before it became Meghan green”

Anyway, the feature aired and DH said “she didn’t mentione Meghan Greene. Who is this Meghan Greene??”

I laughed
A lot.

I think they are probably "hands on"parents but they have a lot more "me time" than the average woman. They don't have to work per se, they don't have to clean and cook or shop for food and household products. Nanny can take over.
They probably don't have to do exhausting night feeds.
All these are time consuming and tiring.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 04/01/2019 20:14

Meghan Greene arf!!

I always thought that the Queen and Princess Margaret were both absolutely stunning looking when they were younger. Really beautiful.

Clionba · 04/01/2019 20:18

I pride myself that I was a "hands on" mother, but let me tell you, a nanny and housekeepers helped! Retuning to the UK and back to reality was a lot tougher and I crashed out rather than kept fit Sad.
I wonder if Meghan's wedding dress style has been popular with brides?

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2019 20:18

HM was very pretty as a young woman but PM was truly beautiful. Those portraits of her in the 50s are just stunning. She rivalled the likes of Liz Taylor!

OP posts:
mikado1 · 04/01/2019 20:32

In many ways, you could probably more hands on with the housekeepers etc!

LaurenOrdering · 04/01/2019 21:46

Does anyone else think that Gabriella of Monaco looks so much like her late grandmother Princess Grace?
Also I love this photo of Grace & her children with Stephanie picking her nose (like all young children do Grin )
