Previous thread.

Usual rules - say what you like about the clothes, keep it civil re the wearers.

The Favourite is a 15 and most definitely NOT suitable for an 11 year old. Despite the incredibly strong performances and the visual sumptuousness, I didn't really enjoy it. Absolutely stunning to look at but I didn't like that the essential tragedy of Queen Anne's life was unnecessarily turned into a fictional menage a trois. Partner really liked it though so I may be in a minority!

VamillaSugar · 13/01/2019 20:50

That’s what I thought. It was marketed as a 12A round here Hmm. So we took him to see the Spider-Man film instead!! Would love to see the V&A wedding - will look out for it on iplayer.

StellaRockafella · 13/01/2019 21:22

RatherBeRiding Rabbits named after the Queen's lost children aside, The Favourite is all based on fact.

StellaRockafella · 13/01/2019 21:26

Rather interesting article about how the film took 20 years to come to fruition.

SenecaFalls · 13/01/2019 21:31

No one saw V's wedding, then?

I saw it. The content was good, but the production values were not up to par, in my opinion, which is often true for documentaries. It looked as though they raided an old BBC production of anything-by-Jane-Austen for some of the wedding guests' attire.

SenecaFalls · 13/01/2019 21:42

The Favourite is all based on fact.

Based on fact, but there is a lot to quibble with on the historical accuracy front, especially how the film makers conveniently disposed of Prince George of Denmark, who was alive during much of the period covered and to whom Anne, was by all accounts, devoted.

MDFalco · 13/01/2019 21:48

@QueenOfTheAndals Maybe I'm an old romantic, or maybe they're just good actors, but the Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg look so happy with each other - just so content to be in each others' company.

MDFalco · 13/01/2019 22:28

@Henri and Maria Theresa's wedding. Sorry to keep on responding about the Luxembourgers, but that wedding dress is stunning- sort of up there with Princess Margaret's or Princess Grace's.

The Grand Duke looks a bit like David Bowie to me.

AnimalMystery · 13/01/2019 22:34

Loved The Favourite. As I watching it, some of the story and names seem familiar and eventually I remembered that I’d read a Jean Plaidy book called The Queen’s Favourite about 40 years ago about the same characters. Funny how stuff you learn as a child stays in your mind yet I can’t remember things from last week.

SeaRabbit · 14/01/2019 07:19

I loved the music and the look of The Favourite, and some of the actors were excellent, but ultimately I found it rather boring.

Wetdogloveshubert · 14/01/2019 07:22

I watched The Favourite last night and loved the portrayal - really intriguing. The costumes were fabulous, but the jewellery caught my eye most. I can see MM wearing a lot of it!

We're nearly at 1k posts here..

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/01/2019 08:07

Morning all. So this week we will be spiked for choice when it comes to duchess-spotting! We are getting:

Harry and Meghan in Birkenhead today
Kate in Islington tomorrow
Kate at the Royal Opera House on Wednesday
Meghan at Mayhew on Thursday
Harry and Meghan at Cirque du Soleil on Thursday night

We'll definitely need a new thread by this afternoon and @CurlyWurlyTwirly and @Bloominglovely, the Queen requests your presence on that!

beanaseireann · 14/01/2019 10:31

Ah Queen re your request. That's so nicely put.

MakeItAmazing · 14/01/2019 10:43

I recorded the wedding recreation of Victoria and Albert but haven't had chance to watch it yet.

Is The Favourite the film with Olivia Coleman as a very scary Queen? Is she Anne?

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/01/2019 11:02

Yes, Olivia plays Anne and she's amazing! Not so much scary as tragic.

Meghan taking a leaf out of HM's book today and in a purple dress with red coat and shoes. She's been listening to us again and ditched the black and navy!

I like them both separately but not together (the coat and dress)

frugalkitty · 14/01/2019 11:22

Royal purple for Meghan today! I like it, it's like a crocus bursting through the dullness of January!

Clionba · 14/01/2019 11:23

I like the purple and red, fantastic, strong colours. Maybe not together, as Barton says, but hey, she looks good. I'm not sure about the bag though.

UrsulaPandress · 14/01/2019 11:24

She’s still touching her bump.

Disclaimer - doesn’t bother me in the slightest

Love the colours.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/01/2019 11:34

I'm reserving judgement until we get some slightly better photos. Also want to see what the dress looks like without the coat. It's probably be another new outfit but I think most of the clothes we'll see on Meghan from now will be new, for obvious reasons.

OP posts:
frugalkitty · 14/01/2019 11:41

I like the colours together, just not the bag.

hopeishere · 14/01/2019 11:44

The bag is horrible and the wrong colour. I like the red and purple. The Queen wears strong colours so she can be seen so maybe Meghan is doing the same.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 14/01/2019 11:49

Liking the strong colours.

BigGreenOlives · 14/01/2019 11:54

I don't like the bag but I think the strong colours work together. More very high heels - respect!
