Previous thread.

Usual rules - say what you like about the clothes, keep it civil re the wearers.

Im not sure the Givenchy clothes are a great investment tbh, they are very Kardashian-esque before the yeezy years.
i don't think Jessica Mulroney is going anywhere, MM seems comfortably happy with her styling, don't think taking any fashion advices from the Queen or any other conservatively dressed royal will be welcomed.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/01/2019 08:45

Kardashian-esque? Really?? I'm not overly familiar with what the members of the infamous K clan wear but I would've thought it was all much tighter, shorter and low cut than any of these outfits of Meghan's. I didn't realise Kim's wedding dress was Givenchy but that was before CWK took over as head designer there.

Americans don't get much maternity leave. I suspect Meghan will be visible, just less so, fairly soon after baby is born.

Please explain the Roland Mouret 're Victoria Becham comment? Am I missing something and terribly naive? I could never wear VB clothes but I do like them....

DontCallMeCharlotte · 05/01/2019 10:17

But she "works" for a, nay, the British firm now... Wink

Ricardo Tisci was the Creative Director of Givenchy and is/was good friends with Kanye West. He did dress Kim Kardashian as Kanye wanted to dress her and change her style. Tisci is now the Creative Director at Burberry.

pinkground202 · 05/01/2019 11:11

The Kardashian-Givenchy connection came about because the designer before CWK, Ricardo Tisci (now at Burberry) was, ahem, 'a friend' of Kanye's. I always thought Tisci was the wrong fit for Givenchy, I wonder what Hubert made of the floral monstrosity that KK wore to the met ball a few years ago.

CWK Audrey-esque dresses are beautiful and the clean lines suit MM.

CWK didn't add anything new , not yet anyway to Givenchy , and is still modeling a lot of her designs on Ricardo's work, which he used to design for Kardashians .If we are honest here it's Kanye who Ricardo and Givenchy should be thankful for. Prior to that Givenchy was only surviving on few handbags and one famous boots design which looks very familiar to the famous Hermes jumping boots with kelly lock. MM clothes are much more demure but the connection is still there , the cape dress, the black navy dress she wore , are all similar to Ricardo's clothes.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 11:30

Oh yes Kanye & Riccardo are very close. Kim is just a beard.
Roland Mouret is the designer behind VBs label. She just basically markets them. ( My sister works in fashion, same swing tickets; everything. They are both managed by Simon Fuller)

queenofarles · 05/01/2019 11:34

I think VB bought the copyright for the Mouret designs ?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 11:36

@QueenofArles I’m not familiar with RTs work for Givenchy but This Vogue summary looks very different to CWK, who seems to be closer to the style of Hubert de Givenchy

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 11:36

Not sure about the copyright, but Mouret still designs for her

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 11:40

Meghan needs to be very careful about rushing back to work when she has a newborn at home. It may be the done thing in the US but she will get absolutely slated in the press for it, if she appears for anything more than Ascot and Trooping the Colour.
I remember Fergie left 6 week old Beatrice at home to follow Andrew’s ship round as it docked in various places in Australia. The press crucified her for it. I think for the first 5 years of their marriage he was in the Navy, then they divorced after 6 years.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 11:45

Meghan Markle pre duchess red carpet looks
She looks so young, even though these photos were only taken 4-6 years ago. Becoming Royal certainly gives you a particular patina. Especially the women.

mikado1 · 05/01/2019 12:02

She has a look of Andie McDowell in some of those I think Curly!

But then Kate got called lazy for taking her full maternity leave. They can't win can they?

Having said that, royal "work" (apart from overseas tours) is nowhere near as taxing as a 40 hour week job!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 05/01/2019 12:27

Whatever Meghan chooses to do she will be slated for it. Royal women usually are. Misogyny is I think at the heart of it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/01/2019 12:43

Maybe Fergie was worried that Andrew would dock more than just his ship in a port! I'm intrigued to know the truth about their relationship, I must admit. I think her biggest sin in the eyes of the Firm was being caught having an affair rather than the affair itself.

OP posts:
Clionba · 05/01/2019 13:20

True. I think it was the vulgarity of the frolicking around the pool, with the daughters there. Those awful topless pictures! Just after HM had paid off her debts. A bit foolish. Maybe the story will be told one day. In the meantime, Fergie knows where the bodies are buried......

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/01/2019 14:01

Didn't she also have an affair with someone while pregnant? To me that indicates something had gone seriously wrong in her marriage.

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/01/2019 14:18

Queen I think that was the Texan guy, Steve Wyatt. John Bryan, the so-called "financial advisor", was the later affair after Eugenie arrived

It's said that Fergie was at Balmoral when the toe-sucking story broke all over the press and she had to leave ... which doubtless made for an interesting atmosphere around the breakfast table!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/01/2019 15:05

Don't get me wrong, any affair while married is a sign that something's gone wrong, but to have one while pregnant? That makes me think there was more to it than meets the eye, especially as A&F are still on such good terms.

I spotted this skirt today, which looks a bit like Meghan's Givenchy one!

Speaking of Meghan, I mentioned on the other thread that I am headed off on a trip for work on Monday. Last night I went in for a manicure and requested my usual neutral hues, but my nail tech convinced me that I needed to get out of my rut and get a "Meghan Markle" shade. And by that she meant the dark nails Meghan sported at the Fashion Awards thing. So in honor of this thread, I went for it. It's a very dark purple, almost black. DH says I'm ready for Halloween.

I've decided I like it, and since most of my clothes for the trip are navy (with a least one boatneck), I'll be fully inspired by this thread. Smile
