Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

Another empty here- Elemis Marine Cream (which I bought as part of a huge bargain gift set on QVC). It's a really nice cream, but in no way worth what they charge for it full price (it's about £80 a pot). I wouldn't go out f my way to buy it again. I'm moving on to a sample tube of a Clarins day cream, and after that I've got a 30ml Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturiser to start on. (and several more lined up for spring/summer with SPf)

sweetheart · 18/01/2019 14:21

Have still resisted any fad purchases this month Grin

I have replaced a couple of essentials but i'm going with the theory that if I can get it from the supermarket with my food shopping delivery then it's ok! Wink

Sausagefingers9 · 18/01/2019 19:52

Please can I join? I knew I had a lot of stuff to use but I’m amazed now I’ve laid it out! This isn’t even all of it.

sausage you were very brave! I have a huge stash here and dare not get it all out. Not until husband is out anyway.

I have finished a shampoo and a shower gel, absolutely no need to replace, as many others forming a queue😀

Sarcelle · 19/01/2019 08:26

I am doing okay. I have not bought anything except deodorant and dental stuff last week. I nearly wavered and put a Max Factor bronzer in my Amazon basket last night. This was because I made the mistake of watching some You Tube make up videos. I am glad I never pressed buy and I have taken it out of the basket now. I think I am going to avoid bloggers etc until such time as my susceptibility declines. I have not bought anything other than food sine the start of the year. It has been surprisingly easy.

ElspethFlashman · 19/01/2019 09:37

I had a vivid dream last night that I bought the IT Cosmetics CC Cream and had instant regret. My poor subconscious!

I am getting my hair cut tomorrow and am a bit conflicted. It won't cost that much, but does it vibe with No Spend? Are the rest of you still going to the hairdressers or are you taking a break for a while?

Sarcelle · 19/01/2019 10:05

I will be having haircuts. It is unnecessary spend that I am cutting out.

Peridot1 · 19/01/2019 10:10

I’m just trying to use up my stash of stuff and not spend on anything other than replacements. And no clothes till I’ve lost weight.

Hairdresser will still happen. Although I am planning on stretching my appointments out a bit. Mainly because I want to see how much grey there is! I’m 54 and have gone very blonde to try hide the regrowth and I’m planning on ultimately going grey. Gently and with style though! I hope. My next appointment would be in two weeks but I’m going to wait a bit.

loveliesbleeding1 · 19/01/2019 14:11

Elspeth I love the fact you actually dreamed about beauty products!😂. I have bought a home hair colour,so I’m going to see how that goes.Hair was done just before Xmas so I’m going to leave it as long as possible, but I’m not averse to trying the mumsnet haircut either! (I think)

IloveJudgeJudy · 19/01/2019 22:04

Can I join, please? I just did a clear out of my bathroom (that's not including under the bed) and I've realised that I've got far too much makeup, soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. I mustn't buy anything else for at least 6 months. I've already thrown out loads. Probably should have donated it, but if I hadn't got rid of it today it would have been around for weeks longer. I know myself so well!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/01/2019 23:04

I've always put haircuts in the "Accepted Spend" catergory , otherwise you'll spend more money on hair products .

I had mine cut/blow about a month ago so I'm fine for a while , Im growing it so I'll have tidy up trims rather than every 5 weeks when it was short .

Bought a new bra (Asda) to try out and if it's nice enough, I'll get a couple more and throw out the ones that I wouldn't want to wind up in hospital wearing (my DGran's Gold Standard. My Dad ended up in A&E as a boy , she asked him if he had decent clean underwear on. Not "Oh, my poor son , are you ok?" Nope : "Did you not non-shaming pants on" )

loveliesbleeding1 · 20/01/2019 11:06

Oh,the hair dye was still no spend because dh bought it.

Peridot1 · 20/01/2019 13:05

I like that lovelies - I have similar - if I buy anything in Sainsbury’s it just goes down as household spend! Grin. I don’t abuse it as I really want to use stuff up but if I need to replace anything I will try Sainsbury’s!

I e just finished off a bottle of bubble bath. And used half a sachet of a face mask.

loveliesbleeding1 · 20/01/2019 16:58

Excellent move peridot! I like your style.

Fresta · 20/01/2019 17:03

Handcream! Does anyone else accumulate this? I took 3 tubes to work last week and put them in the ladies toilets for everyone to use. I still have 11 more, either half used or unopened in a drawer. MIL (lovely as she is) just gave me another one today for my birthday. it's a really nice Heathcote and Ivory one but I've no idea how I'm ever going to get through it all. I haven't bought much, a lot were gifts (maybe I look like my hands are dry?). I do try to put them where I'm more luke ly to use them, so have one by the kitchen sink, one in my handbag, one by my bed- I put them on my feet at night but I seem to get more at a faster rate than I can use them.

Sausagefingers9 · 20/01/2019 18:34

I will still be having hair cuts otherwise I will look remarkably like Hagrid!
Same here with hand creams. Have far too many but am making a real effort to use them up. Going to count them later because I’m sad like that Grin

Fresta · 20/01/2019 19:16

Same here regarding haircuts- I'm not really trying to change my beauty routine- just trying to stop buying too much and stop having several duplicates of similar things on the go. My hair is short so any more than six weeks without a cut and it looks a mess.

Bellsandwhistle · 20/01/2019 19:57

Still no spend on beauty here and low spend generally. Being mindful about every purchase and realising how many are not necessary.
So just did the hand cream count and it’s 15!!! No idea where they all cane from. Mostly gifts or boxes/calanders. Going o use at least 4 times a day to get through!

ElspethFlashman · 20/01/2019 20:38

Gosh I was depressed at having 4 handcreams! Don't feel so bad now, lol.

I do use one every night cos my hands get destroyed at work (nurse) but even so I'll never get through them. I'm going to use as body lotion.

Of course considering I have about 5 tubes of body lotion I dunno when this is supposed to happen!

Haircut tomorrow so. I'm gonna enjoy it. Badly needed, I look like an afghan hound.

I have also realised I need to throw out some of my Weekend clothes because I look absolutely disgraceful this weekend. Shabby isn't the word. That led me to a googling spiral for replacement lounge wear stuff. But I realised it was all part of the purge/need/acquire cycle and I'm not gonna do it anymore. I'm going to throw out my shitty baggy joggers but then I'm going to shop my wardrobe. I bet there are substitutions in there at the back I've forgotten about.

Sarcelle · 20/01/2019 21:49

Once winter is over I am going to have a long over due purge on my wardrobe. Some of it has been around too long, looks shabby or dull. I am going to buy any future purchases with thought rather than impulse purchases or a "that will do" mentality. I want to see gaps in my wardrobe rather than everything crammed in.

Peridot1 · 21/01/2019 03:27

I think I would be afraid to count handcreams. Or foot creams. Or lip balms. I have far too many of all of the above!

I too am guilty of looking shabby. Need a massive wardrobe clear out. I have far too many clothes. Not buying any more till I lose weight though. I did buy some casual tops in the autumn that I feel better in than others.

Sausagefingers9 · 21/01/2019 09:26

15! Shock
Your hands will be so smooth!

Bellsandwhistle · 21/01/2019 11:45

Lol most are travel size but yes it’s totally ridiculous. Off to do second slather of the day now!

I love this thread and find it so inspiring ... bit like the fasting weight loss threads though, I have good intentions but struggle to put it into practice Blush

Sausagefingers9 · 21/01/2019 15:01

I counted mine today - 18 Blush
Like you op most are travel size and a couple have about 1/4 left.
So many hand creams yet my hands are always dry.

On the plus side I finished a tube of benefit mascara today. I have quite a few others to use but really I’m not that keen on them. Debating whether to throw them and buy another benefit one which I do actually like.
