Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

Finished a Lush Shine So Bright hair styling product. I have 3 backups in my stockpile! So, inching forwards.

Also finished Body Shop Hemp hand cream. Two left in stockpile.

About to finish Decleor cleanser and toner. Huge bottles (400ml), really like these but will not rebuy due to cost. I might ask for them at Christmas so that I use up all my other cleansers by then.

tinyradish · 22/04/2019 07:56

I haven't tried much CT but do think its overrated (& overpriced for the quality.)

Not sure if mentioned I finished a burts bees lipbalm - quite impressed with myself as if usually purchase another straight away. But I have a fair few lip balms so using a palmers cocoa butter one up now.

I did buy a rimmel blonde brow gel as I want something easy to do my brows with. I love brow gels but its increasingly hard to get blonde ones that aren't stupidly pricey, so we'll see how this one fares.

You can still get Coty Airspun, it's just in the States now (like Cover Girl).

ElspethFlashman · 22/04/2019 08:03

I've debated getting it loads over the last year but now I've a Mac Mineralise one winging it's way to me, it's going to have to wait. I picked a Mac one to replace the CT one because in my experience they are harder baked and therefore last quite a long time. The CT one was v finely milled but it meant it was just clouds of air that puffed out with every touch of the brush.

And honestly it reminded me waaaaay too much of the Rimmel Stay Matte to justify the price anyway!

I also bought a hair serum as a replacement and was quite chuffed with myself as it was a Tresemme one reduced from 8 quid to 2. In olden days I'd have bought 4 of them cos of the bargain, but that's how the pile 'o shite accumulates!

Finished another body butter

Peridot1 · 25/04/2019 12:10

I have finished a small Temple Spa skin calming balm and am almost finished a small Sunday Reilly cleansing oil. I’ve decided to concentrate on all the small bottles and pots of things I have as they are just cluttering up the bathroom.

Am also starting to use foot creams to ready my feet for summer. Have a pedicure booked for Monday.

And a confession of a new pair of wedge heeled sandals that I didn’t need but it’s all Elspeth’s fault!

I’m not on a total clothes spend ban but trying to be sensible. Planning a sort out of my shoes etc later. I have boots I know I haven’t worn since we moved here almost 8 years ago!

LHMB · 25/04/2019 12:47

I am supposed to be limiting what I spend on clothes too but in the last month have bought a dress, yesterday I bought a skirt. Oops. Bad of me

Peridot1 · 27/04/2019 11:32

Finished the cleansing oil and also a sample moisturiser from an advent calendar or similar. And I have thrown out two Paula’s Choice samples that must be four years old.

I’ve started a ruthless wardrobe sort out and am feeling I might just actually chuck a lot of the random small bits and pieces in the bathroom.

Sarcelle · 27/04/2019 15:47

I chucked out a tinted moisturiser. I caught sight of myself in a mirror in a different light. I looked orange!

Bellsandwhistle · 27/04/2019 16:14

I’ve used up a bar of soap in shower - trying to go less plastic but seem to have a number of hotel minis and a rituals one I bought despite my no spend! I was in an outlet and totally forget it was beauty!! Will then dig through stash for a final check before switching to soap going forward (I think!)
Cleansers I’ve used up a large and a mini micellar water and am not allowing myself to replace until I’ve got through all my hot cloth cleaners of which I reckon I’ve about 6☺️ How does that happen?!! I know calendars and boots offers😂

I threw out a tinted moisturiser too. The Nars one. It's medium coverage but that just meant its like a foundation in how it looks (which means you have to put on blusher or its too mask like) , but only lasts as long as a moisturiser! Confused

I also threw out a pair of jeans and a pair of brogues that I tried to make work so many times. Turns out I'm a brogue person in my head but in reality none of my actual clothes work with brogues! I think you have to really be an opaque tights + cute dress person for them really.

Sarcelle · 27/04/2019 21:21

I gave a once worn pair of brogues to the charity shop too. Lovely shoes but I felt like a police officer.

Bellsandwhistle · 29/04/2019 16:42

elspeth would you do me a favour and look at my super stylish ladies opinions wanted re a wedding guest outfit and let me know your view? You seem stylish!!

God just read it, they're all cracked. It's gorgeous and you look faberooney.

I suppose though I wouldn't wear leather shoes, maybe ones a bit dressier. I think matte shoes really only look nice with a lace dress or similar to balance it out, but when it's a matte dress you might need shinier shoes. And some sparkly earrings and bracelet wouldn't go astray maybe.

I think you're going to look stunning. There is definitely cultural differences on that thread, it's a bit mad.

Bellsandwhistle · 29/04/2019 22:01

Thanks elspeth
Still haven’t decided but will try on again tmw. Do you like the blue Reiss one as an alternative?

Just had another sift of nail polishes. Was 75, now 50. Took them into work. Still too many. But at least they are in one cosmetic bag now. I used to have 250 this time last year. They were in three big boxes and the fridge! Shocking waste of £. The good news is my menopausal crumbly nails seem to have rehardened so the polish can be applied again!

Used up a body lotion. Had one left in stockpile, so that's my only one! I will only buy another when it is feeling empty. Small victory there. A normal person's supply of body lotion!

Also used up a Rimmel Instafilter sort of BB cream. There wasn't a great deal in the tube so have been lavishly applying. As a consequence sometimes I look like I am wearing a mask! The bad news is that I had 3 other tubes. As I am not that impressed with it (why I bought a stash, God only knows) I have given them away. Don't feel guilty about getting rid of them!)

stucknoue · 01/05/2019 11:32

I have drawerfuls of make up, and a cupboard full of toiletries, think I could go years apart from deodorant. Might have to as income about to full by 3/4 Confused

FiveShelties · 01/05/2019 11:42

I have been cheating and concentrating on using up things which were half used! So a small Micellar water, a lipstick and a shower gel gone. No need to replace them, but at least that is three less. I am now working on a perfume, conditioner and hand cream. So much stuff.

Peridot1 · 01/05/2019 12:20

I have used up a Rodial acid peel and a REN day cream in th last couple of days. Both from advent calendars I think.

Bathroom still looks the same though. No discernible difference in amount of bottles!

I’m doing a massive wardrobe sort out too and am being ruthless. Might have to do the same with beauty products.

Elspeth - my sandals arrived and I really like them. The seem really comfortable.

Bells - I had a look at your thread. The dress is beautiful. Very elegant. I haven’t been to an Irish wedding for years but would agree that they seem dressier than UK weddings.

Sarcelle · 01/05/2019 14:05

I am going to do a cull and tidy up of wardrobe too. Did it a few weeks ago but I am going to be more ruthless. I have ordered some shoe box thingys so that I am organised.

Bellsandwhistle · 01/05/2019 17:06

Thanks peridot I’m paralysed by indecision at the minute!! Had it all boxed up to return and now the other thread has turned all supportive!!

I agree re no discernible difference in bathroom number of bottles and I have loads in bedroom too! Think it’s just going to be a long slog for those of us who succumb to beauty boxes etc!! Good reminder not to give into temption!!

Temptation

FiveShelties · 02/05/2019 03:01

I need to have a big clear out of clothes too - I have too much of everything, blouses, jumpers, cosmetics, cleaning stuff - everything.

Peridot1 · 08/05/2019 08:21

Everyone has gone quiet!

I finished a serum on Friday. And a bar of soap! Had two on the go in the shower. Concentrating on the one left now and I think the one by the sink is almost done so I can move the one from the shower to the sink and have a new one in the shower. How exciting! Grin

Face is black and blue and grazed at the moment after a fall on Friday so I’m not doing much with products or make up until it heals.

Still going with bedroom sort out of wardrobe etc. Another black back of clothes ready to go after yesterday.

Sarcelle · 08/05/2019 08:59

I have not managed to use up anything. We have kitchen fitters in and my regime of using any products at all is very minimal at the moment. Should be over by the weekend when I plan on using everything. Feel hairy, rough skinned and hobbit footed.)

(I gave away some more make up. Mainly eyeshadow palettes. I very rarely use eye shadows, if I did it tends to be one shade, so not sure why I ended up with so many palettes. I see gaps in drawers now. But the gaps are forever gaps, they will not be filled!)
