Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

So I didn't go shopping again this weekend.....I did go to the shops - I returned clothing to the value of £150 which I probably would have otherwise kept Grin

Also I saw a scarf I liked whilst I was out - it was only £6 and would have been so easy to give into temptation. instead I cam home and told a couple of family members that I'd seen it and it would make a great birthday present for me - winning Grin

loveliesbleeding1 · 21/01/2019 16:28

I have a confession to make.... I bought a body shop chamomile cleansing balm. This is why..... I had a £5 reward to use up AND there was a 25% discount so instead of £10 it was £2.50!! But I promise, nowt else.

ElspethFlashman · 21/01/2019 16:43

Well done on the returns! I did get my hair cut today and she gave me about 5 sachets of deep conditioning treatment. She was trying to upsell so wouldn't take no for an answer. As if I need more products! But I just threw them in my bathroom box to use when travelling.

If you have a bunch of tubes of stuff with only 1/4 left, cut them across with scissors and connect the two ends together again. I find you use them up quicker cos you're scooping out a dollop each time rather than a squirt. You also don't waste anything and you don't get pissed off squeezing and squeezing.

I finished a Tropic Skincare eye cream this morning. I like the Tropic range, and it seems to suit my sensitive skin, but I already had a Body Shop Vitamin E one in my stash so won't be replacing for now.

Thatsnotmybaby · 22/01/2019 10:10

Well I had my first proper beauty spend of 2019 in Duty Free over the weekend, just my usual Estee Lauder Doublewear. Technically, I didn't need it as my current bottle is almost full, but I need a second bottle for a make up bag I can take out of the house when I need it so its for that.

I brought three different samples away with me for the weekend and used them up so I'm pleased with that.

I went to Bluewater yesterday with DD and totally forgot about no spend Blush. I bought a powder and an eyeliner from Nyx in Boots. There's loads more choice in Bluewater and I do actually need them both, but no more.

My friend's DD is an Avon rep so I had been buying quite a bit of stuff from her, but I'm not going to in future. Most of it isn't so great, anyway, apart from the hand cream which I've got loads of.

sweetheart · 22/01/2019 12:10

JudgeJudy - I am actually impressed that you managed to go somewhere like Bluewater and only buy a couple of things! For me that would have been a disaster! Grin

IloveJudgeJudy · 22/01/2019 13:46

I have to admit I went into John Lewis and DD showed me Hourglass vanish highlighting sticks. Soooo beautiful. Hourglass don't have any prices on their items (I hate it when stands do that). DD told me the sticks are £50. Actually, they're £38. I might have bought one at £38 so thank goodness DD overpriced them.

sweetheart · 22/01/2019 15:36

I wish you had posted "DD showed me something" because now I really want to go and google what a "Hourglass vanish highlighting stick" is - I'm pretty sure I'd need one Grin

applesandpears33 · 22/01/2019 18:03

I'm not doing so well - I've bought three items from Boots. All three are staples that will be used. But I didn't need to buy them now.

ElspethFlashman · 22/01/2019 19:24

It's very difficult isn't it?

It makes you realise how automatic it is to SPEND. We do it without thinking, it's a habit.

I pop over to r/MakeupRehab most days. I don't post, but I find a daily check in is helpful, to read the daily motivation threads. It's a bit like going to a daily support group! It just reaffirms your resolve.

So I am still doing well. I'm following some panning communities on IG and Reddit as well and that's helping me focus on the products I have, rather than fantasy products I don't have.

I have an unofficial wee side project of trying to pan this Rimmel Kate nude lipstick that I'm not mad on. It's fine, but a bit drying and blah looking. I'm determined to pan it and get rid of it by the end of February so am wearing it every morning to work.

I also discovered today that if I mix two Mac lipsticks together, one too peach and one too rosey (Peach Blossom and Syrup) that it makes a really natural "my lips but better" shade. So I'm excited to try to get use out of two rather sad and neglected lipsticks. I'm adding them into my "work lipstick" rotation also.

For those giving into temptation maybe try a daily mantra to remind yourself or ask you’re self a few questions before each spend. Also do not google hourglass stick thingy!! Think when you see something like that - do I need it? Do I have several similar products in stack? No and yes btw! If you se a feel unique email delete elthput opening. No browsing. If you run out of something and really need it you will know!

Today in Tesco I looked at makeup stand as I’d read a concealer thread then I caught myself on amd reminded myself I’ve still two on the go!! I thought what a treat it will be to browse and pick one concealer when I’ve actually run out d how it will be more fun when totally permitted!!
I’m actually finding the questions do I need it transferring to other areas of my life eg do I need this takeaway coffee when I can make one at home? Do I need to stop for a sandwich when I can make lunch at home? Do I need to buy food when things in freezer? Saving money in many little ways. Going to go for an experience instead eg facial, massage, night away, treat with kids.

I am finding it surprisingly easy. No urge to look at stuff at the moment but we are only really three months into the year. I reckon come March when all the spring make up and clothes launches will be hitting the shops I will struggle.

loveliesbleeding1 · 23/01/2019 10:28

Me too, bells it has automatically run over into my other areas of spending and I’m actually saving money on a daily basis into my savings account!

Sausagefingers9 · 23/01/2019 11:07

That’s good advice. I’m definitely saving more too. I just need to stop splurging on wool now and use up what’s in my stash!

Sausagefingers9 · 24/01/2019 18:24

Have to admit I bought some soaps to add to my stash today. I have loads already so probably shouldn’t have but they were nice Yardley ones and only a pound in Boyes so couldn’t resist!

Sausagefingers9 · 24/01/2019 18:58

Also just used the last of this. Bit gutted, it’s gorgeous Sad

Love Boyes - in North?

Sausagefingers9 · 24/01/2019 20:12

Yes I’m in the north. Love shopping at Boyes, you never know what you’ll find! Are you north too?

Bellsandwhistle · 24/01/2019 22:04

sausage i had that oil and it’s lovely. Have other oils and things in stash so can’t repurchase. Hope I remember about it when I eventually have no stash!!
Ps repeat after me I must not buy soap until I have none!!!

No, but been to one in When visiting relatives in my youth Smile

Peridot1 · 24/01/2019 22:33

Got a cleanser and more facial wipes today in Sainsbury’s. Was with DH. Him doing our normal weekly shop and me doing a bit of a store cupboard stock up. Just in case. £7.50 spend.

Fresta · 25/01/2019 14:06

Two more empties here- Elemis body wash and body cream which were part of a gift set I bought on Black Friday from QVC. I'll be moving on to a Sanctuary exfoliating wash which I was given for Christmas and matching body lotion.
I'm also using another Elemis body wash as well though- a frangipani one. I like to have two or three shower gels on the go so I can choose one to go with my mood. Does anyone else do this? I tend to have a floral one for feeling glamorous, a creamy comforting one for when it's cold or I feel like I need some TLc and an invigorating or citrus one to wake me up on days when I feel I need some energy! (I love the verbena one from L'occitane for this)
Also been using a small sample tube of Smooth infusion styling creme from Aveda. I might be tempted by a full size when I've used everything else up. It made my hair feel thicker and less fly-away.

woodhill · 25/01/2019 15:04

That Frangipanzi one is fantastic-lucky you
