Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

Sweetheart - I too have managed a no spend weekend and still have not bought any beauty products this year.
I finished a cleanser today and dug another out of stash. They are advent calander cleansers and there’s more in stash!
Peridot1 I like no 7 foundations too amd have two on the go plus an urban decay for nights out amd two Clinique powder ones for touch ups out and about. I think I have one tinted moisturiser as well. I will do thorough search tmw to see if there’s any I’ve forgotten!!

Argghhhhh, does nail polish count? I relented and spent £1 on a Rimmel 60 second polish in Tesco yesterday!
It is gorgeous though!

sweetheart · 14/01/2019 14:14

Depends how many nail polishes you already have Wine Wink For me another nail polish would deffo count as a fail -as- -I- -have- -a- -thousand- -already- but you might not have any already.

WineNotTea · 14/01/2019 15:08

Wellllll, if I ignore the gel lamp, gubbins and gazillion gel colours that I’ve never used.... Blush I only have a handful of other colours. Oh and I may have just bought another one from Amazon..... normal not gel though!
On a positive note I’ve just found an unused primer (in my nail box....) so that has saved me from buying new!

Peridot1 · 14/01/2019 15:15

Nail polish would def count for me as I have loads I never use!

Used up a moisturiser this morning. On to the next one now. Which stings a bit so might be why I haven’t been using it. It’s Superfacialist Vit C one. Will persevere and see how I go. Only use in the morning.

Bellsandwhistle · 14/01/2019 16:22

Okay do foundation count - in addition to the 5 I thought I had I’ve dug out 2 more. A bb cream and a powder one I got in LF advent which I don’t like but will use as my touch up one until it’s done then bin never to replace. It goes everywhere! Only problem is there’s a bronzer or two and a blush in the set so I’ll have to use them up too and I don’t wear bronzer daily but maybe I’ll have to!
I guess fountains cost £120!!! Gosh if I add up each category I’m guessing I have a few grand in products which would obv be better invested!!!

I'm not too bad for foundations - I have one full size foundation and two full size tinted moisturisers. I've also got about three trial sizes I've received from Clinique. I think I have enough eye shadow and mascara to last a lifetime though.

ElspethFlashman · 14/01/2019 19:45

Today I chucked two blushes. One Nars and one NYX. You can imagine my hesitation at chucking the Nars one. But it doesn't suit me, it never suited me, and I'm never going to appreciate it. I was keeping it cos it was expensive. Crazy.

I have also chucked about 10 nail polishes. So now I only have about 10 left and I'm sure I can whittle that down further.

Basically my rule is that I'm done done DONE keeping things I haven't used in a year. I no longer care if it was limited edition, or super hyped up, or really legendary etc.

I even threw out a China Glaze Ruby Slippers which is everybody's HG red polish. But its gone sticky and gloopy and I'd have to buy Seche Restore and I just couldn't be arsed.

If i really really miss it I'll consider repurchasing later on in the year. It's so stupid to hold on to old cruddy stuff.

However I did fail to throw out those two foundations as I've decided to re-try them for work. If they don't work out, then next week out they go. A last minute reprieve, but they won't get another one!

Bellsandwhistle · 14/01/2019 22:03

Loving your ruthless streak elspeth! I must tackle my old cruddy varnishes! I add nail varnish remover to thin gloopy ones which gives them another while but dies not help my hoarding tendenceis!!

ElspethFlashman · 14/01/2019 23:17

Oh yeah I did that for years. But I realised that I was thinning out Polish........ And then not using them! I was literally thinning them to keep in the stash "just in case" . It was a waste of thinner, tbh.

This evening I threw out about 7 more!

I now only have 3 polishes - a clear Sally Hansen Insta-Dri, a sparkly red by Essence , and a ballet pink by Catrice.

I haven't had only 3 polishes in years and years. It actually feels pretty good. No more guilt at having shiny things I never find time to use. I'm sitting here with sparkly red toes and that's all I need. Smile

FiveShelties · 15/01/2019 01:28

Foundation count here was 7 - really stupid because I don't use it every day now. Summer here so have a tan and don't bother with foundation. I think I may be brave enough to gather the nail polish together laterGrin

loveliesbleeding1 · 15/01/2019 09:12

Still no spend, just family shampoo and conditioner (from Aldi, nobody’s noticed) so I’m putting any extra money into my savings account instead.

sweetheart · 15/01/2019 09:29

I had a big clear out at the weekend - whilst I was distracting myself from buying anything. I still have more to go but it feels good to have started and to have less clutter around me.

I will go through my nail polishes - I have absolutely tons of those - both normal and gel ones. I won't bin the gel ones as sometimes I do my friends and families nails for them but the normal selection of polishes deffo needs gutting.

HoneywithLemon · 15/01/2019 09:31

Would anyone be interested in doing swaps? I have a couple of things that were presents that I won't use.

Thatsnotmybaby · 15/01/2019 14:36

Another product used up; Pestle & Mortar Renew illuminating lightweight gel cleanser; it was nice, but I'm not tempted to rush out and buy it again.

Peridot1 · 16/01/2019 09:20

Honey - I wouldn’t be to be honest but others might. If you don’t get any takers on here maybe start a separate thread? I think there have been ones in the past.

I bought a pack of facial wipes yesterday. I don’t use them often but like to have a pack for when I am really tired and might not otherwise take my makeup off.

Also some toothpaste as part of a pre Brexit stock up!

weebarra · 16/01/2019 10:50

Used up three things so far:
Clinique foaming cleanser
Shay and Blue Blood Orange shower gel Sad
A tester Clarins serum

And, we had an impromptu raffle at our staff meeting today and I won No7 Micellar water!

springchicken123 · 16/01/2019 15:17

Just to let everyone know that the charity Bliss (for premature and sick babies) take used cosmetics and perfumes! I'm having a massive clear out of things I know I'm not using (I have sensitive skin)

loveliesbleeding1 · 16/01/2019 16:40

Four foundations...say it quickly and it’s not so bad😂

UpToonGirl · 17/01/2019 21:35

Well I failed a no spend Jan - thought I would make it but when I opened an SPF I had in the cupboard it was tinted, tried it for a few days but I really couldn't get away with it. I did manage to get in and out of Boots with just a clear SPF though! I'm not sweating that too much as I figure its a necessary spend. I now have three tinted SPFs, two I bought not realising and one which came in a beauty box, I'm just going to hang on to them and use them on my legs in summer.

ElspethFlashman · 17/01/2019 22:44

Well it was a replacement, so needs must. I'm on a Replacement Only No Buy (RONB in Reddit parlance). So I don't have any problem buying something I'm genuinely out of.

I'm still on track. Have spent exactly zero this week, have brought lunches to work and haven't even had to buy petrol.

Very satisfying. I also dumped a foundation - tried it for work but it was shite, didn't last even when mixed with a Longwear one. Will try the other one that's on probation tomorrow, but I suspect I'll be dumping that too.

So the decluttering continues!

I got a refund on my shoes I returned AND got a refund on the postage cos I emailed and asked. Pretty happy about that!

Peridot1 · 18/01/2019 07:58

Finished a shampoo yesterday. Doesn’t need replacing as I still have two on the go in my bathroom and there are some I put in the main bathroom for my sis when she was here last. Will move them into my bathroom to use.

I had a quick look at foundation. Two Boots on the go. One Bobbi brown stick one I had completely forgotten about. One unopened Boots one. And two pots of Bare Minerals.

And having sorted all my make up last week I found two more lipsticks. I should count how many I have. But it might be too scary!

Peridot1 · 18/01/2019 08:00

Uptoon - I’m ok with replacements of something I use daily.

Elspeth - well done on the postage refund! I wouldn’t have even thought to ask.

Peridot1 · 18/01/2019 09:45

Just found four more lipsticks in a drawer.................

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/01/2019 10:00

Deliberate bodyswerving of the rumoured "Boots 75% Off Sale" .
Not even going to look in case its on in town.
By the time I do wander in , it'll be whittled away to a couple of body sprays and a set of hair crimping irons .

I have bought nothing for me Halo but I did see a set of earrings for DD (sale) and she got some nail products. (But it's mine so it's ok)
