Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

I haven't finished anything in ages, except a mascara. 😭 I'm at the stage with several products where I've got a ton of pan showing but the hard circle around the edge just goes on... And on.... And on... And you get so sick of it! I bought a replacement for my crap Charlotte Tilbury powder but I'm not able to use it yet cos the CT is hanging on. It's determined to piss me off!

On the plus side I went into Boots yesterday and there was so many lovely things and I left empty handed. Also left all the clothes shops empty handed.

I was telling DH about all the makeup I've dumped this year and he was deeply impressed. He was amazed when I told him that everything I owned was now only on that one shelf in the bathroom. I used to have a whole spare room with stuff everywhere! That gave me a lovely smug feeling. Can't beat it!

Sarcelle · 08/05/2019 09:25

Yes, seeing how much space you have now is a better buzz for me these days than filling it up with stuff.

I feel very confident in my skin lately. I think that has massively changed my mindset, I was buying the latest must have holy grail beauty product (which never was) in part to bolster self esteem but don't feel the need anymore. I feel at ease. It does not seem to matter anymore, although I like the self-care element of a nice bath, soft feet and elbows etc the rush to conceal any flaw has gone.

Bellsandwhistle · 08/05/2019 10:36

Yes it’s gone very quiet, I suspect people falling off wagon a bit. I have with clothes but that wasn’t really a firm plan just something I thought I’d try when I had the buzz of not spending on beauty. Have made a few clothes purchases but pulling myself up now as falling into bad habits of unnecessary purchases!
Have largely stuck to beauty with a few replacement products but again a few slips so getting back here will keep me accountable! I have finished a few travel sizes up over the past week but need to step up further! Cleaning today so will do a full on shower hair with hair treatments and body products after plus facial primers etc. I’m finding the facial products slow to get through as seems too much to use serum and primer everyday I usually go for one or the other.

Finished an M & S Aqua Perfume - another one in the stash. Also a hand cream gone, which I have been using at every opportunity to finish. lots of hand cream to go - I never seem to buy any but always have lots - where does it come from?!

On the clothes note, I tried on jeans today but did not buy. Of course, I have around 8 pairs so no idea why I was even looking Grin

tinyradish · 08/05/2019 12:20

I've been busy having a baby! :)

Used up a body shop oils of life moisturiser which I LOVED & will 100% buy again but managed to find an olay one in my stash to use in the meantime so will hold off instantly repurchasing. Plus theres no offers on tbs atm....

Also pretty much finished a mama bee belly butter (good timing) & a Mixa body lotion (so nice.) Pretty sure I have plenty of body lotions so will not buy any replacements.

Peridot1 · 08/05/2019 12:37

Congratulations tinyradish! How lovely.

ElspethFlashman · 08/05/2019 14:01

Congrats!

Mixa is fab, isn't it? I have the Soothing one, I think.

I'm back from Aldi and I swear to god that place is my downfall. So I bought a replacement conditioner but then I also found myself buying their new face cream with spf 30. It's a L'Oréal rip off, by the looks of the packaging. Only 4 quid but not needed. But spf 30! 4 quid! 😰😰😰

Oh well at least I use moisturiser fast and it's not a lipstick or something. 😖

tinyradish · 08/05/2019 14:28

Thank you both :)

Yes I bought a few bottles of Mixa when they were reduced - had never tried or heard of before but I'm so impressed! Would look out for it again.

I'm quite interested in the Aldi beauty stuff actually ..have held off of buying anything for now but it's very tempting! Good you like it.

Bellsandwhistle · 08/05/2019 22:53

Huge congratulations tiny how exciting!

Aldi was my downfall with a hot cloth cleanser pink clay or something I just had to buy at the time as it looked like an amazing dupe of something I couldn’t quite think of😂

Bellsandwhistle · 08/05/2019 22:55

I have enough cleanser to use I’d say for a full year!! Shame on me. Am not allowing myself to replace micellar water till I get through eye make up remover- using all over face- prob bad?! Then all hot cloth cleansers etc till I’m down to last one then can buy micellar water that I use all I’ve face.

tiny - congratulations.

I have never heard of Mixa, will have a look - I am sure I must need someGrin

Peridot1 · 09/05/2019 08:49

I deliberately haven’t looked Mixa up FiveShelties - don’t do it! Grin

ElspethFlashman · 09/05/2019 09:04

Oh god don't do it, it's just generic! It just doesn't piss you off by being sticky but neither do a hundred others!

FiveShelties · 09/05/2019 09:16

Grin - thank you, I will resist.

moimichme · 09/05/2019 13:32

Aww congratulations tiny!

I've not been doing as well with clothing but mostly it has been charity shop finds. I go in looking for clothes for ds and get distracted. Blush But also bought a new pair of sunglasses because mine mysteriously broke.

Have used up a Paul Smith Rose perfume and nearly finished his Woman one (another in the stash though, plus 2 other perfumes, only one of which is my favourite). Also finished a shampoo and a bb cream which I have replaced (none in stash) with a 30 spf cc cream which is quite good.

FiveShelties · 26/05/2019 22:55

How is everyone getting on? I have used up a face moisturiser, still got two left - not planning to replace until I open the last one. Have also thrown away a pair of trousers and a blouse -I cannot see any difference in the wardrobe - think I may have to get rid of a lot more.

I am going on holiday and not going to look in duty free, am not going to look in duty free, am not .........................

Sarcelle · 26/05/2019 23:06

I have used up a foot cream, hand cream and a deodorant! Not much but I have not bought anything new since New Year so feel okay, and stash is diminishing. I don't need to buy new foot or hand creams, or deodorant- I have some waiting in the wings!

Clothes wise, I was going to buy some summer clothes because of weight loss and charity shop donations at the end of last summer. But hate everything in shops so all I have bought are a couple of vest tops!

Peridot1 · 27/05/2019 11:55

Well for a few reasons I bought some new skin care bits. My skin was really playing up and I wondered if it was because I was using up old stuff, random bits and stuff that didn’t really suit my skin. And it was my birthday. And i had a look at Caroline Hirons website.

So I treated myself to some new stuff. Been fairly diligent about what I’m using and my skin is so much better. Looks clearer. No spots around my nose and cheeks.

I also had a facial on my birthday which was lovely.

Chucked out all the random bits and pieces I was using. All the bits from advent calendars, beauty boxes etc. I had two baskets of stuff at one point.

My main stash issues now are body lotions, foot creams, hand creams, deodorants and hair products. And soaps.

I did finish a soap by my bathroom sink so moved one over from the shower. New one in the shower and the sink one is nearly done too.

Am making an effort to use foot creams. Also using up an Ameliorate body lotion. Thankfully nearly all gone as I really don’t like the smell.

Am concentrating on one hair thickening product to use up.

I have sorted out all my summer clothes, had much more than I remembered. Problem is I am a stone heavier than I was last year. So I had to buy new jeans. Diet starts now!

My main aim for No Spend Beauty was to use up as much of what I had as possible and stop impulse buying and avoid advent calendar type things. I think I haven’t been too bad. What I did buy I researched and my skin is looking better so I’m feeling better about myself. The random bits that come in beauty boxes etc are such a waste really. Half the time they don’t suit me.

MovedIntoCottage · 27/05/2019 12:13

I've just found this thread! I moved house last week, downsizing massively! I have visited local charity shop regularly this week as I say goodbye to duplicates / household things I don't really need.

I had the M&S advent calendar this year, and I'm fond of Tili boxes... but no more buying until I've used all my excess!

I'm in if it's not too late to join!

Peridot1 · 27/05/2019 13:04

Never too late MovedintoCottage! Happy new home! One of the reasons I am decluttering stuff is a potential move in the next while. Some of the stuff I had I moved from overseas 8 years ago and didn’t use! Ridiculous!

I’ve done a major wardrobe declutter I’ve the past month or so too and got rid of soooo much stuff. Still have loads of clothes. Far too many. Will do another go through in a few weeks.

MovedIntoCottage · 28/05/2019 19:15

@Peridot1 I would strongly recommend getting rid of anything you can!

I've moved so many boxes of things 3 times (long story). Now I'm sorting and taking so much to charity shops etc. Confused

tinyradish · 03/06/2019 18:22

Thank you!

I'd run out of the body shop oils of life daycream (amazing) a while back & there's no decent offers on tbs at the moment so I refused to buy a replacement just yet. The Olay moisturiser I dug out was not agreeing with my skin so that's been passed on to husband who is happily using it. Glad to be rid of another thing! :)

Now I'm using a superdrug hydrating serum & a cetaphil moisturiser sample that I found in my skincare box. It's doing the job for now.

Also running extremely low on my Neal's yard beauty sleep concentrate. I have no other night creams to use so will have to buy something asap.

Started a Neutrogena body cream which is going down quickly too. Feels like my stash is really going down now. :)

moimichme · 09/10/2019 09:42

Just checking in this rainy October day to say well done, everyone.

I've been still picking up a few charity shop clothes (mainly for ds and some, unnecessary ones really, for me) but have done great at not buying beauty products. Not as great at using them up, but at least I haven't made the situation worse!

applesandpears33 · 09/10/2019 16:20

I've been slowly working through stuff. I have bought a few things but have tried to restrict it to replacements, rather than building up the stash. I reckon I've used up roughly one item a week, including trial sized and advent calendar products. My favourite at the moment is the alpha H rose liquid gold which I got in an advent calendar two years ago.

MoanerLeaser · 09/10/2019 17:58

Hey everyone, I'm slowly but surely nearing the end of everything I ever bought (cosmetics). It feels great. A few tips: repurpose products that didn't work for you. Aka, use an underwhelming shampoo as a shower gel, use a face cream or serum that broke you out on your hands or chest
