No spend beauty 2019

Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

I have put No Buy January on my screensaver on my phone Grin

I'm also going to draw a wee calendar in my list notebook and tick off all my No Buy days. That'll be encouraging, I think.

I'm in.

Embarassed to find two large face washes plus another small one when checking before ordering an another. Honestly - hardly going to come to harm if I'm out of facewash for a day or two so why do I hoard them. And as for eye liners.....

I'm not sure I understand the Hoarders thread tbh, as people keep buying stuff it appears? Talking about new stuff?

So I think it's a "use the enormous Hoard up" thread but not a No Buy thread? I couldn't follow what the rules were. Confused

That’s why I think this thread is such a good idea elspeth.I really don’t want any temptation!

I think what I find useful about the hoarders thread is there aren't any rules, you can set your own goals.

I have enjoyed the hoarders thread but personally need a stricter thread where people won’t be so forgiving of any splurges!! That’s why I want to avoid saying I’ve used up x it was fab as don’t want any temptation. I’m all about the end goal being way less stuff. Clothes included ideally. You simply must not buy any beauty stuff unless it is replacing an empty essential. Peoples essentials can vary I guess but until you are totally out of eg moisturiser including all travel sizes etc you cannot buy another. I personally will not replace luxury items eg hair fragrance or other calander treats that are not essential. Simpler life coming up.

Changed jobs this year and now have much less disposable income, have a box under the bed with lots of new make up, toiletries etc so basically only need to buy deodorant , determined to use cash rather than card and use up what I've got.Did however, get a great deal in Boots yesterday, No7 Cleansing Balm/No7 Hot cloth cleanser down to only £5 each, usually £13, then got 3 for 2, so 3 items for £10 instead of £39! bought some for friends for future gifts and stash for myself :) I've been buying clothes in charity shops and car boot sales for so long now that I find it difficult to pay for clothes in the usual shops, rip off, even in the sales, jumpers and cardigans in Monsoon and Debenhams £30-£55...no thanks

This is very inspiring. Had a good sort out today. I do stock up for our household on soaps / bubble bath / deo etc and for me my issue is rosacea and always looking for the best thing to finally sort!

Rockingthelook - did you have absolutely no cleanser in your stash?!!

I'm in! I have so much. I've already put all the travel sized bits into a special bag (for all my exotic weekends away 🙄). I've had so many freebies I just need to use them up!

Earl grey I also stock up for kids but realising I’m teaching them my stashing ways! Eg son has two deodorants and I got him another for Christmas but there was no NEED as while it was on offer there are always offers! I should wait till he needs it and replace it.

BellsandWhistles- sadly not,do tend to use cleansers quite quickly in my house, 2 teens and myself, all war paint queens on a daily basis needing to be fresh faced at the end of it !

I’m in. I m trying to run down my stash, and now my DDs stash now that she’s a teenager.

I have enough makeup to last me a life time.

Rocking horse you’re off the hook then😄 see I’d see that offer and buy thinking I will always use a cleanser but without checking my stash whereupon if I did I guarantee there’d be at least 2/3 travel size cleansers.

Me me me me
-No more clothes, except basics
-Specifically NO MORE JEANS/JACKETS
-No more perfume and jewelery
-No more make-up (except the stuff I use everyday, eg when I run out of foundation)

I am only allowed to stash basics such as:
-Shower gel (no more than 5 at a time and AFTER I finish the unopened 12 shower gels I have Blush)
-Deodorant (2x max)
-Favorite foundation + mascara (1x each at a time)

Just picked up a no7 cleansing balm that I ordered a week ago, but I used my advantage card points to buy it.That’s it.

One tip I picked up last year on here is that if you have a load of half full lotions/conditioners/shampoo/shower gels, just tip them into one bottle. Most of the time they're much the same product with a different scent anyway! Also gets rid of travel size things.

I’m going to give this a go, I have hoards and hoards of minis. I spend quite a few nights per year in hotel rooms and I ALWAYS bring home the minis from the hotel bathrooms, I can’t help it. I think it’s because they are small and cute!
I’m not going to buy any makeup or beauty item until I’ve run out, that will force me to use my stash rather than ‘saving it for later’........

This is a good idea. I have so much stuff. Only thing I'll need to stock up on next year is conditioner, deoderant and body lotion

Clothes. I complain I have no clothes to wear but reality is I have wardrobe full of stuff I don’t wear. Then in the sales I look at stuff that I might buy and say to myself ‘but I have something like that already....that I don’t wear...’

I will start wearing what I have instead of buying more. This may mean being more organised and getting the outfit together the nigh5 before and making sure I have the right tights/underwear/shoes etc..

So today I clicked on an email through to a.website and saw a really nice skirt for £20. I have not bought the skirt! I went through my wardrobe and checked and I have a similar black and white mini. Whilst I want the skirt amd can afford the £20 I do not need the skirt. I am going to pull out the similar mini which has not been worn in about a year (cause I forgot about it!) tmw night for nye. I want the skirt I do not need the skirt. I will wear what I have and save money and stuff.

I am planning on doing a no spend on make up and toiletries other than topping up of essentials like deodorant and toothpaste.

My make up stash is ridiculous. I spent 54 quid on a blusher this year - bought it because I heard a make up person on a radio show say it suited everybody. It does not suit me, it is the most awkward container which is hard to hold and open. I feel a complete numpty. I also have a Chanel Les Beige powder which is not my shade. (Might put them on eBay - does used make up sell...) I bought loads of testers in different shades of a YSL foundation - spent 35 quid on those. Turns out I prefer my 5 quid Maybelline.

I have a Tilbury blush and eyeshadow on its way. That's it for me.

I seem to amass body lotion which gets put on once in a full moon.

(If you have some foundations that are too dark but you don't want to bin them, it's worth spending a fiver or so on the white drops to lighten them. I have a few foundations I intend to use up because I can now lighten them.)

This is a good idea. I came to the realisation this year that I seem to hoard moisturiser and hand-cream so I've put a ban on buying anymore except for when my everyday face cream runs out. I also went through my make-up and I swear there were things that had been there ten years. It is now decluttered and I've replaced a few things but I need to stop now because in all honesty I barely use any of it as usually I'm too lazy to put make-up on. I also have probably enough shampoo to last quite a while.
