So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

I watched the You tube video. Hannah Louise and it struck a few cords with me as to what my relationship is with stuff. The payoff of a rush of well being. I often feel bewildered when I pick up a piece of over priced junk that I have bought then forgot about.
Invest in my financial future

I am digging out the exfoliating gloves rather than buying body scrubs. Plus soap instead of showergel. Already gave up handwash ages ago, not missed. I used to buy expensive bath olis/foam. I now buy supermarket and have done so for past year.

sarcelle have you gone back to using bar soap for hand washing? Do you think it would save money for a large family of 5?

Was talking about soap instead of gel today with friends and whenbi look at the rack of gel in the cupboard, I think it in only makes sense all roynd

I thought I was the only one doing this as my NY resolution, then I found this thread- glad I'm not alone in have a cupboards and drawers overflowing with beauty products and toiletries. I have enough hand cream, body cream, bubblebath and cleansing stuff to last most of the year at least. I'lll need to buy toothpaste and deodorant and shampoo and probably shower gel though.

I'v also got a huge bag of travel sizes and miniatures that I've collected from hotels, gift with purchases, and freebies- I always keep them for nights away, but always come back with more than I went with!

Lovesliesbleeding1 I used to go through a lot of handwash, so I have definitely saved money. I would imagine that you would save money too. I buy the multipacks of Waitrose own brand, cheap soap and you get 4 bars for the same price as a cheaper type of handwash.

Well, sarcelle I have 3 hand washes to use up and then we will be using bar soap. I recycle everything, but I really want to cut down on plastic as much as possible, too. Thanks for the info, good to know as there’s a Waitrose in town.

I got a Longchamp Le Pliage tote and matching clutch in JL on Saturday. However not counting that as a fail as it was on my Xmas list and DH couldn't get it for me then, but it was in the sale and he said I could have it as the final part of my present Smile

Replaced shampoo and deodorant this morning but that's it for the time being.

Have joined r/MakeupRehab on Reddit and finding it very motivating. It's not a crazy busy sub, but several posts a day all the same. Everyone on a Low Buy or No Buy for makeup and skincare etc. Everyone posting their own rules they've decided for themselves. Useful to know what others have decided to do for their own circumstances.

Day 7 and my bank account hasn't any debits! Feels really good.

Tomorrow I'm going into town to spend my Xmas voucher on a replacement perfume (50 quid) . That'll be challenging but I'm feeling positive. Have decided if I can't get the one I want for 50 quid, say it doesn't come in less than a 50ml for example, I can put 20/30 quid towards it. Cos you have to be realistic about perfume. But that's it. No other purchases!

So far in January, I have thrown out and given away a few bottles of shampoo and conditioner I know that I won't use.
I have also used up two products, but unfortunately it's two products that I love, my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and a bottle of Alpha H Liquid gold. I had already bought a new bottle of Double Wear before Christmas in anticipation of the old one running out so no temptation there, but I will miss my Liquid Gold.

Do you have a stockpile of stuff that does the same job as the liquid stuff? If not, buying a replacement is surely a justifiable expense if it is something you use. I am not wedded to anything except my Sure deodorant, but if there was something I used everyday I would replace. It's all the trivialities, extra stuff of the same thing but different brands that I am not buying.

Is anyone considering using up their DP's toiletries?
My DH gets given loads of stuff from my DSIS (she works for a chemists), but to be honest he's a soap and water type of bloke. I've used his shaving gels to do my legs and nicked his deodorant spray when mine has run out.

I've just used the last drop of my Clarins Skin Illusion Foundation- I was going to buy more as it's my favourite, only to discover it's been discontinued and replaced with a new serum foundation of the same name. Oh well- will have to use up one of the other 8 bottles I have lined up on my dressing table Hmm

I'm in!

Make up wise I could easily see out the year by only replacing foundation and primer.

Fragrance is my major downfall, my en-suite resembles a stand alone Jo Malone shop. I have enough cologne for the year but will struggle to not purchase seasonal specials. Will need another body lotion by summer and I can live without overly posh body wash!

I have a drawer of skincare to see me through but will need deodorant, shampoo and conditioner.

I'm on a Replacement Only No Buy, which is less restrictive. Though you still have to use up everything in that category before you can purchase something to replace it. So for example if my skin relied on Liquid Gold and I had no other acids, I'd replace it!

I had to replace my perfume today so I bought a Replica one which is fabulous. My work fragrance has only about 5ml left in it. I am still forcing myself to use the last dregs before I open the new one!

And obvs that's the only perfume I'll be buying in 2019 as its 100ml so I'll definitely get the year out of it.

Unfortunately, I have quite a few other products that purport to do the same job as Liquid Gold so I really should use those instead. Its just that I think Liquid Gold is excellent; and I don't know how good the others are as I haven't used them yet, hence joining this thread Wink. I may replace it in a couple of months once I have given the others a try at least.

Please can I join you - I really need to STOP SPENDING!!!!!!

I don't have a HUGE stack of products but I do need to use up the things I do have, have a good sort out and STOP impulse buying things.

I have some credit card debt that has to go this year - I've just gone through and analysed the spending and 33% of it is me buying clothes / jewellery / skincare etc etc etc and it has to stop!

My plan is to not buy any new clothes / jewellery - I have plenty already and I need to go through it all and sort it out.

Toiletries / Makeup I will allow myself to replace anything I use regularly that runs out.

No fad or impulse buys

My birthday is in March so anything I feel the need to buy between now and then I will write down as possible birthday gifts.

I’m going on a replacement only basis.

Have so much that needs using.

I did buy two deodorants yesterday - had a Holland & Barrett voucher to use. I had one that expired but then got an email with another one!

I’ll need a mascara fairly soon too I think.

We r not buying anymore shower gel. Switching to bars of soap.
I don't buy cleansers as I got the face cloths.
However.
I really want to try flower beauty. Just the foundation.
It really is necessary as I have run out of estee lauder and nearly finished bourjois.
I want and need it.
CN anyone tell me if it is a waste of money and so a waste of a chance to buy a replacement item. I want to buy thoughtfully.
I watch reviews online but I know how much flannel is going on so would rather hear from someone o here

Thatsnotmybaby - that’s the spirit! I’m the same I’d replace without using up similar products. So I’m your case if use up everything similar and you still feel the gold is the best then replace when there is nothing else left in stash. Hopefully that will simply your routine and stop future hoarding!

Sweetheart- I’m the same with spending on impulse buys because it’s sort of mindless. I like the idea of having a list so there’s actually stuff you need or want for bday. I’m complaining kids get too much these days and mine don’t know the value of money or the waiting/saving for something but I’m the same sometimes! I have hundreds of pounds in products sitting around and don’t look toward to a birthday or Christmas as much as years ago when things were a real treat. Perfume used to be a lovely present now we just buy when we fancy/run out. It’s all about being mindful for me. I’d rather dorms the money on an experience amd have less stuff - or just more money even!!
