No spend beauty 2019

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

I’m in too. I live in Switzerland where everything is twice the price too, so have been wanting to address this for a while. Perfect timing!

Gender - if you put white mixer drops in Google you get all sorts of brands. I bought this one. I only got it recently, it's a simple idea that really works.

It is on offer at the moment on the site at substantially reduced price but you have to spend 15 quid for free delivery. I got mine at Boots and it was a lot more money. But lots of brands do them at all price points. I would imagine they are all of a muchness so worth looking in Superdrug as well.

Foundations that were too dark that were languishing in the bathroom cabinet are now usable. This will help me not buy any more bases for the rest of the year.

Here are some of the ways I’m planning to use up things;

  • broken Guerlain bronzer compact; I’m going to remove the powder, break it up, and add it to a loose bronzer I already have, to save wasting it
  • MAC pro-longwear foundation is a shade too light, so I’m going to buy a sample a few shades darker and mix it together
  • buy some nail polish thinner, so that I can finish my remaining bottles

Hi
I'm in on this as well.
I'm also doing the clothes one.
Come to the realisation that I have too much of everything!!
Hand cream and body lotion is the worst culprit so I have put them all over the house so wherever and whenever I am sitting down I can moisturise.
I have also put up lip salves in a pot by the front door so I can make sure I have one when I leave the house especially in this cold weather.
Does anyone have any more good ideas?

@heylala I have moisturisers and lip balm in my bags and in the car too Grin

Also remember hand cream can be used on the body too, we won't tell!

I’m in. I had a beauty box and calendar in December and have soooo many products it’s making me feel ill! I’ve started well by getting rid of 7 hair products to my young cousins, I think they might be in for a bonus makeup haul too.

I did one one year where it was low spend rather than no spend and that was really successful. I think I will do this with clothes but will have a total no spend on beauty stuff.

I'm in - I have so much stuff it's ridiculous. Off the top of my head I can think of 5 tubs of cleansing balm that are stashed about my bathroom and cupboard. I also have a huge number of face masks as my DP realised I liked them so bought some every time he was away.
I got £40 of Body Shop vouchers for Christmas but there is absolutely nothing I need. They're valid for two years so I'm going to keep them and use them to replace essentials when needed.

I'm in too. Annoys the crap out of me that there is not one clear space in either bedroom or bathroom as full of bottles, tubes and tubs in various stages of use. Also been diagnosed with mild eczema and psoriasis too so loads of new products for them too. Not sure how the feck I'm going to use up of them but don't want to bin anything. And makeup - I'd go get a new lipstick/mascara/whateverjustbuysonething every time I'd get my hair cut. This madness has to STOOOOOPPPPPP!

Oh, feel much better for that. Grin

(Just remembered that DH gave me a Boots voucher for Xmas and have another one stashed in the house too for emergency spend - that's £75 total - what am I going to do if no spend???)

Well vouchers are someone else's money, that's my attitude. I have a 50 quid voucher which I'm totally going to use as I am on the last drops of my perfume and need a new one. If my own wallet doesn't open, it's a no buy day.

I also have 2 pairs of trainers in the post that were ordered before my resolution - I wasn't intending to keep both pairs but rather choose between them and keep my favourite. Now I'm going to send them both back. I don't need them.

So I've made a very small start. I used up a sample sachet of Charlotte Tilbury healthy glow tint. I like it but do not need foundation/tinted moisturiser so won't be buying it.
I realised I don't have any heat protector spray left. I consider that a necessity as I blow dry and straighten my hair every day. I've got plenty of points on my Boots card though so I'll use them to get a replacement.
One of my issues is that I'll start a new bottle of something before I've finished the old one. So then I end up with loads of half used bottles. I am going to finish any of those before starting anything new.

People should check out hannah Louise poston on YouTube. She's just finished a no buy year and her videos through 2018 talked a lot about how she struggled and what she learned from the no buy.

I'm going on a low buy and am look at what I have before I buy new. My problem is I probably have a bit of shopping addiction becasue I get such a thrill from new things.

I'll have a look at her, thanks.

For me, it's initially going to be a No Buy Jan as if I think about the whole year its too overwhelming.

I'd be curious to see what her "rules" were.

Wow, this video is fascinating. She talks about all her buying behaviours prior to all this and its so insightful.

I can't relate to all, but definitely half. So interesting.

Right, well......
I have spent this evening getting out all my minis, GWP's, skincare stashes etc, yet to be opened make up items and so on and so forth. The photo does not include my shampoo/shower gel/current active make up bag or current skincare in use in the bathroom cabinet.
That is mostly the result of a couple of advent calendars, two Glossy Boxes and a few Clarins GWP purchases that I probably didn't need.

I have at least a years worth of body lotion, shower gel, shampoo, hand cream and toothpaste. At least two years worth of unopened mascaras, moisturisers, eye creams for day use etc. I may have enough unstarted eyeshadow pallets to take me through to retirement.

Ridiculously though, I have had to order night eye serum (Peter Thomas Roth) with retinol today as I am completely out. I am also nearly out of both cleansing balm and cleansing cream so will nip to boots in the morning to take advantage of the No 7 offer that's on at the moment. Out of my entire table of stash, none of them, bar one 25ml tube is cleanser (and that will last me approximately 3 days). I am also on my last deoderant so will stock up there too. That should do me for a good while. Oh, I also need hair dye as I have neglected my very silver roots.

I solemly swear I will not buy any mascara, moisturiser, serum, body lotion, shampoo, etc until I am completely used up. I am nearly out of retinol but have another in waiting but will need to repurchase in 6 months or so.

I will reduce my stash significantly. I will! And I will do my best not to be tempted by any Clarins goodies or Glossy Box offers or Beauty Pie subscriptions or any of that nonsense. I will avoid online ordering as much as possible and if I need something, I will go to Boots and get it in person. It's too easy to just slip something else in an online shopping cart and click checkout....

I felt I was missing out on a beauty advent calendar. I am so glad I did not get one. It's just an encouragement to buy more stuff.

I'm in. I have enough beauty products, clothes, shoes and handbags to last me forever what with the M & S advent calendar, beauty/bath products for Christmas and a couple of treats in the sales (REN Otto bodywash and body lotion set and Benefit tin with Porefessional, mascara and brow pencil) so I am all set.

The only things I will buy are shampoo/conditioner and deodorant. And I might need a new pair of flat black ballet pumps for work to replace pair that are looking a tad battered.

I'm in. I will need sunscreen at some point. But otherwise only essentials such as deodorant and toothpaste and I've even got a stash of those in case I can't get the ones I want from the end of March.
