So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

Another empty, lush sleepy body lotion

Peridot1 · 12/03/2019 08:05

Any teen girls in your life googleismyfriend - I know my niece would love something like that. I would happily give it to a charity shop though.

ElspethFlashman · 12/03/2019 08:53

Well done tinyradish those Bourjois bronzers take ages! Packed in like concrete.

Honestly I would dump those polishes. You didn't spend any money on them.

Another empty, a deodorant. Will replace this morning. So boring, lol.

I am starting a list on my phone which I am calling "Imaginary French Girl Edited Bathroom Shelf" and I am going to write down replacements that I really really love as I come across them. Cos I tend to forget how good things were and mess about with new products that frustrate me coughmascaracough .

My aim for 2020 is to have that shelf in reality in my bathroom, but I have to write them down first in order to do so!

I get paid mid month and looking at the month ahead I definitely cannot buy anything new. My DH birthday, a week away, dentist, and saving for new kitchen. A lot of beans on toast this month I think.

I am doing alright, got a bit twitchy the other day when I read about a new eye cream. I am running out of mine but the new one is three times as much so cannot justify it. My dark shadows are my bete noir but I have tried many creams and serums - the reality is they don't work, only make up covers them and then only marginally. So I have decided to buy the cheapest I can find in Superdrug just to moisturise.

I would like some new clothes but resisting. The trick for me is not to go in shops or look online, but sometimes I get dragged to shops by other people and whilst I wouldn't say it was torture not buying anything, its hard when something catches your eye.

Finished a foundation today

Inthetropics · 13/03/2019 14:11

I got a few producta as gifta ans have used up a body splash, so i'm ate 289. Ugh! I l9ve the fact that people are generour and want to give me gifts, but there's always a few products in these gift sets that i don't use. I've donated them but kept the ones i know i'll use.

Sometimes i get really discouraged because i havr tons of stuff and it seems like it will be FOREVER to use it all up. I know having such a big stash eill save me from from spedning money in the next years but i really miss being able to buy something that seems nice when i see it.

Inthetropics · 13/03/2019 14:14

So sorry for the spelling mistakes. My mobile screen is actiong out and when i type aomething, diferent letters appear. Not funm at all. Will probably have to buy a new phone soon but am delaying it as i don't wabt to spedn that kind of money nowe.

Peridot1 · 13/03/2019 15:18

Finished a pot of a Temple Spa hydrating mask this morning. It was quite old so I didn’t fancy using it on my face so used what was left of it on my legs.

Went to Boots yesterday to get hair wax for DS and that was all I bought. Tempted to look at a few things but resisted.

LHMB · 13/03/2019 19:16

Had to chuck a brand new Maybelline dream matte mousse foundation today as somehow I’d bought the wrong shade, it was way too dark. What a waste

Sarcelle · 13/03/2019 23:53

I bought some dental floss and cotton wool pads. That's me for the month. Oh the glamour!

I am taking a long time to use stuff up.

tinyradish · 15/03/2019 21:18

I'm chucking a Collection cream puff moisturizing lip cream - a shame as it's a lovely colour but so drying on my lips...don't know why they describe it as moisturizing Confused it's quite old so won't pass on to anyone else.

Also used a sachet of Garnier bb cream - I never use these sample sachets but have about a 100 of them! Time to get started. Really liked it but won't buy as it's not needed.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/03/2019 21:27

I bought three tops from M&S

I went shopping with DD and admired some jumpers ( H&M) but resisted .

ElspethFlashman · 16/03/2019 09:23

I resisted the M+S sale. Bloody difficult as I need a pair of black jeans. But they didn't seem to be one sale and I didn't want to buy them full price. But then the next day I was passing a Gap Outlet and I got a pair for 50% off so I got a sale pair in the end.

I chucked my cheapie mascara experiment, I'm done with Essence mascaras, I don't know why people eulogise about them so much, both just melted on me. Perhaps I have very oily eyes? Confused

So have replaced with my old reliable L'Oréal Lash Paradise. That's it, no more fucking about! It's not my Forever mascara as it only lasts about 6 weeks, but my search for a better one doesn't seem to be going too well!

And guess what? I got a present of 3 Ordinary products. Very kind but I don't need them at all! But I'll use them up as thankfully I don't have any back ups of skincare any more. One is the hyaluronic serum I already have opened which I don't actually love, but it's fine and I'll use it afterwards. The other two is the Buffet which is some general serum? I dunno what it does but I'll slather it on anyway. The last is Azaeliac Acid which I'm mixing with my night cream in the vague hopes it'll do something. Not sure what! Grin

The Weleda Skin Food has turned out to be completely unsuitable for day wear. It's sticky as hell. So I've swapped my Aldi Q10 night cream for day use as ironically it's much lighter. The Skin Food is working OK at night but it's probably ruining my pillow!

Sarcelle · 16/03/2019 10:00

Sali Hughes column today in the Guardian is best buys under 15 quid. I am tempted by a few things but will resist. Mentioning because she has included the L'Oreal Paradise mascara so you have made the right decision. You know it works. (Is there no panda eyes whatsoever?)

Weleda Skin Food, use it on your feet. Need to wear slippers while it sinks in. (I have a cheaper pair of slippers that I put on after foot cream.) I always take a tube of this on a walking holiday. Even my DH likes it....it gives you new feet!

ElspethFlashman · 16/03/2019 10:58

No there's no panda eyes but after 6 weeks it's so thick it's virtually unusable so I'll only get it when it's on offer as otherwise its too expensive to be replacing so frequently.

It's meant to be a dupe of the Too Faced Better Than Sex and it 100% is, that one dried out on me after 6 weeks too! Hmm

My feet tend to behave themselves during the winter but coming up to Birkenstock season I'll definitely keep that tip in mind!

Chickenvindasaag · 16/03/2019 12:24

Another empty, a dove conditioner. Only bought as it was on offer.
Will avoid reading Sali Hughs. I'm so bloody suggestable

woodhill · 16/03/2019 12:35

That Sali Hughes list was helpful- thanks. Particularly cruelty free products.

I think I believed most products now were CF but obviously not.

ElspethFlashman · 16/03/2019 12:54

Yes I read it and had to give myself a shake. None of them are going to change my life.

And actually some I disagreed with. I find the Kate Moss lipsticks to feel heavy, the Collection concealer was very pigmented settled into my lines and I had the ELF blush/bronzer duo for years and never rated it. The blusher was too light (and I'm fair) but the bronzer was too heavy. It was tiresome having to remember which side to go heavy/light on.

Peridot1 · 16/03/2019 13:16

Am not going to even look at the Sali Hughes article!

I didn’t rate the Too Faced mascara either Elspeth. I’ve never found a fan one so just tend to buy whatever. Using the Maybelline one in the pink and green tube atm. It’s ok. Cheap and I bought it in Sainsbury’s so it counts as household! Grin. Have a Bobbi Brown to go next.

I threw away a small tube of a Sanctuary moisturiser yesterday. Bought it in London last week as I ended up staying overnight unexpectedly and needed something. Just a travel size. Was very odd once one - pilled into little lumps if I rubbed my face.

I’m going away for the weekend on Thursday and am planning on sorting travel sizes of things to take and then binning what is left from my basket of travel sizes. A lot of them I have had for a few years.

For the Weleda skin food - might work as treatment for the décolletage area?

Sarcelle · 16/03/2019 13:17

I don't like the Rimmel lipsticks either. I would be interested in the hair mask but I don't want to spend that much. I might look for a sachet - I never use them that often so no point buying a tub. I might do without on the basis I was not going to buy anything. Perhaps if I shove a lot of normal conditioner on and leave it for a while, that will suffice. I have crispy ends at the moment and a long way off of a cut.

ElspethFlashman · 20/03/2019 15:35

I've just gotten a nice bit of pan in the eyeshadow I started using about 3 weeks ago. It had a dip in it but still I'm quite surprised. Very encouraging.

The one above is only clinging to the edges but is lasting a suprisingly long time! I don't need to use it but force myself to just to get rid of it. I definitely don't need anything that pale in the future.

Its just so cool to see actual progress!

No spend beauty 2019
Chickenvindasaag · 20/03/2019 21:37

I bought a soap. Ignoring the fact that I have years worth of soap. Seemed like a good idea at the time (on sale)
Well done on the pan elspeth

ElspethFlashman · 20/03/2019 22:29

Actually I see by this thread it was exactly 4 weeks. I use it 3 times a week, so it took me exactly 12 uses to hit pan on a slightly dipped shadow.

It is quite a soft shadow and I do whack the brush in there willy nilly, but still it shows you don't have to be using something for ages and ages, you just have to use it consistently rather than just picking it up once a month, in which case it'll take a year to hit pan!

LHMB · 21/03/2019 13:59

Finished a colour corrector pencil, started on a cc pallette. Almost used all my eyebrow pencil, foundation and eyeliner so bought more

Sarcelle · 21/03/2019 22:42

Used up a cleanser, bath foam and an eye cream. Moved onto my stockpile for both so no need to buy more.
