Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

Finished a body shop foaming face wash

LHMB · 22/03/2019 23:42

And finished another body shop body butter. Getting through them

Hippywannabe · 23/03/2019 10:05

I am joining in (again). I have literally hundreds of bottles and pallettes. DH says Soap and glory could contact me for help on the event of Brexit shortages.
Today I have used up a conditioner sample and the last of one of the S and G shower cremes.
This week I binned the rest of my Anais Anais perfume as I finally admitted to myself that I haven't really liked it since 1996 and just because I have it, I don't have to use it up. I think I have such a horror of wastage that I never want to give up on something.

ElspethFlashman · 23/03/2019 11:44

Good job binning it. It's recognising these things that's half the battle!

I binned the rest of my Ordinary Retinol 2%. There was a little bit left but I have come to hate it. It stays oily on your face for hours, it stings a lot, and doesn't seem to do anything. Or rather you'd have to wait years to see the benefit. What's the point?

Peridot1 · 24/03/2019 14:08

I haven’t actually gotten rid of or finished anything for a bit

But. Big but. I am away for the weekend visiting a friend in a country that has Sephora. I love Sephora. Love Sephora. Went yesterday. Guess what I bought? Nothing! Not a thing. Had a few bits in my hand but was just buying for the sake of it so put it all back. Unheard of for me.

I did buy some travel sizes of shampoo, conditioner and face wash coming through the airport on Thursday but only as I didn’t have any. Am using up some travel and sample sizes of bits that I brought.

ElspethFlashman · 24/03/2019 16:07

That was amazing self restraint. I am in awe! That would have been a massive test for me.

Today I managed to offload a blusher into a visiting friend who was asking my advice on which to buy. I said "Here, take this! And here's a blusher brush too!"

She was delighted but not half as much as me, getting rid of a blusher. It was a pretty one (Dandelion) which is why I hadn't binned it, but in all honesty was too pale for me so no loss.

tinyradish · 25/03/2019 22:39

Well done peridot, that is very impressive.

Dandelion is also too pale for me, Elspeth! Doesn't show up on my skin at all & yet I still have it sitting in my drawer...

Hippywannabe · 26/03/2019 07:15

Binned a container of blusher beads (those horrible blusher balls that get stuck on the brush and fall on the floor, where they promptly disappear until 3 weeks later when you stand on them and stain the carpet!). I think I have been using them since Ds3 was born (he is 28 next month) and although they were reducing in number, I have lovely new blushers. I am worth using the good stuff!

Peridot1 · 26/03/2019 08:51

It was a massive test for me Elspeth!

Also resisted any purchases in duty free yesterday. I had a lovely potter about looking at stuff but didn’t succumb to buy anything.

Only thing I bought all weekend was a couple of t-shirts and a shirt for DS and a pair of sandals in H&M for me.

Hippywannabe - thought I was bad with my 18 year old scented water up thread but 28 year old blusher is impressive.

ElspethFlashman · 26/03/2019 09:31

28 year old blusher balls! Were they Body Shop??

That's actually one of the reasons I never bought any of those balls. I was very close to being suckered into the Guerlain ones a few years back. But I just thought they would get messy and be never ending. A pot of dust with a few old balls rattling around!

My powder is really almost done, I'm literally scraping the edges with my brush. I have one in my bag, almost untouched but it's a Charlotte Tilbury. Previously I would have kept it for "best" and gone out and bought a cheapie Rimmel one for everyday. No more! I'm starting it next week! There's no such thing as "best" anymore!

(There was a great thread on that a couple of years ago about people's grandmas dying and they discovered all this stuff in their house they'd kept for best but never used - I must find it)

Hippywannabe · 26/03/2019 16:35

That was the thread I was thinking about too! Why was I sighing when using the blusher balls and Anais anais when I could be using the beautiful things and enjoying them?

tinyradish · 26/03/2019 22:23

Gutted to have finished a mini Emma Hardy moringa cleansing balm - it's so so so lovely. But i can't justify spending nearly £50 on a cleanser unfortunately. However I may buy the mini again in future as it lasted a while used in conjunction with my other cleanser.

Bought some concealer & mascara today as I'm literally scraping the last dregs of my current one. Also a mini dry shampoo for the hospital bag, some nail files, hair oil & heat protestant spray - all needed.

tinyradish · 26/03/2019 22:24

*protectant lol

LHMB · 27/03/2019 13:07

Thrown away a foundation and a primer today, the foundation didn't suit me and the primer made my skin dry and flaky

Finished a mascara yesterday. Well it had some more left in but was a bit glunky. Have a Bobbi Brown ready to go next.

moimichme · 28/03/2019 15:54

Finished a vitamin C sunscreen but my bb cream is - barely - still holding on despite almost daily use. I have ordered a 2-in-1 replacement but it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm glad the bb cream still has a bit left! Not been organised in the morning lately so progress on my eyeshadow is very slow indeed. Have been shopping my closet and wearing stuff that wasn't so suitable in the colder weather, so not feeling too tempted to buy clothing. Well done all on making progress!

Sarcelle · 28/03/2019 18:17

Had to buy a new mascara, I was down to a crusty mess!

I am on holiday and have brought the bare minimum with me. It feels freeing. Back to basics.

LHMB · 30/03/2019 22:44

Finished another body shop body butter

LHMB · 01/04/2019 11:40

Finished a Bourjois brow pencil

tinyradish · 01/04/2019 19:55

We're all doing really well!

Finished up a Lush 'Mask of Magnaminty' face mask which we really like & will buy again - still have money left on a lush gift card from Christmas so will wait until I need something else too & order then.

I do like to put a mask on once a week or so!

Sarcelle · 01/04/2019 20:18

I have product inertia at the moment. I am using the bare minimum. I won't be finishing anything soon at this rate.

LHMB · 02/04/2019 11:23

Finished a Wella professionals serum

Sarcelle · 02/04/2019 11:41

I am trying to use up a Becca Back Lit primer even when I am not wearing base. I looked a bit too glowy (sweaty) on my morning walk. But I will persevere, I am never going to use up my products at the rate I am currently using them if I don't pick one product and stick with it. I am also trying to use up an Hourglass blusher which I have kept for best. Except there is no best anymore.
