Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

Was really tempted by some body butters today but I’ve still got about 5 to use up first

ElspethFlashman · 06/03/2019 18:29

Well turns out one of the mascaras I bought last week gives me major panda eyes and has to be binned. Several of my colleagues told me to wipe under my eyes! 😳

So let's see how No. 2 goes. I'm glad they're so cheap, I'd feel awful binning it otherwise. As it is, I'm not best pleased.

This is what I forgot about mascaras, they're always an experiment. 🙄

LHMB · 06/03/2019 19:47

So I went into Superdrug today and after my nail appointment and ended up buying 2 perfume mists, as they were bogof, even though I’ve already got several to use up

Sarcelle · 06/03/2019 22:14

For a non smudge mascara try the No 7 one in gold tube, think it is called Stay Perfect. You don't get a falsh lash effect but you don't get panda either.

ElspethFlashman · 07/03/2019 07:22

Oh yes I used that a fair bit in the past. Got a bit tired of the faff of taking it off though. Sometimes you just need to be able to Swipe it off with a baby wipe! 😂

LHMB · 07/03/2019 16:04

Been going through my perfumes and fragrances, 2 perfumes I’ve gone off, don’t know if they’ve gone off, but they just don’t smell right, plus one fairly new unopened body mist that I don’t like the smell of, will see if my best friend likes it, if not, will chuck them

tinyradish · 07/03/2019 17:53

I took one of those pump hand creams in to the work toilets - we don't like it & it was sitting unused in our bathroom. Hopefully it gets used up there!

Bought some dry shampoo form savers (completley run out, need some for tomorrow as no time to wash hair tonight) & some mini toiletries for the hospital bag - shower gel, deodorant etc. Didn't get tempted by anything else :)

LHMB · 08/03/2019 16:32

Ended up buying 2 perfumes today, they just smell so good, really bad of me as I have loads of perfume to use yet

Chickenvindasaag · 09/03/2019 08:48

LHMB really really easy to do!
Does anyone else find this thread slightly enabling?l want a stay perfect mascara now! Grin
Finished a nesti dante cucumber soap. Very nice but smelt nothing like cucumber!

Chickenvindasaag · 09/03/2019 08:50

I did manage to return the sealed beauty product to boots. Apparently that's fine but you can't return the ones without a seal. Makes sense I suppose.

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2019 09:09

It's a pain in the arse to remove. You need hot water. I did love it at first but late at night when you're tired and you're faffing about with hot water and cloths.... And if you don't get it all off you wake up with spiders legs hanging out of your lashes and you end up picking them out.

Honestly it's great for a day you need mascara to be absolutely indestructible, but I didn't like it for everyday.

Meanwhile #2 of my cheapie mascara experiment is only so-so. Some definite shadow under the eye but stopped short at Full Panda. I did look tired and it was the mascara. Not me! Very frustrating. But I'll keep trying it next week and decide then.

Have hit pan on my bronzer and blusher. Very exciting. They'll both last ages yet, but it means they'll both go this year!

Am down to 1 night cream, 1 day cream, 1 sunscreen, No shower gel (using family stuff), 1 body lotion, 1 shampoo, 1 mascara, 1 eyeliner, 1 eyebrow pencil.

Have thrown out 2 eyeshadow palettes, 5 lipsticks and 4 lip liners. Have completed 1 eyeshadow.

Still loads of categories I have to get down to 1 but I have done loads since New Years and it helps to write it down!

Peridot1 · 09/03/2019 10:12

I don’t not find the thread too enabling as although as I read I might think I want a product that has been mentioned I will then stand in Boots desperately trying to remember what it was!

Bought a heat protection spray yesterday. Went high end and treated myself to a Bumble and Bumble one. Much more expensive than I would normally buy but I figure I have saved so much not buying other stuff and th ends of my hair are very dry even though hair was cut only a couple of weeks ago.

Made a decision on body butters. Chucked the one I opened a few weeks ago. Used it a few times and find it just left a greasy film on my skin. I have a few more and although I hate throwing things away they are at least six years old so I don’t think I can pass them on to anyone. The one I opened smelt a bit off.

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2019 10:33

I think we can make a blanket rule: IF IT'S 6 YEARS OLD THROW IT OUT! 😂

This is the problem, we keep things for years and years and we honestly don't realise how long it's been.

Let's make it out goal for next week - let's really try to think what's the oldest thing we own and chuck it in the bin!

Peridot1 · 09/03/2019 11:03

You are so right! Grin

Confession time. I have a bottle of scented water that I bought in Singapore as I liked the label. Have never used it. I bought it when pregnant. DS is almost 18! Blush (I still like the label!) Grin

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2019 12:02

Dump out the water and repurpose the bottle! Can you use it for flowers?

Peridot1 · 09/03/2019 12:37

Not really. It’s going. Glass bottle so it’s recyclable. Although maybe I should try an antique shop? Grin

Peridot1 · 09/03/2019 12:39

In other news have three body shop body butters to go. Discovered a Soap and Glory one which I used this morning and I don’t mind - it’s def better than the body shop ones. So I have used that and will use regularly till it’s gone.

Also used my new heat protection oil. Like it a lot. Hair feels swishy.

Bellsandwhistle · 10/03/2019 12:11

I’ve finished a perfume from m and S advent. Have just counted and have 4 more M and S perfumes and 3 Estée Lauder ones. A few were gifts do not necessarily what I’d choose myself. Must spray liberally and top up so I can use up all amd get back to one signature perfume!

Chickenvindasaag · 10/03/2019 12:22

Thanks Elspeth that's definitely put me off. I'm very impressed with your only 1 of everything. Add a 0 and that's me Blush I'll work on the 6 year rule (I deffo don't have a 21 year old eye shadow hanging around somewhere)
Peridot I agree, chuck the water!

LHMB · 11/03/2019 13:03

Finished an Avon perfume and a body shop body butter. Started a new body shop body butter

Peridot1 · 11/03/2019 13:15

Finished a GOW Vit C serum. Have half a bottle of another serum to finish up now.

Haven’t gotten rid of the water yet but I will this afternoon! Grin

I forgot t update that I chucked three eye liners last week. All dried out Stilla ones.

Peridot1 · 11/03/2019 15:01

The water is gone! It was an eau de toilette. Also emptied is a bottle of an anti mosquito cologne that came in a big glass bottle so I didn’t take it on holiday. I had ordered it online so hadn’t realised.

tinyradish · 11/03/2019 15:20

Well done Peridot :D

Finished a Bourjois chocolate bronzer - literally used it to the very end. Replace with another Bourjois chocolate bronzer that I had waiting....

googleismyfriend · 11/03/2019 15:40

Not sure what to do with a Christmas gift of 8 mini Marks & Spencer's nail polishes. I never wear nail polish and I only like 2/3 of the colours. I tried putting it on eBay but only got a 99p bid and I know it's worth much more, not sure what to do with it Blush. I know this is bad but I find it so hard to get rid of 'naice' stuff like this to the charity shop, although I'm fine with donating clothes...

Chickenvindasaag · 11/03/2019 17:32

Foodbank google? ive definitely put cosmetics in there before. Or wrap it in some charity shop clothes and try not to think about it.
