SOTD is MG Fire. Divine spicy, peppery rose and incense. Thank god I have 150mls of it stashed away Grin

4160s end of January sale, you say? I am running out of CVC...maybe I'll sell some other stuff on ebay to justify that purchase.

My Liberty voucher is still burning a hole in my pocket, but dp and I have got a fab day lined up at the end of the month when I can spend it. I'm getting a Cowshed massage in the morning (another Xmas present from dp, love him), then a trip to Liberty to buy (probably) a bottle of Heeley Hippie Rose (unless I change my mind before then), then lunch at Kerridge's and then to the Barbican for something arty that dp wants to see before drinks and home! A proper treat day!

I can't wait, Mrsr8 Grin January is such a grey and depressing month, it's good to have something special to look forward to.

MrsLucas · 11/01/2019 11:24

That sounds great Fennel.

PP order arrived. Smile Their take on Sahara Noir has absolutely no similarity to the real deal, (although there is a very distant hint of Youth Dew). But it is a very pleasant soft powdery frankincense, and will be good for wearing when in pyjamas. It is simple, but it gets away with it, as it's a very satisfying smell if you are a frankincense nut like me. Might be good for layering and for spraying around the house with abandon. Oddly there is a distant hint of Youth Dew.

Then their is 'Astray Fruit' - no idea what the inspiration for this smells like, but this opens with the most fabulous blast of sour cherries and almonds, which gives way to something a bit more toasty and woody. (Could be persuaded that this smells a bit like my Grandfather's unlit cherry pipe tobacco).

Intense, but less sharp, dark and earthy than Evil Max (the only other sour cherry I can think to compare this with).

I'm desperate to seek out the real deal now as this is a great cherry, especially at the start. Floof - was it you who went for the melts? If so, will be interested to see what you think?

I hope you friendly perfume lovers can help me. I want to get a new fragrance or two, but have no idea where to start. Random testing has proved fruitless, so I need guidance.

I like D&G Light Blue, but have been wearing it for years. I did also take to Hermes Eau d’Orange Vert, but have got fed up with that. I don’t like anything flowery or powdery (hope you know what I mean by that).

Any pointers to the kind of fragrances I should be looking at would be very, very welcome. I await any tips you’re able to give and thanks in advance.

Ooooh, what did you order from Les Senteurs, Mrsr8? I do love that place.

Lovely Smile

I have to stop myself, pretty much every day, from taking a detour home from work via Les Senteurs.

It's a fairly big detour, to be fair, but worth it...

fennel that sounds like a fab day. Please report back on the massage!

SOTD was PP fireside. Could still smell it after the worst commute I've ever experienced (explosive baby poo + sling + packed tube), which is impressive seeing as I was sweating like never before.

Calmanddance · 11/01/2019 22:08

I was following elephants today. They stomped through a clearing, crushing grass and flowers as they went and when they stopped a friendly one let me cuddle up against his sun-warmed hide. Disclaimer: I have never actually cuddled an elephant but if ever I did I know it would smell just like the amazing sandalwood drydown of Zoologist Elephant!

I have an Avon dolphin containing Moonwind, a pretty green floral with oakmoss and vetiver. It doesn’t seem to have deteriorated at all, despite there being no box when I bought it from eBay.

Hello Coming, you could try Hermes Rhubarbe Ecarlate, Hermes Un Jardin en Mediterranee or Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Toit. If you can access a large department store, some of the Annick Goutals are beautifully citrussy and/or herby. Or Chanel Cristalle might suit you.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/01/2019 22:37

SOTD NRFH, but now in Liz Earle 15 and pyjamas.

fennel I have Heeley Hippie Rose and love it, but it doesn’t last brilliantly on me. I also have Sel Marin and Cardinal, which have much better staying power.

Bluesheep8 · 12/01/2019 08:32

Love reading this thread. You are all so knowledgeable! SOTD Liz Earle no 15.

Bluesheep8 · 12/01/2019 08:34

What are your opinions on E.L cinnabar? I've read that it has patchouli in (my fragrance obsession) any descriptions or opinions on this one?

Thanks mrs8, is there a good amount of patchouli would you say?
