Thanks so much for the heads up MissB Shock Sad news indeed. Just to say I heard this from a friend if you do immediately run and place an order and get the free gift offer, you can choose the Bourbon Vanilla. Apparently Wink

Kalifornia I am not expert enough to recommend a "proper" dupe but have you seen if the Perfume Parlour does it?

Judy is cat-face's medication liquid or powder? Could you mix it into some lick e lix? When we had to do it, the vet advised us that to prise her mouth open we should "simply" roll her in a towel and make a cat burrito...I think we still bear the scars Grin Lick e lox worked better!

I am still bitter about missing out on the Sleep Knot in the sale, so SOTD is Doe in the Snow, not my top favourite but it was the obvious for today Smile. Lots of snow here and an unexpected snow day for the DC!

FloofyCat · 30/01/2019 16:45

Lick e lix not lick e lox! I suppose she is technically a Jewish cat Grinbut she doesn't actually like smoked salmon Hmm

Destiel · 30/01/2019 17:15

kali or Aramis? Or kouros?

KaliforniaDreamz · 30/01/2019 17:49

Thanks Floofy i will check that out.

Destiel ahhh, Kouros. no THAT takes me back....

Destiel · 30/01/2019 17:55

My brother and dad wore Paco Rabanne.

UnnecessaryFennel · 30/01/2019 19:01

So...Lightning Ridge arrived. It's rather exciting. I don't think it suits the cold weather but I shall definitely be wearing this a lot in the spring.

It's definitely got the cold-stone-and-incense vibe of Avignon, which is a fabulous surprise. But there is also the familiar slightly fruity-ish 4160s note, which I think is actually orris, and slowly-emerging vanilla/patchouli base. It's a shapechanger - perfect for a scent named after opals and lightning.

I like it very much, and for a completely random blind buy it's an absolute cracker.

MrsLucas · 30/01/2019 19:11

Kali - yes, PP have 'Faarenheight for Men' in stock. Smile I want some now too.

Perfume folk do always seem to be friendly. Do we swap because we are friendly or does the swapping make us so? It is an interesting sub-culture - please can I do a PhD on this? All my hours on Mumsnet could be recast as ethnographic research Grin Grin .

MrsLucas · 30/01/2019 19:12

Oooh Fennel - that's dangerous feedback on the eve of pay day! What do you think Opal Sweets would've been like with the addition of vanilla and cedar?

UnnecessaryFennel · 30/01/2019 19:22

Well, anything with vanilla is ok by me MrsL so I'd be pretty happy with that Grin

A perfume PhD sounds blissful!

Destiel · 30/01/2019 19:28

I wish I'd bought the opal sweets now :(

CocoMadwoman · 30/01/2019 20:18

Evening fragrant ones.

I want to do a perfume PHD, too! Grin.

I’m still recovering from the flu, but back at work (boo). Struggling a bit, so had a nice hot bath tonight, then slathered myself in the BodyShop vanilla chai body butter and spritzed on some Teint de Neige.

I currently smell like baby powder on steroids...but feel wonderfully cosy 😊

Georgianfairy · 30/01/2019 20:26

Damn, I wrote a massive message and it's disappeared! Anyway to sum up:
Love the idea of a perfume PhD MrsL!
Yay to snow day Floofy, not enough snow to close schools here but I was glad to be working from home!

Payday today so have been buying samples all over the place! From Les Senteurs: AT Le Maroc pour Elle, PHI Une Rose de Kandehar, Carillon pour une Ange and Papillon Angelique. From FeelUnique: RL Woman, Mugler Aura, MMM Mutiny, Floral Street Chypre Sublime and My Guerlain.

Going to hold out until my birthday for the Replica mmm set as JL vouchers are an easy buy for people and I can hopefully sample some more new perfumes in store!

auberginesrus · 30/01/2019 20:39

Hello wine, I'm also working my way through the MMM sample set - my immediate reaction to smelling At the Barbers was that it reminded me of my Dad in the 1970s (although I had mistakenly dabbed it under my nose so it was pretty strong). I may get dh or ds1 to try it Smile

I've worn Sailing Day today - lovely and fresh, like a salty sea breeze - I really liked it but didn't really suit the snowy weather. Should probably have gone with By the Fireplace. I've had one ds off school (high school) and one in (primary school). That went down well. I chickened out from attempting my mammoth commute and worked from home, and I'm jolly glad I did - had to cancel the cat's mouth check up as it was like an ice rink on our estate and local main roads were fairly gridlocked.

WineNotTea · 30/01/2019 20:49

Evening ladies, have any of you joined a monthly perfume subscription? I’m just considering all options of trying as many scents as possible before buying full size. My suspicions are that it’s better to buy samples from retailers such as Georgianfairy has just posted but just thought I’d ask here.

TIA!

CountFosco · 30/01/2019 21:08

Oh I LOVE Nuit de Bakelite, count. Be interested to hear what you make of it - it's odd but wonderful imo.

It started with a strangely medicinal note then there was tuberose then it went bitter green but still with a touch of tuberose. Really liked it (DH rolling his eyes!) and it lasted forever.

Winenottea I had a bloom sample subscription last year which was wonderful but has given me expensive taste in perfume, you do get 10% off the perfumes from Bloom but for some they aren't the cheapest option (for others they are the only UK supplier). Going to spend this year trying boxes from TPS instead I think.

KaliforniaDreamz · 30/01/2019 21:11

Yes good question - i have bought some samples from ebay but some are pricey £12.99

off to buy some memories, i mean after shave.. (too dim to do strike out, sorry)

MrsLucas · 30/01/2019 21:12

I did Scent Addict for a bit which is pretty good if there are mainstream classics you want to catch-up with, but once you've covered that ground, it's time to quit.

The Bloom annual subscription looks a completely fantastic way of trying out interesting things - but you need to pay upfront I think? (And, added together, it's an off-puttingly large sum for samples).

MrsLucas · 30/01/2019 21:30

Scent Addict seem to extending their range a bit. Had a quick look just now and there are several from Juliette has a Gun, and Jeanne Arthes, as well as some of the more interesting Cartiers. 8mls is a good amount to receive. You can give things a proper try.

Destiel · 31/01/2019 07:57

Sotd yet again pp by the fireplace!

Perfect for a cold, foggy day.

UnnecessaryFennel · 31/01/2019 08:05

Yes, all the Naomi Goodsir scents have excellent longevity. They are really high quality imo. Pleased you liked it, count. I've not worn it for yonks but might dig it out later.

SOTD so far is Take Me To The River, which is growing on me, but slowly. As a Talking Heads fan of many years standing, I think perhaps the name gave me unwarranted high expectations Grin

Working from home today, in fingerless gloves and a scarf. Crikey it's cold. Although not as cold as Chicago, from where a friend who lives there sent me pics yesterday. Good grief!

Ollivander84 · 31/01/2019 08:22

SOTD - Cool Water Pure Pacific

Georgianfairy · 31/01/2019 08:26

Oh dear, I appear to have bought some more samples this morning. Nose.fr this time and I had a few goes with the diagnostic until I got a selection I fancied. Portrait of a Lady is one of them, which I'm excited to try.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 31/01/2019 08:52

SOTD MMM By The Fireplace (joining the club!) and yesterday was FM Hiver. It is absolutely perishing cold here today, but no snow, thankfully.

auberginesrus · 31/01/2019 09:14

Chloe Nomade for me, fast becoming my go to scent for work. Sitting in car contemplating icy walk to office and -2.0 degrees!

teta · 31/01/2019 12:21

Sotd is Eau d iparie by L Occitane. Its become my go to this winter. Not too heavy, green and warming at the same time in this freezing weather. It was -5 this morning at 8 am and we have some snow forecast. But I don’t think it will be enough for a snow day much to my kids disgust.
