Oh dear coco
Some nasty bugs around atm.
Glad you're feeling better.

auberginesrus · 24/01/2019 20:02

Sounds like we need to put a red cross on the door of this thread to warn others we're full of plague! Hope everyone under the weather is feeling better soon.

Wore Lipstick On today, loved it and can still smell it very faintly on my wrist Smile

Calmanddance · 24/01/2019 20:21

CountFosco and MrsLucas, I’m undecided about which way to go. I loved Zoologist Civet so much, but think I may love Beaver and Dragonfly almost as much. Also Bat, although this is more off the wall. And I haven’t even tried Camel and the new ones coming out later this year. The Nose subscription may be the way to go. But, you’re quite right, MrsL, I do love the process of opening the delightful magnetic box of Elephant, before reading the evocative description of the perfume to take me on the journey .... I will do some more testing and think on it for a couple of months. Would certainly be willing to do a shared order or bottle split if that’s the best way to go.

Yesterday I wore Dragonfly. On me this is almondy heliotrope and iris with a musky base. It is a very light, ethereal perfume. There are all kinds of other floral and base notes in it but underlying them all is rice which makes it very long lasting. The rice is not the fragrant basmati rice, but rather the soft smell of cooked plain or pudding rice. It sounds really weird but is actually very beautiful and easy to wear.

auberginesrus · 24/01/2019 20:26

I had a tester of Dragonfly from my trip to Bloom - I agree its lovely

CocoMadwoman · 24/01/2019 20:40

Dragonfly sounds lovely. I love heliotrope and iris.

Georgianfairy · 24/01/2019 20:41

No worries at all floofy, hope your hands feel better soon Flowers. And hope everyone else feeling under the weather gets better soon!

SotD MFK Baccarat Rouge (PP version but smells exactly like the real deal).

I'm enjoying hearing how you're getting on with the replica set aubergines, I'm 90% sure I'm going to get it too. I found out yesterday that the job I have been acting up into for the last 18 months is officially now mine so I deserve a treat, right?? Grin Although I will then need new birthday ideas... Hmm

Calmanddance · 24/01/2019 21:04

MrsL I’m appreciating the vintage perfumes much more nowadays so will definitely look out for some Femme. I was so indignant at your description of Mure et Musc as having a bathroom cleaner opening 😱, I had a little spritz this evening. It is certainly different in the cold weather and the opening on me had a strong citrus (bathroom cleaner?) as well as the blackberry. In the summer the opening was hardly citrussy at all, just a beautifully fragrant ripe blackberry. So, not as nice in the cold weather. The drydown is just the same, though, as you found, a long lasting blackberry musk.

Fanny, I am also a 4160 New York 1955 fan . I hope you feel better soon after your surgery. Take it easy.

My SOTD was a Bloom sample, UNUM but not today . It is named after a phrase in The Silence of the Lambs, when Hannibal Lecter says to Clarice Starling ”You use Evian skin cream, and sometimes you wear L'Air du Temps … but not today.” It is a very weird perfume, starting off bright and metallic with a kind of sicky note. Then there’s some camphor like notes, drying down to a strong animalic accord, like a vintage perfume that’s turned a bit. There are some floral notes in there and it’s not unpleasant, but a bit too much for me. It’s over £200 a bottle!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/01/2019 21:15

SOTD Diptyque Philosykos. I coughed so much last night I was actually sick, so didn’t go to work today. I think I will be in trouble because I was off before Christmas with the same bloody thing. Really I should have taken the time I needed then, and it wouldn’t have lasted six weeks.

MrsLucas · 24/01/2019 22:42

Sorry about the M&M Calm. I was shocked. I usually really enjoy it, but I spent the day catching wafts of bathroom, then realising it was me Shock. I think the cold really brought a mint note to the fore, as I was also thinking about Herba Fresca.

You should definitely try Camel before you decide ( a very kind Perfumista, who I am not sure is still posting here, sent me a sample). I think you might really like it. It's an unusual, dry, smoky incense/musk. I don't get the dried fruit notes at all. It's more complex and much softer and subtler than ELd'O's Amourette, but they both have an unusual smoky with a hint of something unsettling moment at the start. Plus it has a big civet note Smile.

Speaking of which, do try and get vintage Femme at parfum strength. It is the most fabulously sensual thing I've ever smelt, and the marvel is that it does this in a naturalistic way. It seems to sink into your own skin and light you up from the inside out.

I like Bat. (I have only found two perfumes that make me laugh out loud each time I wear them and this is one of them). I like Civet. I'd need to toss a coin between Elephant and Camel.

Destiel & Coco, thanks for explaining your latest regenerations. Hope that's it for a week or so on the NC front or I'll have no chance of keeping up.

Destiel · 25/01/2019 08:31

I might try the PP prada today

auberginesrus · 25/01/2019 08:46

I'm in Lipstick On again, will branch out to something eye tomorrow Smile

Mrs L, Bat is the only perfume that has made me laugh out loud when I smelt it. Wasn't brave enough to try on skin though!

teta · 25/01/2019 09:13

Nerolia bianca today for pilates. My tumble dryer has broken so all our clothes are drying in the kitchen- old cold house and this is the warmest room. But all the clothes smell of cooking. Hence anything fresh and orangey is good.
Judy i can’t believe you are still ill with the same bug. I love everyone’s perfume descriptions. How come they don’t smell the same on me.

CocoMadwoman · 25/01/2019 09:47

Mmm I like Nerolia Bianca, teta. My favourite Aqua Allegoria.

No SOTD yet, as I’m only just coming out of the flu fog and my sense of smell is shot to bits. Just had a nice long bath and slathered on some BodyShop British Rose body lotion, though. Soothing.

MissBattleaxe · 25/01/2019 10:39

Fennel- some perfumes really help with hangovers. I used to wear Eau de Cartier even through nausea. So light, like Angels gently mopping your brow.

MissBattleaxe · 25/01/2019 10:40

SOTD- using my Carnal Flower sample because I am deep cleaning the house between writing jobs. I like to smell gorgeous when I'm doing donkey work.

MrsLucas · 25/01/2019 15:04

SotD is Bat. Doing a stinky experiment with hair colour remover today Shock, and the smell of dank sweetcorn underpinned by vetiver/mineral gloom, is providing much needed relief.

Destiel · 25/01/2019 15:26

Not sure about the PP prada tbh

Might change up to an AT later

Georgianfairy · 25/01/2019 18:02

Perfume Society are offering a FB of Charlotte Tilbury with new subscriptions if anyone is interested? Details in the attached pic. I've previously had a subscription, it was worth it IMO and would be even more so if you were London-based and could attend the events (I couldn't attend the only one vaguely near me as had other plans).

Has anyone tried the CT? It had fairly good reviews on fragrantica.

I've spent a good part of this afternoon narrowing down the Tauers for my discovery set, think I'm there, just need to wait for payday now!!

Innocent Dave is not here, it's just the friendly perfumistas thread no 19!
CocoMadwoman · 25/01/2019 18:13

I love the Cartier/‘angels mopping a booze-sweating brow’ image, Battleaxe Grin.

I still can’t smell anything much, but have got two samples of Chance flankers (Eau Tendre and Eau Vive) that I really want to try tonight. Just in preparation for the needfor citrusy, fresh summer fragrances, you understand.

The fact that it’s January and I’ve just had the flu must’ve sent me delirious...

UnnecessaryFennel · 25/01/2019 18:13

Hope I'm not going to be the bearer of bad news here Georgian but Tauer doesn't ship those sets to the UK, sadly!

But you may not be in the UK, in which case, enjoy! Grin

Calmanddance · 25/01/2019 18:20

Apologies accepted, MrsLucas! I am over-protective of Mure et Musc. It is definitely in my top 20 perfumes, maybe even top ten. 💕 I do think it suits my skin particularly well. But even so, I didn’t like the citrus note I caught yesterday. I didn’t catch any mint, but will now have to look out for it!

Will definitely have to try Camel. I’m already making a list for my next time at Blooms.

I do need to know, MrsL, which is the other perfume besides Bat which made you laugh out loud? I had the same reaction to Bat - so clever the way it transports you straight to a bat cave.

Georgianfairy · 25/01/2019 18:25

Fennel noooooooooo!!! Shock How absurd! I am in the UK, sadly. Back to the drawing board then to find a UK source as I neeeeed to have them now!

Thank you for the information, much better to find out now than at the checkout stage!

Calmanddance · 25/01/2019 18:37

Georgian and Fennel, Andy Tauer does send individual samples out, but not the Discovery sets, last time I tried. They’re quite expensive, but beautifully presented. Last time I ordered two, and got an extra one for free together with a personally handwritten scented note from Andy!

Calmanddance · 25/01/2019 18:39

Les Senteurs, who are the sole UK supplier, may also send samples?

Georgianfairy · 25/01/2019 18:47

Thanks Calm, I've found them on Les Senteurs but 4 samples is the limit so I'll have to decide which one I like the sound of the least!

How lovely that you got a handwritten note!
