Thanks for a new thread Queen 👸

So sad how Diana went from a delicious buxom wench in her black taffeta during her engagement, but the onset of bulimia meant by the time she was married (so a matter of months) she had lost all her curves. So young (19-20) too. My eldest is 18 and I could not in a million years imagine her getting married in a year! Then the incredible weight and symbolism of her role - the mind boggles. How on earth as a nation we could think it was a excellent idea to foist PC onto such a naive young girl just shows how we love a good storyline!

It’s a miracle really that Diana did find the strength to fight her corner and retain her sanity.

I have been wondering in the past couple of days if Meghan shouldn’t embrace the “bewitching social climber” role the tabloids are thrusting on her. In all the big budget soap operas the female baddies always get the best clothes, best storylines and are just much more exciting all round. Maybe that’s why so many seem willing to get on the band waggon of demonizing Meg, they (unconsciously) want a gorgeous villain in the RF to balance all the tweed and corgis. Being a baddie is just much more glamorous, naughty and fun. Princess Margaret did her best in the role for most of the ‘70s.

Max looks fab as usual, Mathilde not so much. The proportions don't look quite right on her.

ElspethFlashman · 20/12/2018 07:18

Mathilde has a really really short waist and really long pins. So she can look scrunched if she doesn't get the middle part right.

She really looks best in things that have no waist seam at all, like evening gowns.

Clionba · 20/12/2018 07:41

Mathilde is so elegant. Her hair always looks chic, not too quoiffed but never messy.

I hope the link works. Kate took Charlotte to a rehearsal for The Nutcracker and said that Charlotte loves to dance. Just like Diana. Aw bless 💕

Becles · 20/12/2018 08:36

@IdaBWells I now have a vision of Meghan channelling Alexis Colby...

itswinetime · 20/12/2018 08:39

So Now the Buckingham Palace lunch is done does that mean the queen is off to Sandringham today? Then I'm guessing the next we will see is Christmas morning?

IdaBWells · 20/12/2018 08:46

Becles exactly. Although to be fair to Meghan the press is really scraping the barrel over what is supposed to be evil and and destroying the monarchy these days. Such horrors as dark nail varnish, bare legs, too much smiling and telling people what you want without apologizing. They are desperately trying to convince us of feuding duchesses but it doesn’t seem to be sticking. She needs serious schooling, Joan Collins could probably be summoned if necessary

Becles · 20/12/2018 08:59

Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Plus Alexis had some amazing outfits. ..

CrookedMe · 20/12/2018 09:38

Did Mathilde fall into some mustard during dinner??

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/12/2018 10:07

Doesn't it just Sad Some of us said at the time that it had disaster written all over it - and some of us got absolutely slammed for it

Don't get me wrong, I was never a slavish Diana fan, but to see her go from a young, hopeful lass to a traumatised shadow was just plain tragic

Moononthehill28 · 20/12/2018 10:11

Completely agre about Diana. I am the same ago so always followed her life with great interest. Also had two sons with a similar age gap. You can just see the despair and misery in her face in so many photographs where she is caught off guard at some dreary function, dressed like a woman twenty years older. Heart breaking.
At least Kate and Meghan are you f women with education and resilience. She was just thrown to the wolves.

Moononthehill28 · 20/12/2018 10:11

Young women

Moononthehill28 · 20/12/2018 10:17

I also suspect Camilla would find it much harder if she didn’t have Ray Mill to retreat to, and her normal children and grandchildren. Diana has no retreat and very little support.

Moononthehill28 · 20/12/2018 10:18

Had not has!

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/12/2018 10:42

I think I said it on a previous thread, but I wonder if Camilla would've been happy to stay as Charles' partner rather than marry him and then take on the duties and visibility that come with being a 'working' royal? I got the feeling that after all that happened, maybe she felt she had no choice but to marry him.

Nice to see the trees at the front of BP, thanks for the share Pupsie sounds like a fun night Xmas Smile

AhoyDelBoy · 20/12/2018 10:53

I really need to google the full Charles and Camilla story I think Confused

AhoyDelBoy · 20/12/2018 10:56

Diana is noticeably thinner in that second picture Betty but I think the angle of the first photo and the fullness of the dress contributes to her looking quite big busted in the first. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t recall Diana being buxom.

EmGee · 20/12/2018 11:00

Has anyone read the Penny Junor (sp?) biography of Camilla? I think anyone involved with the RF must breathe a huge sigh of relief when they can slip off to their 'own' families for a bit of normality even if it is a very privileged normality by average standards!

AhoyDelBoy · 20/12/2018 11:00

Since we’re talking about HMQ this photo is worth a look Shock

AhoyDelBoy · 20/12/2018 11:15

HMQ & family: Christmas Card 1979 can you spot the cute little photo bomber? That can’t be Zara, surely? They used to be quite a good looking bunch Hmm

WipsGlitter · 20/12/2018 11:28

Placemarking!

Was that pink dress on Kate yesterday really the same one as years ago?? It looks very shiny in the older pictures.

SenecaFalls · 20/12/2018 11:36

I think the little photo bomber is Peter not Zara based on the date.
