Agree with curly that the maternity dress is very megan/katey

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/12/2018 22:02

Those two pics of the Queen are stunning ... it's all too easy to forget just how beautiful she was

FATEdestiny · 19/12/2018 22:03

In relation to the coronation gown posted earlier, what is Charles likely to wear for his coronation? Will it be a bespoke one-off outfit or a military uniform?

mmmgoats · 19/12/2018 22:08

oh wow, I've been away for a week and there are endless threads to catch up on! WHAT HAVE I MISSED? Everything it seems.

Hope the threads have managed to say lovely and light, they're such a relaxing respite from the world.

Glad you and your son are home Year, I hope he's on the mend now and you manage to have a nice christmas x

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 19/12/2018 22:15

Looks like Charles will be wearing something like a Garter outfit for his coronation. Knee britches are not flattering.

Bedtime check in for me, Year I'm pleased to hear your DS is home. Thanks for the new thread Queen

I was a bit intrigued by the idea that Meghan was recycling a dress from 2016 today, how on earth would it fit with her new bump? Maybe she wore it like a tunic over leggings......Grin Kate's round neckline made me itch looking at it, how she can wear things right up round her neck and be comfortable I just don't know (I mentioned before how I can't stand round necks on me) so I didn't like the outfit today just for that non reason.

You are three pages in already?! Thanks for the new thread! Wine

Another view of what George VI wore.

Surely Charles will be in uniform, in this day and age? I'm all for stockings and suspenders but generally I prefer to be the one wearing them Grin

SenecaFalls · 19/12/2018 23:04

I thought about that, too, that maybe he would be in uniform. But the coronation is an ancient medieval rite, and continuity is important. So I'm not sure he will wear a uniform. At one point, he has to be in a white linen garment for the anointing; the Queen wore hers over her dress. It will be interesting to see.

AhoyDelBoy · 19/12/2018 23:10

I can’t wait to see the coronation

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 19/12/2018 23:11

HM glamming it up back in the day.

In fact very similar to the first evening dress Diana wore on one of her first evening public engagements, which I think was thought of as rather risqué so for the Queen it must have been considered very daring.

I love that picture of the Queen in the lace dress. And note she is showing her toes. Shock

Moononthehill28 · 19/12/2018 23:30

Year I should have sent my congrats you too on your son being home!
Thank you Queen for all these threads and the wonderful chat!

Rhubarbisevil · 19/12/2018 23:35

Yes, the HMQ and Diana black dresses are very similar. The only difference is that Diana was buxom before her marriage.

YorkshireIndie · 19/12/2018 23:38

Wonder if MM is trying to wear non maternity clothes as KM did that

Pupsiecola · 19/12/2018 23:43

I have a lot of catching up to do. But a friend and I have spent the evening in London looking at the lights. And we saw someone leaving Buckingham Palace with police outriders: chauffer driven Range Rover. We think it was Charles and Camilla. Here is a pic of the palace.

And not quite so buxom after

Boned corsets were revived in the 1950s, e.g the Merry Widow. Dresses were sometimes boned too. According to Ma'am Darling, Princess Margaret was still wearing corsets in the 1970s, and the metal bones would set off alarms in detectors at airports, much to HRH's annoyance.

Year glad to hear you and DS are back home, hope you have a peaceful Christmas. Flowers

Thank you for the new thread.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/12/2018 05:18

@BettyBoo, love those strapless dresses.
The Queen looked utterly gorgeous, as did Diana

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/12/2018 05:24

Here’s some close ups of what Maxima wore to the Schoolband Gala.
I like the Turquoise jewellery. It’s very Maxima, however not very Christmassy. The pants look fab, she’s got very high platform heels on underneath to make her legs look really long.
