Can't believe this thread is almost full

I loved Kate & Meghan's outfits today

certainlymerry · 25/12/2018 23:39

I thought Meghan looked good. Liked Kate's outfit but thought she looked very thin and tired. Loved Anne's outfit. Not keen on Sophie's coat at all! Eug and Beatrice not keen on their outfits. Thought Zara and Mike looked great together and liked her outfit. Kate and Meghan looked perfectly at ease together! No sign of any conflict. Harry always seems to look tense and miserable these days. What's up with him? HM looked great.

KimchiLaLa · 25/12/2018 23:45

Megan's outfit looked amazingly cheap but cost upwards of £3k?! I just don't get it. It looked like it was from M&S. Kate looked impeccable as usual.

PawneeParksDept · 26/12/2018 00:24

Isn't a hat fairly compulsory for ladies attending church with the Queen?

It was very much expected in general when the Queen grew up and she's stuck with it over time

Thesearmsofmine · 26/12/2018 00:38

Kate looked fantastic today! Love that colour on her. I think Zara looked lovely too and Lady Louise and of course HM.

Lomondstripe · 26/12/2018 01:16

@Rhubarbisevil I would be beyond shocked if a royal wore HC - neck and hand tattooed models in their advertising and gossip regarding the owners family (albeit purely gossip). Growing up as a (not royal, but they did visit) estate worker child, that’s not a brand any of them would be caught dead in. Worn only in our area by estate tenants. Not being a snob (as I say, I grew up as the help!) but just my tuppence!

Paradyning · 26/12/2018 02:03

What's HC @Rhubarbisevil?

Lomondstripe · 26/12/2018 02:08

Sorry @Paradyning - Holland Cooper

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 03:35

@Lomondstripe being very nosy, but do you have any stories about when the royals came to visit; who? and what are they like?

Also agree, HC is such a chavvy label

user1457017537 · 26/12/2018 07:01

I thought the children were quite poorly turned out, no Christmas outfits in sight and looked like a lot of hand me down outfits. I don’t mean to go low but I like seeing children well turned out and smart.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 07:04

Morning everyone! How are we all recovering from Christmas Day?
Saw this video of church on the Sunday. (DM link)
It wasn’t just Sophie in the car with HM.
There was Edward in the front and Lady Louise sat in the back opposite HM.
Then on Xmas day; Andrew rode with her. Which makes me think HM is trying to spend equal time with all of her children; which is lovely.

Also something struck me; that you don’t need to curtesy if you’ve already seen the Queen that morning. So on Xmas day, William & Kate bowed and currseyed as they would have been at Anmer. But so did Meghan & Harry. Which makes me think they weren’t at Sandringham at all but maybe stayed at Anmer too.

OlennasWimple · 26/12/2018 07:05

I liked the Xmas church outfits in general, but please, Edward - step away from the double breasted stuff!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 07:06

I thought Isla and Savannah looked lovely, and kudos for Autumn putting them in high street monsoon.
Louise was in a hat & matching coat and James Severn was in a suit. He looked like he could have done with a coat, but that’s about it.
I’m wondering how much smarter they could have been ( powdered wigs perhaps?!)

Ps @Queen, if you are awake, time for a shiny new thread!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 07:09

I think the double breasted overcoat is a Royal thing.
Edward viii used to always wear them

YearOfYouRemember · 26/12/2018 07:12

Meghan probably curtsied as it would have been uproar in the media if she hadn't as not everyone understands the rule. It's probably in private that they don't have to do it on the second and subsequent sitings on the day.

queenofarles · 26/12/2018 07:25

maybe i will be thrown out of this thread for saying it , but honestly , except for her Majesty everyone was a let down, DoC coat was beautifully cut but very predictable . and was it red and raspberry? DoS looked very mismatched and like everything was thrown on hastily without glancing at the mirror plus i really hate VB clothes so maybe my judgment is influenced by that ? Grin

TipseyTorvey · 26/12/2018 08:06

Morning everyone. Happy Boxing Day!!! DC stayed up so late I got a lie in til 8am. First time this year! So does anyone know when the next royal outting is so we can continue our helpful commentry? Thanks so these threads I'm now aware of the court circular thingies so I'll mooch over there and have a look if no one knows :)

IdaBWells · 26/12/2018 08:11

Hello all! Still Christmas Day here (11:48pm) West Coast USA. Thanks so much for all your photos and commentary, very much appreciated by those of us on the other side of the globe.

I liked both DofC and DofS and thought they both looked very pulled together, in actually a classic example of each of their preferred personal style for these types of events. I think the DofC has developed a uniform for herself over the years, she knows what works and fulfills all the criteria and for her the coat dress is a great look. Her amazing waist (!) and after having a bambino earlier this year. As I have declared before I am in the pro the headband camp. It's almost a holding piece to prepare us all visually for the day a crown will be in that spot! The headband has the height and proportion at the front as if to remind us all that she is a Queen in waiting.

Meghan looked absolutely fine and very comfortable for a woman well into pregnancy. I personally found her monochrome look a bit dull but at the same time faultless. We know the DM and a large contingent of their readers have the knives out for her and everything she says and does (or doesn't do) will be wrong. If you are neutral however you can only say that she is poised, relaxed and didn't put a foot wrong - how anyone can find poison in a woman walking to and from church with her husband on Christmas morning must have a empty life.

I wasn't crazy about most of the other outfits.

I wanted to agree with a previous poster that Louise is the standard bearer for the Windsor genes in her generation. She is absolutely the spit of all those female royal grandchildren and great-grand children of Queen Victoria from over a century ago!

Peter and Autumn's little girls were adorable and very animated. And for some reason Zara and Mike had the look of the landlords of the local pub this morning! Maybe it's their robust cheerfulness Xmas SmileWine

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 08:20

And there I was thinking that this thread would last longer as we'd all be busy with our families over the festive season! Clearly there were a lot of us sneakily Mumsnetting under the Christmas table as this one has filled up quicker than the last few!

New thread is on its way...

@TipseyTorvey
I woke this morning thinking the same thing and so far, its just Princess Anne kicking off on the 3rd January. That woman loves to work.
Also, there has been talk of Meghan and Harry doing a tour of the US later this year. I assume they'll take the baby, so that will be huge!

Also the Emperor of Japan is abdicating at the end of April, and Crown Prince Naruhito is ascending on the 1st May. I think the coronation ceremony is later this year, so that will be hopefully chock full of Kings, Queens, Crown Princes & Princess etc.

Lady Gabriella Windsor is getting married in the Spring. Her birthday is St George's day, so I am guessing the wedding may well be on the 23rd April, which is the day after Easter Monday.

The of course we have the impending arrival of Baby Sussex which could be any time from beginning of March to end of April...

UrsulaPandress · 26/12/2018 08:24

Good point abot Kate's headbands foretelling the crown!

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 08:25

Some photos of Princess Mary, Anne's predecessor as Princess Royal. HM and Princess Margaret resembled her a lot. She was only in her 60s when she died but looks older in the last picture.

@IdaBWells
I like the fact that Kate has found her "look" with the headband thing.
It may not be fashion, but it is her style and is very regal.
I think her daytime style (working wardrobe) will not vary too much over the next few decades. Shes had her 3 children and is very disciplined, so I think we will be seeing some of those coat dresses in later years!
