Diana was also miserable on the yacht before they arrived at Balmoral. According to her, Charles largely ignored her and they were never left alone. I agree, she probably overlooked the happier times later.

Clionba · 24/12/2018 14:56

Elspeth - you're right. When they were photographed on honeymoon and in the early days, Charles and Diana looked happy, they were quite touchy feely and giggly. At times, she looked thrilled to bits. Maybe as time had gone on, she may have been able to look back and see the positives a bit more.

AdaColeman · 24/12/2018 15:04

From the reports of Kate's shopping trip to The Range, they all mention trolley loads of books etc, so I'd guess she was shopping for the Estate workers Christmas party or perhaps gifts to sick children/orphanage etc, which is a nice Christmas thought.

Spudlet · 24/12/2018 16:16

Harebell Stick something like 'ladies field coat' into google and you should get lots of options. Or 'tweed shooting coat / jacket'. I want one but I can't justify it right now - soon though! A proper shooting one will be toasty warm.

I get the distinct feeling that you need to enjoy robustly outdoorsy pursuits to really enjoy Balmoral, and Diana never really gave that impression... she was always so glam and stylish, and Balmoral is somewhat tweedy. And chintzy. And tartan. All in one room Shock

I’m confused by DoC in the range. Maybe the Norfolk one is a better store, but our local one is seriously rough.

She must have realised she would be seen and photographed. I think it’s great she’s doing normal things with her children. But can’t imagine what she would want in the range, but as I said ours is full of tat and nothing amazing.

TheCraicDealer · 24/12/2018 16:25

My money is on Philip passing away some time in 2019

DH has a mate who is one of a few fellas who are in charge of stores which hold some specialist ammunition, used for those big guns that they fire when a member of the RF dies. He's been told that he and his colleagues are now on a rota and when they're "on" they're not to go more than 30mins from camp at any time. I read a blind gossip thing a few weeks ago that he's seriously ill (cancer was mentioned) and he's not expected to last much longer. Very sad, explains why the palace were so non-commital about his attendance at both weddings this year if he is so poorly.

ElspethFlashman · 24/12/2018 16:29

Maybe King's Lynn has very little in the way of shops, I dunno.

Reports say it was colouring books and crayons so I'm guessing it was just supplies to keep the kids from climbing the walls.

It's also possible she said to herself "why do I always end up in The Range when I come here? It's proper shit, Innit? Fuck he's demanding dinosaur slime now, fat chance of getting that out of the fucking carpets. Siiiiiigh....."

megletthesecond · 24/12/2018 16:31

windy if you think The Range is rough you should see a Range outlet store.
Disclaimer; I've been known to stock up on kids craft packs in The Range on grotty winter weekends.

WindyWednesday · 24/12/2018 16:35

I’m not saying the range is rough. Only our local branch is pretty rough. I’m sure there are better range stores.

Laiste · 24/12/2018 16:53

Range outlet Shock

user1457017537 · 24/12/2018 16:54

If the DOC was shopping for estate workers or an orphanage shame she couldn’t buy them something decent if The Range is so bad.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/12/2018 16:56

Maybe King's Lynn has very little in the way of shops, I dunno Was there a few years ago and wouldn't say it had many shops of interest....

Clankboing · 24/12/2018 17:06

Our Range is great. Two of my children are doing GCSE Art and it's cheap for different varieties of paper, art resources such as watercolour or gouache paint, scrapbooking, clays. Many places that sell art resources are not as cheap as the Range. It's no fun to do all shopping online and Kate's children need some normality.

WindyWednesday · 24/12/2018 17:09

Ours sells dulux paint, that perfectly fine. But there is a lot of tat. It is good for craft stuff and fairly cheap. Maybe the children are making their own thank you cards.

itswinetime · 24/12/2018 17:17

The range has great craft stuff and loads of those paint a pot/unicorn whatever kits that kids love and at a good price. I wonder if we have a sneak peak at what will be going on in the nursery tomorrow.

As for snapping a shot tricky as long as it isn't to intrusive (which these don't seem to have been) and the kids aren't in them (which they aren't) I don't think it's that out of order all celebs have to deal with it these days. Plus if helps someone make some money over Christmas as long as it is done the right way I don't have to much of a problem.

LaPampa · 24/12/2018 17:22

I think it’s a Dubarry coat (according to my fave Kate blog fromberkshiretobuckinghamshire) - I’ve a non branded shooting jacket from a country fair made out of similar tweed / wool and it’s still going strong, warm and waterproof nearly 10 years on. Might be tempted by a Dubarry upgrade though

Laiste · 24/12/2018 17:34

Our range is an Aladin's cave for tat Grin The kids toys and crafts is good. The kitchen plastics (sieves, funnels, food nets, basters, tupperware ect) is good. Pet stuff is good if you can find the brand which you use. Sawdust ect. Xmas decs are good when you need quantity over quality. Recently bought one of those 'pop up' laundry baskets for a couple of pound. I walk in thinking i need one thing and come out with arms full.

I too think DofC going to the range is a bit odd. More about being seen going to the range than about having a need to go to the range iykwim.

(i'm still boggled at range outlet)

Laiste · 24/12/2018 17:39

Now i've been googling shooting jackets and i've seen this and i love it! Great price. I want it. But i don't need it. Oooooh .... Damn this thread Grin

Spudlet · 24/12/2018 17:59

Laiste You must buy it and then go to the New Years races at Cheltenham, so you can wear it. Along with a big fur hat (preferably fake fur though I think those ones Kate and Pippa wear may be the real thing!) Grin

Rhubarbisevil · 24/12/2018 18:02

That’s nice -laiste but nothing beats House of Bruar! Grin

I love The Range and I is Heva So Posh. Fab stocking fillers for the kids.

YearOfYouRemember · 24/12/2018 18:08

Apologies as I've said something similar before. These are such lovely threads that it's rather an unpleasant jolt when posters insinuate that one of the Queens children is not Philip' and also discuss his demise.

Does anyone know if Edward and Sophie's children have been in the Christmas visit to church photos or what age the younger members start attending the Christmas Day service? I'd love to see George and Charlotte running along though walking with the Queen and holding her hands would be gorgeous.

Rhubarbisevil · 24/12/2018 18:12

I take your point year but sadly we will see some changes within he next 10 years. It’s fact, not gossip.

But yes, back to the clothes. What time is the church service tomorrow? Let’s do live commentary (if we’re not on the egg nog).

ElspethFlashman · 24/12/2018 18:19

I'm praying for some decent shoes this year. Not a mass of practical but dull knee high stretchy black boots. I mean it's not THAT cold.

TipseyTorvey · 24/12/2018 18:25

I agree Elspeth, the stretchy black boots have been making an appearance for too many years now. Maybe they need Michelle Obama's sparkly thigh highs from the other night 😂. Or at least some funky patterned ankle boots. What time is the church walk does anyone know so I can log on just to check the outfits?

Clankboing · 24/12/2018 18:44

Most services are at 11am so I would guess around that time.
