Yes, that shocked the whole family, they nearly lost her. Louise, too. By all accounts it changed Edward for the better, having that experience.

Rhubarbisevil · 23/12/2018 14:04

I read once that the lesser royals arrive first. The more important you are, the later one arrives. So Prince Charles will be the last to arrive (assuming that Prince P is already there). That’s probably why the Wessexes are already in situ.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 23/12/2018 14:05

The Wessexes seem like a lovely tight knit family. I remember how the whole family was waiting for Sophie after a charity bike ride & the hugs were genuine warmth.

Look at Edwards’s face!

Not sure if this will work

I wonder if the Queen ever thinks "I've been doing this for 66 years, it must be someone else's turn to host Christmas...".

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/12/2018 14:12

Some of the staff probably think that!

WindyWednesday · 23/12/2018 14:15

Such a lovely photo of Edward and Sophie, they seem to close. How lovely. Maybe that’s why the Queen is so fond of Sophie, the only one of her children’s marriages which has lasted.

Rhubarbisevil · 23/12/2018 14:21

My DH once saw Edward in a car going through Covent Garden on his way to The Ivy. Apparently Edward has a very serious, but interested, look in his face. Sadly DH forgot to see what Edward was wearing!

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 23/12/2018 14:24

Agree Sophie's style has got much better, maybe as she has become more confident in her role? She's got a lovely kind face, I hope she is a lovely person!

In other news, I saw this picture of Empress Michiko from Japan earlier at the Emperor's final address to the nation.

I'm not sure the colour flatters her unfortunately. And I don't know if it's makeup, but she looks like she's got a ski goggle tan on her face?

Rhubarbisevil · 23/12/2018 14:34

Oh yes! Either that or she put a massive eye mask on before going under the sun bed.

I love Sophie’s hair when she wears it down. She planted a tree on This Morning in the summer and it was all golden curls and beautiful- it made her look 10 years younger!

WindyWednesday · 23/12/2018 14:38

I think Sophie looks like a really kind person too, she looks warm and friendly.

I know HMQ has been portrayed as a cold mother, but I actually don’t think she is. I think she’s very maternal. I watched a programme about the royals and when someone died (can’t remember who , Mountbatten?) Their child was send to Balmoral and HMQ ran down the corridor to greet the child, scooped them up and fussed over them like a mother hen.

ElspethFlashman · 23/12/2018 14:41

Apparently she has a temper though. She was photographed going through her PO for a shortcut one time. I've always wondered what happened to warrant it!

She's quite strict with the kids too. But that doesnt mean she's not warm and kind, I've been known to lose it on occasion and I'm lovely! GrinGrinGrin

DontCallMeCharlotte · 23/12/2018 14:53

Sadly DH forgot to see what Edward was wearing!

I think we can safely assume it was a double-breasted suit Xmas Wink

Clionba · 23/12/2018 14:56

going through her PO
I don't know what that means?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 23/12/2018 14:58

I was about to post the same Clionba

AdaColeman · 23/12/2018 15:10

I don't think that the Queen was especially maternal as a young woman. In 1949 she went to live in Malta for two years to enjoy the fun of being a Navy wife, she's said it was her happiest time.

Charles, who was one year old at the time, was left behind in England.

beanaseireann · 23/12/2018 15:16

Grinchly
If the poster is in US she may not have had a chance to see Curly's very ** early morning post.
She may be in Denmark though as it has been mentioned elsewhere.
I don't envy anyone who is bringing up two children on the Autistic spectrum, life must be challenging at times. It was mentioned on a post on another thread.

I saw Prince Harry uptown in the week driving a Range Rover. There were however about 10 police outriders escorting him and clearing the way. I do hope this isn’t going to be a regular thing when they relocate to Windsor. The police would be better of trying to stop all the murders and stabbing sin Central London.

Rhubarbisevil · 23/12/2018 15:22

That’s a bit of a promotion. A friend said that last year he saw PH being driven through Windsor Park with just the driver, like a very posh uber.

👍🏻

Maybe because it wasn’t Central London and the Queen resides at Windsor Castle and it’s private property. I live in Central London and the outriders are a common sight. Trust me they don’t stop at traffic lights and think nothing of inconveniencing members of the public.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 23/12/2018 15:32

I thought the royals don’t stop at traffic lights because of terror threats?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/12/2018 15:34

I wonder if the Queen ever thinks "I've been doing this for 66 years, it must be someone else's turn to host Christmas..."

Tempting to wonder, isn't it? But then she's hardly racing round making up beds, wondering if she's ordered enough food and all the rest

Nor should she of course, but her position means she gets to enjoy the nice bits about hosting without the hassle ... and it's not as if anyone's going to nag her if she wants to put her feet up for a bit

On the subject of Philip being driven around, I think I read that he uses a black cab as one of "his own" cars ... more anonymous, apparently

PawneeParksDept · 23/12/2018 15:36

I saw that same program @WindyWednesday I'm pretty sure it was two of the Knatchbull children but which two I can't recall Timothy and another I think
