I loved DoS's coat and shoes today. I wasn't too enamoured of the dress, but wouldn't go so far as to describe it as a disaster. She's so pretty, I'm sure no-one noticed the fit or the low back.

I feel very sorry for DoS. So much crap to deal with while she is relatively newly-wed and pregnant. Hope she managed to ignore the haters and her appalling attention-hungry paternal family.

And I'd think an OAPs home would be a place to dress a bit more conservatively.

I seriously doubt that the residents of a show business retirement home are all that conservative. Maybe Oscar lunch was the look she was going for.

True @SenecaFalls, they were in showbiz and have probably seen it all!

Did anyone see the blatant coat flick as she got out of the car? In the short walk from the car to the door, she flicks her coat open twice to give a better view of the bump.

And it does look like Charlotte got her hands on Kate's eyebrow pencil and decided to use Louis as her model !!!

Maybe I'm clutching my pearls unnecessarily I think it was maybe the fact that it's so gloomy and winter-y that made the low back etc a bit more jarring than otherwise. She's certainly had a lot on her plate recently with her nightmare family so maybe wanted to wear something a bit more cheerful after the criticism for wearing lots of black and navy.

I thought she looked nice. I loved wearing tight stuff when I was pg. At least she's not dressing like Kate when pregnant - all terribly dull sensible.

The dress is seriously awful. I suspect she has an image in mind and does not always take advice.

The retail version of that dress that someone linked to (with bigger split) didn’t look good even on the model - it has a strange fit.

I just don’t get why expensive dresses are made out of polyester. One of the other royals was wearing something the other day that cost twice as much as that dress and that was also 100% polyester.

I think we mostly agree that MM is very good at coats and is rather beautiful. Had she only kept that coat belted she would look rather iconic.
I have a theory about an inner conflict of styles. Like any person marrying up a class or two, MM is faced with expectations to dress the part. A battle against conservatism and frumpiness then ensues, with the young person eager to retain their identity and not be swallowed up by the bourgeoisie-ness ie the establishment. This retention of identity is key but will fade after a child or two 😆
I think some of MMs outfits reflect a refusal to be crushed by conservativism, but she is toning down her glam hollywood style (fantastic awards dress) and something isn’t working.
I dont think Jessica Mul. is necessary any good best at dressing a Royal and someone like Phoebe Philo needs to be consulted fulltime.

desertgirl - How does she keep her shoes on? It looks as though they are loose at the back ... or if she has a magic way of walking in not-close-fitting very high heels!

This was discussed a bit on one of the very early threads. There's lots of pics online where it's obvious you could get 2 or 3 fingers down the back of her shoes. The one's in the engagement photos particularly. She's got really narrow feet as well.

Today i was trying some sky high stilettos on and - channeling the DoS shoes too big thing - i tried on a size too big for me (6.5). I can walk in heels, but i thought perhaps if you walk a certain way these too big shoes will suddenly be actually comfortable to walk in. Careful as i could i aimed for the mirror. I tried a couple of times but just walked straight out of them. I don't know how she does it, unless she has double sided tape on the bottoms of her feet

She has / had a massive bunion so the bigger shoes may accommodate that.

Yes maybe. Logically though shoes that much too big would still slop up and down. And with such nice quality shoes and access to all things wonderful you could get them stretched in the right place for the bunion. Or x bunion :)

I absolutely love her shoe choices, her feet and legs always look so elegant, she really has a great eye for a lovely shoe, here is a little homage to a few of my faves!

Yes the navy sparkly sling backs are exquisite.

I loved those plum velvet too queen. Made a nice change from all the neutrals.

She wore them on a visit to Northern Ireland Queen with this outfit, I think they may even be a deep rust colour, yes I loved Kate’s plum ones they are very similar.

Don't forget it's the rock'n'roll generation that are heading into old folks home now - they haven't magically turned into Victorians just because old folks homes were full of them in the past.

Am only on Page 27 but had to post to say to @Rhubarbisevil that my in-laws go most years to Sandringham on Xmas morning - like you, we are about 1.5 hrs away.

They love it and says it's a fab opportunity for photos. You have to get there VERY early though! 😮
