Made sure my autocorrect didn't spoil that title...

As always, let's keep it light and avoid any spite!

@Bloominglovely I don't think William would be like Wax of the Netherlands who seems perfectly happy (and proud) at the way Max completely outshines him.

Bio from me: I'm 40, and struggling to squash down my angry inner Republican.

I've been massively anti-royal really, but my life has parallels with W&K so I guess I've got more interested recently.

I do like keeping an eye on the clothes etc, but it makes my blood boil to see the unbelievable privilege some people enjoy, purely because their great great great great Grandad was some kind of big shot.

BACK TO THE CLOTHES BEFORE I LOSE IT Grin

Just for comparison with the Xmas card, here is the save the date for Meghan's first wedding. The romantic back view is clearly a look she likes.

Just catching up on a few things

The Sussex's card I'm not a fan but I also think if Meghan donned some tweed and went for a country walk she would be criticised for faking it! She doesn't come across (I don't know her so I maybe wrong) as a country girl there ya nothing wrong with that! I have said it before I will say it again she isn't Kate she doesn't have to act like her! It's their first card and they went for a image from one of the biggest days of their year. I get it and interestingly or not depending on your opinion when Eugenie revealed a previously unseen photo everyone love it! I think the thought was right the execution missed a little but they have lots of time to get these things down. Plus cards with kids will always beat those without I think so the Cambridge's had an advantage this year!

As for introductions im mid 30s from London would never have thought I was a royalist particularly but apparently my Nan influenced me more than I realised. I have meet the Queen, Charles and Camillia (don't get excited it was the briefest of hand shakes when they have visited various places I work/have worked.) I have also met William in his previous job very briefly and all I can say is he was very professional, all very dull compared to some of your stories I know. Family members have met other royals through work, Harry and Anne seem to top the list for most interesting/funny people to meet in my family anyway!

We lived in Germany for six years until 2016 and tights on baby boys, kindergarteners and younger grade boys was completely normal, although usually worn under trousers as they got older. For the same reason as girls, the winters could be freezing! Absolutely bitter cold. The “boys” tights in H & M and C & A ( yes they still have them there!) would be navy, brown and grey.

Catherine very likely has seen them on young European boys when after skiing, they sat around the fire drinking their warm apple juice!

Bloominglovely · 15/12/2018 02:46

You don’t have to look far for boy’s tights. Slugs and snails is a small independent company I buy from and they specialize in boy’s tights!

itswinetime · 15/12/2018 02:50

It will be interesting to see what Meghan and Harry dress the baby in. I know there is a 'traditional' style for British royal children and lots of recycling (didn't even notice till it was pointed out we have seen Charlottes Cardigan before). But I'm hoping Meghan and Harry update things a bit.

I had never seen or heard of this photo before this thread.
Was it widely published at the time?
It’s a pretty out there composition given the subject, even for today.
Kate wearing the lovers knot Tiara. !

I think Baby Sussex will be dressed in ethical, organic baby clothes in neutral colours, white, beige, grey, navy.
If it is a girl, I’m think she would be named after a notable feminist or suffragette, with Diana in there as a middle name...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 04:31

The Poltimore Tiara could also be worn as a necklace ( and 3 brooches).
Was sold by Christie’s in 2006
Looks like it was bought in 1959 before Margaret married

Sale of Princess Margaret’s jewellery. It raised £10million

mathanxiety · 15/12/2018 05:35

Hello all!
I am Irish, living in the upper midwest US, five DCs mostly grown and flown the coop, one in her final year of school. Early 50s, republican and Republican (though Democrat in the US). I am interested in the history of the monarchy and also in continental European and Scandinavian royal houses. I think what I feel about the British RF is morbid fascination, though I may have inherited from my dad (an Irish RAF pilot from 1936 to late 1940) a lot of respect for George VI.

AhoyDelBoy · 15/12/2018 05:40

Comparison of Diana, Wills and Charlotte, she’s her Daddy’s daughter!

AhoyDelBoy · 15/12/2018 05:41

Love the closeup of Louis!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 15/12/2018 06:18

True curly I'd never seen that bath shot before and can't quite believe my eyes!

Imagine if Meghan did that now

Paradyning · 15/12/2018 06:59

It's wonderful isn't it!

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 15/12/2018 07:02

The Cambridge kids are an extremely good looking bunch! I love that close up of Louis. My DD1 used to make a face like that at that age. It makes me all warm and fuzzy!

Lots of us from the east midlands on this thread!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 07:03

Louis is 100% Middleton, or rather that should be Goldsmith as he looks just like Kate & her mum. U think we have a right character in the making.
No wonder Kate can look knackered by the time it gets to evening functions. She has 3 very lively children! And thank goodness they all have personality. They will be an interesting future generation of Royals.

YouCouldBeMe · 15/12/2018 07:34

Would love if this was really them & not their waxworks

Sorry if this has been shared I'm a little behind

Morning all.

Just want to reiterate what a lot of others have said about these threads. It's my first port of call in the morning and just before I got to sleep at night. Such a great bit of escapism from the real world!

I'm late 30s, London, run my own business, one DC. I ride and have 2 horses. I won't say much more than I 'mix with the set'.

Can we steer away from the bashing and stick to the fashion? That photo of Margaret is stunning, she really was a trail blazer. I wonder if she ever gave Diana any pointers in life.

Love W&Ks card, just like any other family at heart, all about the children. Louis is so squishy!

YouCouldBeMe · 15/12/2018 07:39

I love the new Royal Christmas cards!

Great share of the Hello article Curly. I agree I would be very unhappy if I were one of the divorced parents to not spend Christmas Day with my children

TipseyTorvey · 15/12/2018 07:47

I've seen that bath shot of Princess Magaret before and agree of MM tried that she'd be sent to the tower by the DM readers. I wonder if the renewed furore around brexit at the moment (which I won't go into on this lovely thread obviously ) isn't stirring up a lot of racist and anti immigrant sentiment which MM seems to be the embodiment of. She's come over here and taken the job away from a nice English girl etc. I'm impressed she's even leaving the house - I'd have found a country bolt hole and stay in it til the baby arrives.

IdaBWells · 15/12/2018 08:23

I am a Brit on the West Coast of the US via 6 years years spent in Germany. I didn't pay that much attention to the Royals until I was out of the country (have not lived in the UK for 22 years). I was moving apartments with my husband in the US, we had only been married a year, when he told me he heard on the radio that Diana had been in a car accident in Paris. I remember going into a pizza place (it was about 10pm Pacific Standard Time) The guy behind the counter just said "It's true" . My husband set up the TV in our new apartment and I sat watching it for hours while he moved all the rest of our stuff alone! We had been married a year and were in our late 20s.. I am 50 now with 3 teens.

Hear hear!

thatone · 15/12/2018 09:14

Hi all, I am late forties, live in London with two teen dc.
Was obsessed with Diana when I was a child, just adored her. Still have loads of souvenir books etc. from the wedding and Australia tour.

Now, i am interested in the RF as far as her children and their families go. Also admire Leti's style.

These threads have been a great way to connect with others who see this interest as normal.
