Made sure my autocorrect didn't spoil that title...

As always, let's keep it light and avoid any spite!

This is Princess Margaret in Mustique showing one of her custom bathing suits.

They were specially made and had an actual corset interior! Apparently it was a remarkable image, considering fashion was getting looser and looser and there she was, emerging from the sea like a grande dame, her torso utterly immobile.

This is a fous picture of her with a young East End petty criminal lover. His t shirt says Cocaine, though she never partook I hasten to add! But there are stories of her trying on the shirt for a laugh.

Apparently he could balance several beer bottles on his member. It was a short affair, but I imagine a fun one!

Sofia is wearing Hugo boss. I just love the colour blocking.
However my lifestyle in rural France does not merit such smart clothes!

@ElspethFlashman
I’d heard of that lover; but Roddy Llewelyn was more famous.
Didn’t realise her swimwear was custom made. So it would have had actual boning?

Clionba · 15/12/2018 09:22

Love Margaret's bathing suit. It looks like armour. She'd be like a floral Britannia arising from the waves. Interesting social set on Mustique.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 09:26

Isn’t HM having her family lunch at BP this week?
You know where Princess Michael wore her (in)famous brooch.
That will be interesting seeing all the arrivals.
They’ll need a people carrier for the Cambridges and nanny.
I wonder if the kids eat with the adults?

AhoyDelBoy · 15/12/2018 09:28

OMG I need that skirt in my life Curly

Clionba · 15/12/2018 09:28

Family lunch at BP this week that should be relaxing and stress free Confused

Very much regretting getting rid of my knife pleated skirts from the 90s now Xmas Angry

beanaseireann · 15/12/2018 09:55

Frugalkitty
I thought the same as you. I would have thought they would go for a third.
Perhaps they did, perhaps they didn't, perhaps they couldn't.
When man ( woman) makes plans, the Gods smile.

Pupsiecola · 15/12/2018 09:56

I hadn't realised Margaret was quite so wild.

I love the Cambridges card. Charlotte is stunning. Louis looks such a smiley happy chap. No Lupo? Perhaps a body too far.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 10:21

Margaret was always naughty. Encouraged by her father and frustrated because she was undereducated.
She was having an affair whilst still a teenager with Peter Townsend who was married, with kids and in his 30s.
There is definitely a different set of rules for blood Princesses and the married in ones

ElspethFlashman · 15/12/2018 10:41

I'm fairness she was divorced from 78 and they were separated for most of the 70s. So she was single and couldn't be expected to stay celibate. She was an attractive woman and liked her spirits, her fags, and flattery. She had endured an emotionally abusive marriage and for all her faults (and she could be a real pain) she deserved a shot at contentment.

She was with Roddy L for years - 6 or 8. And he was lovely to her - sweet, respectful, grateful, fit, not too bright, and he fancied her rotten. It was one of the happiest times of her life. Its a shame it didn't last but he wanted to settle down and get married and so he did. He was in his early twenties when they got together and by 30 he just wanted different things, it was fair enough. But I'm glad she had that time. She bloody needed it.

I’m wary of stepping into Meghan bashing territory, but one of the US magazines said Meghan felt she had lost her Voice. I guess that is the irony of the position is she is incredibly high profile but everything she says has to be filtered. I think she will send out lots of non verbal messages through her clothes; charities and images. Diana did much the same thing. Remember the sitting alone outside the Taj Mahal shot.
I think the Sussex Christmas card is definitely a little bit defiant. Hopefully next year everything will be settled; new baby; new home.

Clionba · 15/12/2018 10:55

Yes, I read that Meghan feels that she has "lost her voice". However, she's an intelligent and resilient person. She'll work out how to use it.

Llareggub · 15/12/2018 11:02

I haven't posted much but I've been reading all the threads. This subject is my guilty pleasure and before these threads used to occasionally browse the bonkers royal forums I've found over the years. There's a particularly odd German one where they really come up with some insane theories about the Middletons, for example. This is much better!

I'm in Wales and in my early 40s. I'm also a Mitford fan and love reading their collected letters etc.

Moononthehill28 · 15/12/2018 11:03

The thing is, how would these US magazines know what she felt? She’s either deliberately leaking,or it’s all made up.

AhoyDelBoy · 15/12/2018 12:33

Yes Moon exactly! Here in Australia, a week or so ago, they claimed Diana had a secret daughter Xmas Confused

Hairydilemma · 15/12/2018 13:16

I'm 46, British, born a northerner, married to a southerner living in the SE. I love These threads, especially the photos of the children and sparkly bits

Year, are you me? Grin

Also 46 and ex-northerner lurking in the SE with SE hubby and three DC. And love a bit of sparkle.

I loved Diana as a child and was a bit obsessed with her fashion (posted a pic on a previous thread of a book I had about her clothes, which I devoured as a pre-teen and probably beyond).

I love the knowledge and history on these threads, as well as the info about the European royals whom I know little about otherwise.

Slightly in awe of Kate and her poise, immaculate-ness and general not-putting-a-foot wrongness - I’m a bit of a social bull in a china shop so I really admire her self-possession combined with what seems general down to earth niceness.

I love that Harry loves Meghan so much and like most of not all of what I’ve seen of her so far (in terms of actions, not just fashion, think the work she did with the Hubb and the warmth between her and the women there spoke volumes). Am hopeful she’ll settle into her role so she’s happy.

Clionba · 15/12/2018 13:39

I'm reading "Ma'am Darling" by Craig Brown, about Princess Margaret. I know others on here have read it. It's an amusing read, but my god, she could be awful!

7salmonswimming · 15/12/2018 13:40

I have to say William has always given me the impression of being arrogant and entitled.

William is literally entitled. He is the second most entitled person in the UK. He and his father are the human embodiment of entitledness, and they’ve been raised with this knowledge from birth.

AdaColeman · 15/12/2018 14:28

When William was serving in North Wales, he & Kate refused to live on the base, and instead decided to live in a nearby village.
Had they lived on the base, their security would have been relatively simple and the RAF would have carried much of the burden of the cost.

Instead, a much more complex security was required, and the cost was passed on to the local community, in an already impoverished and disadvantaged area.

So I agree that he is entitled and arrogant, and in this instance put his own desires above a more altruistic attitude towards the local people.

Tortycat · 15/12/2018 14:30

Also loving these threads. Live in uk, early 40s, young dc. Always been quite a royalist, probably influenced by my mum. Like the fashion, history and jewels, and DoC particularly. Cant quite stop awe and envy of her life! however like a few pp, these threads have stirred a bit of irritation at their sheer wealth and ease of life, multiple houses etc. Also feel there is some (to be fair hard to avoid) hypocrisy i.e. going on about humanitarian credentials whilst consuming thousands of times your fair share of world resources. i know i do too, and far better to. do charitable work than not, but still rankles somewhat...

MikeUniformMike · 15/12/2018 14:36

The Cambridge children are gorgeous. I think George looks like Granddad Mike, Charlotte like the Queen and Louis like Grandma Carole.
