Oh, high waist. I love a high waist. Although I’m still not really sure where my actual waist is. If it’s at the narrowest part of my trunk, it’s extremely high.

NotAnActualSheep · 02/01/2019 13:12

Oh soups - I really don't want to tot up the number of jumpers I have bought... I'm thinking close to 20 Blush and 4 cardigans which don't count, and a jumper dress. In fairness, I have worn them all (apart from the sweatshirt I got from Boden last week - and that's lined up for when I start work again tomorrow, as a cosy home-working uniform) and I do live in jumpers generally at home but really ???... I may also have just bought this one in the blue green following never and laska's recommendations of toast knitwear. I haven't tried them before, but I loooove the look of so many of the clothes on the website. Bum.

I do need to follow cherries and never's example of sending back stuff that i don't love. But i have trouble separating what I love from something that is different, and will work for a particular outfit/ occasion.... I did have a big clearcut on NYE too (mostly of DS's old clothes and toys..have rediscovered the size of our living room which had been smothered in boxes of random old toys) but also our wardrobe/ drawers. I was quite successful, but am really guilty of keeping things that will "do" for emergencies/ dirty work/ fieldwork (I don't do fieldwork anymore - but i think I'm trying to recover my lost youth). Maybe its the sartorial equivalent of prepping our store cupboards with beans, pasta and toilet roll in preparation for Brexit... but at this rate I'm set for about 7 years of financial meltdown.

ella - that pink cardigan is lovely - it really works well with that outfit. I'm looking forward to getting out those jeans again....I just find bare ankles on boyfriend jeans are too cold at the moment, and i can't work out non-ankle-baring footwear that works. The slipper socks are one option, I suppose, as long as I don't want to leave the house Grin.

cherries - did you ever get the plum wig on black friday? I'd love to see that one once you've prepped it.

Hope the pie n mash worked its magic gin!

Off for a bit of a walk now...think I need to follow soy's example and get out every day, as it does make me feel better. its freezing again, though..brrrr. Think this calls for the twiggy jumper to be broken out again....

Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 13:23

Same for me cherries right at bottom of rib cage which is why I like the high waist style trousers, I find them more comfortable and it removes the possibility of a muffin top.

ilovecherries · 02/01/2019 13:24

I did get it, not, but actually sold it straight on. A combination of the style and the colour completely overwhelmed me, I’d have needed a LOT of makeup to make it work. It was much pinker than I expected, from the pictures I’d expected a rich mahogany with a purple sheen - like a plum, really - but it was a bright pink-purple.

ilovecherries · 02/01/2019 13:25

That jumper is lovely, not. In fact I like the complete outfit the model is wearing.

Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 13:27

@NotAnActualSheep I'm not a massive fan of bare ankles in very cold weather but actually it's not too bad if you wear some nice warm merino wool trainer socks and make sure your feet are really warm.

OP posts:
Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 13:28

@NotAnActualSheep ooh yes that Toast jumper is lovely!

OP posts:
Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 13:29

And agree those cords are also really nice - they would go well with our patent brogues Cherries? Not that I'm enabling you or anything...

OP posts:
Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 13:30

Sadly way out of my price range at the moment.

Hi All
On the jumper front if we only count AW instead of summer sale jumpers I’ve bought and kept:
Stella star jumper (navy blue/silver star. I should add I also own 2 other Stellas from old AW seasons! My excuse is they’re all different colours Grin)
RocknRoll roll neck jumper
Paloma jumper navy blue
Sainsbury’s cheap jumper
M&S cheap v neck
So that’s 3 with Hush discounts and 2 so cheap they don’t even count.

HOWEVER if I then go on to count the summer sale jumpers it’s not such a virtuous picture:
2 Hush cashmere from BA sale
2 cotton jumpers from Hush sale
2 LS linen jumpers which luckily have not developed holes like melen

Above doesn’t include jeans, tops, t shirts, shirts, coats, scarves or shoes or even the odd RocknRoll clutch bag 🤨

SoyYo · 02/01/2019 13:46

Mmm I’ve just realised I’m wearing the SS cotton rose jumper today and I also bought the SS reversible Stella jumper so tbh I don’t even remember how many things I’ve bought and I’d rather continue to live in denial Confused

Nice pattern on the Toast jumper @not 😍

I’ve the same high waist as you @ella and @cherries but If I wear mum jeans I immediately go back to the 80’s (you’re too young to remember ella) and since my hair is still virtually the same (can’t be helped when you’re a curly girl) I fear if on top I wear mum jeans I’ll look like a complete throwback Hmm

Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 13:58

Ha ha I do remember the 80's well! I was about 10 when I had a pair of Mom jeans back then in stone wash denim 😁 and a bit later in my teens I had a perm... I have a photo somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out. T'was very cringeworthy.. my sister and I wanted to look like Madonna and I remember being over the moon when my mum finally gave it and let me get a pair of pixie boots, remember those?
The only era I have no desire to repeat fashion wise is the mid 90's when the spice girls were popular. It was all tracksuits, medallions, cargo pants and wedge/platform trainers, I know it's all having a comeback now but I will not succumb!

OP posts:
SoyYo · 02/01/2019 14:01

Oh yes I also bought a simple thin v neck navy blue Hush jumper during the mid season AW sale... so that’s 4 Hush jumpers in as many months.
I agree it’s time to stop but I do like the look of this one and would be tempted to try if vastly reduced tomorrow

And this shirt

I honestly don’t need more stars in my life so talk me out of it?Wink

dontcallmelen · 02/01/2019 14:02

Boden parcel turned up a day early, keeping the crop cardis.
The cashmere jumper not sure, will try on again in a while the arms are bit long.
Tweed blazers going back, both to long & flare out a bit to much.
The navy ponte blazer is lovely, fits much better than the tweed ones going to try on again later the decide if a keeper, will hotfoot to post office tomorrow morning before I change my mind.

SoyYo · 02/01/2019 14:06

LOL @ella! Pixie boots! How could I ever forget Grin I had a pair.
I’m so old I even remember skinny jeans first time round never mind Mum jeans.
On the curly hair front mine was really long then and I used to get stopped by people to ask me where I had it permed, now it’s only just below shoulder length but it’s still so curly I’ve never been tempted to straighten it as that would be ridiculous high maintenance and would completely fry it.
I also remember wearing leather jeans in the early to mid 80’s even when I wasn’t going on the bike so nothings changed really Grin

SoyYo · 02/01/2019 14:09

Ooh @melen shame about the tweed blazers but glad you have some winners in the Boden parcel.
Be Ruthless! I’m not enabling anymore having just taken stock briefly of how much I’ve spent on clothes...we can all change to what I’m wearing today to keep us interested plus I can always waffle about all kind of non fashion related topics to keep the thread moving Wink

dontcallmelen · 02/01/2019 14:14

Oh lord, when I look at some of the photos I looked a fright I had stone washed skinny’s & a stone washed denim dress, a rarah skirt, does anyone remember the dresses that had a blouson bit on top & a really tight skirt bit had loads of those which I wore with a really baggy leather jacket, I had really long hair with sort of Farah Fawcett flicks😂

dontcallmelen · 02/01/2019 14:18

Soy yes a shame they are really nice, but just don’t look right.
Lol I can waffle for ever & what I’m wearing today is always interesting.
Another thing I going to make an effort with, is to actually wear stuff that I have bought, rather than sticking to older stuff I was a bit wtf when I found the MV jumpers still with labels on & sat in the drawer for over a year, just really wasteful.

SoyYo · 02/01/2019 14:45

@melen I wore my everyday bike leather jacket not too dissimilar from the biker leather fashion jackets that are on sale everywhere nowadays, except that mine was really heavy duty thick leather and it took years to break it in (I still have it btw for sentimental reasons as it’s equivalent to a size 6/8 nowadays so sadly can’t wear it anymore)
I had a rara skirt from Monsoon! Only one mind Wink I think I wore it once and decided it didn’t fit my RocknRoll image Grin (so what’s new?)
If you think about it all those Hush Tara dresses are not too different from the 80’s dresses you describe above Hmm
When I wasn’t in full biker mode I would wear Laura Ashley! It was very expensive then and I remember the pie crust collars. I had a few of those dresses.
And I liked Benetton ice cream coloured jeans. And Monsoon which was also very ethnic and £££ then before it became mainstream.
I also had a penchant for Indian long skirts from the market paired with Bolivian jumpers and cheesecloth shirts 😂😂😂 (student gear)

Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 14:46

We can do a wardrobe challenge to wear something different everyday that we haven't worn for ages.

OP posts:
SoyYo · 02/01/2019 14:48

I mean I really could only treat myself over a year to one or two L.Ashley or Monsoon dresses then...or a couple of things from Benetton tops.
Most of the time it was Indian stall market findings, or Oxfam grandad shirts with jeans (remember those? They were proper 40’s vintage finds)

NotAnActualSheep · 02/01/2019 14:53

Oh, that's a shame about the pink hair cherries, but I know what you mean about it feeling too much. (My pink streaks have never really disappeared, but they are now very faded and subtle and I do like them still going to get them done properly by my hairdresser next time! but I think I would feel the same about a really bright all over colour that was never going to fade).

I love the toast green cords too, but they are £££ and I do have some olive green wide trousers that could work and some navy velvet straight ones (though still need to sort out the ankle thing...though will look at woolly trainer socks...good call Ella!).

Stupid question alert So, when people talk of being high waisted, is that the same as being short bodied? I've got the same thing of having the smallest part of my body just under my ribs, and sometimes find the waists of dresses are too low, so have to "pouff up" the top part so the waist sits in the right place, which means the rest can be a bit short. Is that because they are for someone lower-waisted / longer bodied? Or is short/ long body more to do with the ratio of leg to body length? I'm sure it's very standard terminology, but I'm a bit dim when it comes to things like that! (I love a high wasted Jean and I don't care if I look like an 80s throwback. Gap are good).

soy everyone needs some stars!! That blouse is lovely...how haven't I noticed that??. The jumper looks like the pale blue/ sage green ones from S/S which were reduced ( and which I have both of... Blush ) so you should be lucky...

len I'm a total convert to boden cropped cardis...they are brilliant! And that ponte blazer sounds good.

Yy to "shopping my wardrobe"... Maybe it should be a resolution to try to wear everything in it (seasonally and occasionally appropriate...or maybe not...) over January, rather than just stick with the same few favourites, that happen to stay close at hand...

SoyYo · 02/01/2019 14:54

Okay @ella let’s try it. Even if not fully old gear at least one item which is over a year old and still merits a space in our wardrobe.
Today I don’t qualify as I’m home wearing Zara camo biker jeans with Rose jumper and Uniqlo heatech top...the Rose jumper doesn’t clash with the camo jeans as it’s very dark pattern. I love the camo biker jeans so finding any excuse to wear atm.

NotAnActualSheep · 02/01/2019 14:55

Haha! Cross posted with Ella re wearing something different every day!!
