I did a massive wardrobe clearout before Christmas, both clothes and beauty. It feels good to be able to see things on the shelves/hanging in the wardrobe now.

Then I attacked the kitchen cupboards with a vengeance, along with the utility room. I now have a shelf for non-wine alcohol (we never had spirits other than gin but have accumulated a few bottles - aperol, port etc) and found tow gorgeous glasses that used to be for red wine but are in fact perfect for a not-massive G&T!

I have two cupboards in the hall that I plan to go through this week, mostly full of the children's sports stuff, old CDs, backpacks etc. Then I will go to the charity shop with a full car (already went to the recycling bank yesterday). Love me a good spring clean, any time of the year.

I am not sure where I stand clothes-wise. Apart from the Domino shirt dress which is still en-route, I have not bought clothes in the sales, just skincare. My children gave me the spanx leather-look leggings for Christmas which is great, and when I was in Dunnes yesterday I saw lots of 'winter into spring' items that look lovely. So I will hang tight for now, avoid the sales rails and reassess my wardrobe in a few weeks.

GinandGingerBeer · 01/01/2019 18:28

Happy new year from a very hungover gin&gingerbeer Although it was gin and tonic and I drank far too many and I'm still in my pjs. BlushEnvyDH is making pie & mash so hoping to feel better after that as I've been grazing on crap all day.
Definitely starting 5:2 this week as it's worked well in the past.
You sound like you've been busy @miffy2, want to come and do mine?Grin
No purchases here but I might create a wishlist and see if any of it goes in the sale.
I've got so many clothes I really need a sort out, I can't even find my pale grey wide jersey top, god knows where it is!

SoyYo · 01/01/2019 18:37

Happy shiny new 2019!
Really lovely to read how you all spent it.
@laska your fish pie sounds 😋 delish
@not wow! Edinburgh fireworks and Hogmanay! Amazing!
@never sounds like you had a brill eve too.

Ours was quiet but really lovely Just DH and I 🍾🥂

I’m so impressed with all your NY resolutions! I’m back at Pilates tomorrow and will try and eat sensibly till the weather improves, but not sure I can handle a strict diet in the winter and dry January doesn’t appeal much either...On average I drink 4/5 glasses of wine a week (not all at once) and don’t feel like I have overindulged on the alcohol front. Am I bad? DH is not a drinker so usually a bottle lasts me around a week/9 days...It’s just lovely some evenings to have a glass of Malbec and a pleasure when the weather is so miserable.
I will however have a wardrobe sort through, I do have way too much! Blush
Love the pink cardigan on you ella
I do feel physically tons better for having been out in the fresh air by the sea, today it was bitter in the wind so we didn’t do a long beach walk but still managed an hour outdoors. Got back to the flat and then popped out to see the pier fireworks at 5pm. Amazing and a great way to round off New Year’s Day. Flat is clean and we’re ready to head home (1 1/2 hour drive) but holding off due to the fireworks traffic till 7pm.
I feel so much better for all the fresh air though even with my hate of cold weather it’s made me determined to do a brisk daily walk whatever it’s like outside...
I’m not sure I want to avoid the Hush sale altogether and there’s a couple of things I’d like to try if reduced. I’ll report back!

Finally here’s a professional pic of the Cromer fireworks so you get an idea of how great they are.
A great start to 2019! Back to work tomorrow but not travelling till next week so enough time to ease myself back into it.
Have a lovely evening!

A very Meryl-y Christmas to all.. Hush Christmas continued
SoyYo · 01/01/2019 18:45

@Gin you’re living up to your name Grin I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s not very virtuous with NY resolutions...I do pilates every week anyway so that doesn’t count Wink
I guess a brisk daily walk in the crap winter weather is all I can commit to.
Like you I have my eye on a couple of things that would be interesting to try if reduced further than the current 20% in the sale, if not I’m not super fussed either.
Hope your DH cooking restores you this eve 👍

GinandGingerBeer · 01/01/2019 19:19

Maybe I should do a NY NC to Spinach&CarrotSmoothie @SoyYo Grin

dontcallmelen · 01/01/2019 19:52

Ella lovely cardi
Soy that sounds like a really lovely way to celebrate new year, I’m doing anything on the alcohol front, as I rarely drink so a dry January wouldn’t really feel a sacrifice, I’m going to try & eat a bit healthier I don’t have much of an appetite, but when I do have days where I eat a reasonable amount a lot of it consists of cheese or bread.
I had a bit of a clear out yesterday, Dh took two big bags to the charity shop & tomorrow going to clean the ovens & do a bit more clearing out of cupboards.
Really really need to rein in the spending, I need to accept I don’t have a wage anymore & my income is vastly reduced, time has finally come for me to try & get a bit sensible.

dontcallmelen · 01/01/2019 19:55

Gin hope the pie n mash works & you feel better.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/01/2019 22:15

Had in an email:

A reminder that our main January sale starts on Thursday…and we’ll be bringing out a new pre-spring collection in a couple of weeks.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/01/2019 22:16

Was hoping the sale might be tomorrow. Just a quick post and haven't read through but will later. Off to watch a movie!

EachandEveryone · 02/01/2019 10:38

I’m working Thursday. I wonder what time?

Laska2Meryls · 02/01/2019 10:52

I think sales usually go live at 0.01am . So if you are up late tonight each Wink

Laska2Meryls · 02/01/2019 10:53

Has anyone got a sale wishlist?

neveradullmoment99 · 02/01/2019 11:02

I would have liked a pair of skinny jeans. The blue have sold out though. May hold out to see the spring offerings. I think the reductions may be a bit dissapointing. What about you@laska ?

Laska2Meryls · 02/01/2019 11:46

Not got any wants from this last season really. Possibly Tiger scarf ( if it's in ,I haven't looked) .. I'm hoping that thier may be some good bargains from previous seasons. I'd like another summer Brigitte jumper to replace one I got a hole in. They had some in the BA sale so maybe they could have some left .. but who knows? I'm still waiting for my replacement CC to arrive !!

ilovecherries · 02/01/2019 11:47

I’m halo is so well polished it’s blinding me. Cashmere tunic AND Jada tunic both going back. Tunics were my go-to when I was fat, so I keep returning to them, but I’ve decided they don’t actually do me any favours. They just hang from my humongous chest. Fifi bag is also going back. Have decided that highly structured camera bag style also doesnt suit me. Pity as it’s nearly impossible to find a black bag with silver hardware. Fly boots also being returned. They are ok, but I’ve decided ok has no place in my wardrobe. I’m not desperate for boots to keep my feet warm and dry, and they don’t meet the ‘love it’ criteria. So I think that’s nearly £500 being returned.

Re the sale, I’m just a bit tired of looking at the same stuff now. I might buy practical things like the Winona trousers simply as I wear them a lot but there isn’t much else really. Cashmere all seems to be sold out.

dontcallmelen · 02/01/2019 12:10

I am determined to glue back my😇 & wear it again, so definitely not buying anything. I found three mint velvet jumpers with the labels still on when I had a sort out the other day which goes to show I didn’t need them, my boden parcel should be here tomorrow & yy Cherries example if I really don’t love any of it, it’s going back.

twosoups1972 · 02/01/2019 12:13

Happy new year everyone Smile Hope you all had a lovely NYE and here's to a great 2019.

ella nice cardi, I really like the colour. I am also aiming to sort out my wardrobe in the next day or so. It's difficult to decide what to keep. I keep coming across things I haven't worn much/haven't worn for ages but then think it's quite nice and I should keep it just in case! I need to be more ruthless!

ilovecherries · 02/01/2019 12:20

Boden jeans have arrived, also being returned. I’m on a roll.

twosoups1972 · 02/01/2019 12:25

You are all being good! I'm not going to be the only one shopping in the Hush sale tomorrow am I??

I have tried a hell of a lot this season but I've sent most of it back. But I've kept quite a few jumpers. Can I do a quick jumper survey? How many jumpers has everyone bought this A/W? I counted 6 Blush

ilovecherries · 02/01/2019 12:48

Hm. Well
Hush boyfriend cashmere x 1
Brand Alley lightweight Hush cashmere x 2
Other Stories boyfriend cashmere x1
M&S cashmere crew necks x2
M&S cotton crew neck x1
Other Stories oversized cowl necks x 2
Tu oversized cowl neck x1
H&M fuzzy crew neck x1
Boden Muriel x1 (on the way, may not keep)

Bloody hell, that’s a bit embarrassing, isn’t it. In my defence, I was starting pretty much at ground zero, the only thing that still fit me from last winter was the Nana jumper, I think, as I bought it in XS and a yellow crew neck. I’m hoping all the linen ones I bought last summer will do me fine this summer and I won’t need any more, and everything I bought this winter will also see me through next winter.

Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 12:51

Well I have no will power as I just popped into my local Outfit to pick up a pair of jeans I ordered for DS and found that the jeans In TopShop are all 40% off today so I bought a pair of the raw hem Mom jeans for nearly half price. Bargain. Must Stop Spending.....

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 02/01/2019 12:55

The cashmere I hope will last me many years. All the plus size cashmere I had was at least 8-10 years old, probably more and I sold it on ebay for about 50% of it original price. I’m not hard on clothes though, and I do look after them.

ilovecherries · 02/01/2019 12:56

What actually are mom jeans, Ella? I’m always intrigued, because they sound as if they should be comfy!

dontcallmelen · 02/01/2019 13:02

Hmm 1 mint velvet hoody
Navy star jumper & navy cardi from Debenhams
L/s raw edge from hush x 2, which have worn really badly & have holes in.
White stuff black cardi
Boden cashmere cardi, cashmere jumper, cotton & merino jumpers x 3
& 1 cardi, waiting delivery on 2 crop cardis & cashmere jumper.
A lot when it’s actually written down😳

Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 13:05

Mom jeans are kind of like boyfriend jeans but with a little more structure and a high wait. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but they are great during the summer to wear with trainers and sandals.
