Currently obsessed(!) with CK Obsession! It's an oldie but a goodie! Anyone else revisiting older perfumes?

OP posts:

Shalimar by Guerlain
Joy by Jean Patou
Goya by Aqua Manda

RavenLG · 07/11/2018 22:25

I do remember also having a bottle of "Sunflowers" when j was a kid and used to spray it on my Barbies in farrrr too large quantities and would stink my room out... I still get flashbacks now Grin

emmeline7725 · 07/11/2018 22:26

I'm wearing Cerrutti 1881 now. My friend sniffed me and asked why I remindedher of 1998!

I miss Ma Griffe. My aunty used to wear it.

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 08/11/2018 00:23

I took a little notion for older perfumes again recently.
Have been wearing; cerutti 1881, Nina Ricci premier jour, Lancôme miracle and issey miyake l’eau de issey

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/11/2018 00:27

Ysatis. I think it fell out of favour a bit, but I'm not quite sure why! I like it — floral at first sniff, but lots of depth under that.

MrsCatE · 08/11/2018 00:36

Madam Rochas. No longer do perfume, just eau de toilette and it's not the same at all - nasty old powdery compact smell. Poor DH tracked down and there is a teeny trace / reminiscence but not the same. Sad

Rachelover40 · 08/11/2018 00:40

CK Obsession is lovely and not that old.

My idea of 'old' perfume is Charlie & Tweed, neither of which I ever used but remember others doing so.

When I was younger, Opium and Anais Anais were popular.

Zoflorabore · 08/11/2018 05:59

I bought my all time favourite perfume last week that I first got in 1996!

Poeme by Lancôme.
It came out in 1995 and was marketed as attracting people to you! 17year old me liked the sound of that Grin

I still get strangers asking me what I'm wearing so it must sort of work...
Bloody love it and £30 a bottle for the Eau de parfum is pretty good.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 08/11/2018 10:42

Polkadots- Ysatis has been reformulated out of all recognition- I have an old bottle from the late 80s and it's spicy and magnificent- the new (purple packaging) reform is a travesty.

I also snagged a bottle of old Obsession and again, no comparison to the over sweet reformulation- when I smelled the reform a couple of years ago, I thought it was me that had changed, then went to ebay and got a bottle of the old stuff. It was my signature in the late 80s and a real groundbreaker and gamechanger.

OHolyNightOwl · 08/11/2018 12:35

I miss Armani White and D&G By. Both gorgeous, but discontinued.

I used to wear Bodyshop White Musk perfume oil in my youth and got SO many compliments on it. Tried it again last year and it smells nothing like it used to. Either I changed or it did.

MessyBun247 · 08/11/2018 12:39

OMG the Kangol one! So glad someone else remembers it Smile it came in a little set of 5, can’t remember what the other were.

I also loved one I used to buy in Boots as a teen. Tall glass bottle with a green exclamation mark on it. It was amazing.

obviouslymarvellous · 08/11/2018 13:27

Aromatics too by Clinique - brings back many memories. The blueberry one at body shop also reminds me of school!

GraceMarks · 08/11/2018 13:42

There was a dirt-cheap one called Exclamation back when I was about 12 (in a bottle styled like an exclamation mark, obvs) which I loved. Pretty sure they don't make it any more but smells can be remarkably evocative and it would take me straight back to the early 90s if it was still around. My mum always used to wear Opium, so that has much the same effect.

If we're talking defunct perfumes that I wish would come back, it would be Kingdom by Alexander McQueen.

MessyBun247 · 08/11/2018 13:57

@Gracemarks I think we are talking about the same one! Ahh it was lovely. I did a quick Google and it was by Coty and you can buy it online, the bottle looks different though.

jennymac · 08/11/2018 14:11

I've been thinking recently about getting a bottle of Ralph Lauren Safari. I had a miniature bottle of it about 20 years ago (part of a gift set) and I loved it. Haven't smelt it since then though so might not like it anymore but would love to try it again.

jennymac · 08/11/2018 14:12

Gracemarks - I had a bottle of Exclamation also and loved it! Might try to get a bottle for my 12 year old dd.

GraceMarks · 08/11/2018 14:12

@MessyBun247 I bet it smells like arse though... I loved sweet smells back then and used to be obsessed with Angel by Thierry Muegler, but now it makes me feel vaguely sick!

Nodney · 08/11/2018 14:24

I loves Wings - think it was by Georgio Beverley Hills.

goodnessgrace · 08/11/2018 14:57

Ahhhhh Dior addict, pack rabanne ultraviolet (both still widely available) remind me so much of my younger days!

Also loved cerruti 1881 and benneton had a perfume (maybe called colours?) that I would LOVE to sniff again.

Oh! And Tocade! My all time fave !

Niminy · 08/11/2018 15:05

I wore Estee Lauder White Linen all through the 80s. I know it's a classic but blimey! I couldn't wear it now.

I used to love Floris Carnation which is long gone - you can't use the ingredients that made it so spicily wonderful then.

VintageFur · 08/11/2018 15:16

ohholy I was going to treat myself to a bottle of By... Then saw the eBay prices! Shock

I'm sure I saw exclamation in superdrug not long ago. Although tbf I don't wear my glasses as frequently as I ought.

youarenotkiddingme · 08/11/2018 15:56

I still love the diesel red.

Nettletheelf · 08/11/2018 16:01

Cabotine, Fidji and Anais Anais are bloody lovely. Yay for (bargain) old style perfumes!

rememberatime · 08/11/2018 16:14

Estee Lauder Beautiful. Worn it for 25 years and I still another bottle every christmas.

Jocasta2018 · 08/11/2018 16:20

L’air du temps - my mother always used to wear it. Nothing else comes close!
