Good morning all - I'm just popping in to say I've been lurking on here for ages and absolutely love these threads. I love history and all the stuff about succession and the royal family, it's fascinating, and there are so many knowledgeable posters on here!

My DH is from NZ and we lived there for a while, so I'm really looking forward to seeing H&M over there. They're going to get a great reception no doubt. The Royals are pretty popular there IME - I know my SILs made scrapbooks of Diana and Fergie back in the 80s!

I'm just looking into some of the books that were recommended earlier in the thread. And we're off to the Tower of London next week so I can't wait to see the crown jewels - I have seen them before but it was ages ago.

I probably won't have much to add to the threads but I love reading all your comments.

Paradyning · 27/10/2018 07:56

Her shoes don't have some weird hit. Just my eyes. The oracle that is Mad about Meghan says it's these shoes

I love them!

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2018 07:57

The PM of NZ is about Meghan's age and a new mum, so no doubt she'll be able to offer some advice on coping with a baby while being in the public eye!

We Australians do have a somewhat casual approach to some formal occasions however some of us do dress more formally than others. I am always being asked if I am going out when I am just popping to the shops Grin. Weddings drive me nuts though. I have been to some where the dress code was formal and people turned up in jeans. I wanted people to frock up for mine and for the women to wear hats and everyone but one friend refused.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2018 08:02

No, I thought that too @Paradyning but I think it's just the reflection off the floor.

@Paradyning

Thanks for the link to the shoes. Gorgeous shape but at $400 out of my price range!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/10/2018 08:07

There was a thread a while back (pre H&M wedding) and we were discussing guest outfits, given there were so many Americans.
Apparently the pastels and especially hats is a British thing

Paradyning · 27/10/2018 08:12

Mine too sadly Curly.

Cornwall73 · 27/10/2018 08:27

Maybe they have widened the waist band on the jeans? It’s not something she can get a larger size in. Love the look though.

In terms of Diana she literally ‘grew up’ in the public eye, not something that would happen now thank goodness.

Even if she didn’t have a real job at least Kate got to go to uni and have a circle of friends and develop interests. Diana never had the opportunity to do that.

Cornwall73 · 27/10/2018 08:29

Kate was also lucky to have a stable family and supportive brothers and sisters which we shouldn’t underestimate. Diana lacked that, her family was messed up too.

CubanHeels · 27/10/2018 08:39

I’m a rabid republican who clicked on the thread by mistake when half asleep, but can I just say that every time I read ‘PoW’, I automatically think ‘prisoner of war’, which makes Curly’s post above very different...

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2018 08:43

@Paradyning Mad About Meghan is my go-to blog for photos and links. I think the author (who Aldo runs HRH Duchess Kate) is US-based, so her speediness impresses me. She must stay up til all hours to update it as she sometimes has photos of Meghan at events before the likes of even the Mail update their site!

I know Charles was older but I also think he was craving love & to be someone’s number one. His parents went on a 6 month tour when he was young, he was bullied at school & his dad was stiff upper lip sort whereas Charles was more sensitive.

Two very unsuited people - both craving the same thing, to be looked after.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2018 08:51

Yeah, there's a horrible story about the DoE making Charles cry before Mountbatten's funeral so he wouldn't do it at the event.

Morning all!

I think Meghan has used the old elastic band trick on her jeans!

Wow, we are all minor royals on this thread! My Dbro was at school with one of the nephews of the Duchess of Kent - does that count! And I once met Prince Andrew at a High Commission do, so actually I'm 2 steps 👸

I have finally got round to watching Queen of the World and I was shocked to see a clip of Philip, Anne and Charles talking to some Canadians - Charles must have been in his early 20s and Anne's voice over explained that they learnt to talk to the crowds on the job and very quickly. Charles must have said something because Philip gives him a massive shove with his left elbow right into Charles. Charles' face crumpled like he wants to cry, but he keeps the smile on his face all the time. Poor sod. But I agree, a gaslighting autobiography is not the best thing to happen just as we're starting to like him. And what a stupid thing to say - calling off the wedding would be cataclysmic? What, more cataclysmic than marrying a woman he didn't love, playing around with a long term mistress and then watching his boys suddenly lose their mother? Here's a Royal ODFOD.

Back to clothes. Meghan is wearing heels again in a sports hall. Will someone get the girl some Supergas 👟?

Clionba · 27/10/2018 09:41

I'm going to say it again, how the heck do these women wear heels all the time?
They have super human feet and ankles, I'm convinced. Those are stretchy maternity jeggings. No rubber bands for our Megs Wink.
I am the only person on here with zero royal connections... Sad

VanillaSugary · 27/10/2018 10:00

You have the insight and the gossip @Clionba and that is MUCH more useful

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/10/2018 10:10

Waaaaay back in the 80s, I lived in high heels and stilettos, including a two mile walk to and from work. On a hill. On cobbles.

It can be done. Although I never did it pregnant.

owlshooting · 27/10/2018 10:15

I love the outfit with the red top and black trousers! For me, one of the best looks on the whole tour, as well as the bird dress. She suddenly looks much happier and more relaxed. Maybe because this punishing tour is nearing its end!

There is some new book coming out about PC in which he apparently said to friends he wanted to pull out of the wedding as he realised that he and Diana had nothing in common, but couldn't face the music if he did. So sad, as they were both getting seriously cold feet beforehand, and if they'd just sat down together and said 'this is not a good idea', how differently things might have turned out.

owlshooting · 27/10/2018 10:18

Agree IPromise - Charles needed an uncomplicated mother figure who would indulge him and tell him how wonderful he is all the time. Someone non threatening, jolly and fun. Diana was a damaged, needy and insecure young girl really who had no life experience. If she'd been supported and eased into the role gradually it might have worked . But the combination of the fact that Charles was much older, a completely different person, and she was thrown into Royal life with no preparation or support spelt doom from the start.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2018 10:21

The front page of today's DM is about how Charles wanted to call the wedding off. Bit too little, too nearly 40 years too late mate!

God, nearly 40 years since their wedding, can you believe it???

OP posts:
Cornwall73 · 27/10/2018 10:33

Why do this now? What is he achieving? Everyone knows it was a wrong match and a marriage that didn’t work out. Then Diana’s life ended tragically, eventually the boys and him rebuilt their lives. Is he trying to gain some public sympathy before he becomes king?

Clionba · 27/10/2018 10:39

@VanillaSugary - thank you ☺!
I just don't move in those circles. Working class lass made good!

AhoyDelBoy · 27/10/2018 10:46

Reading that article has really made me dislike PC. Surely this kind of stuff about the pair has been out of the press for years? So why reignite interest now. Wouldn’t it be incredibly hurtyto his boys to hear/read this kind of thing? I guess I’m their world they don’t read the DM though.

AhoyDelBoy · 27/10/2018 10:48

hurtful too his boys
I guess in their world
🤦🏼‍♀️
